I fear the ANC will drag the DA down with it, as the ANC won't give DA enough power to actually implement the required changes, but people will blame DA for ANC failures. However, it is the only option to prevent immediate economic collapse. If DA agrees to a coalition with the ANC, it would be a shining example of putting country ahead of party. One of the most patriotic moves a political party has made in a long time. And as much as I loathe the ANC, I must give credit. Most liberation movements have never given up power peacefully. The ANC seems to be accepting the results (unlike Zuma), and accepting the partial loss of power
How is the coalition going to happen because Zuma is still the member of ANC we just Ramaphosa and his whites out of ANC we have plenty people from within who will push for emergency elections within ANC
Agreed, seems ANC is dignified in their defeat. What concerns me is the sabotage that may occur in coalition run municipalities. One party trying to make the other look bad for party improvement in the next election
mr john steenhuisen i am a black south african and frankly speaking i fully support your presentation it makes great sense to me this coalition government it is going to be very important ,the problem with anc leader mr cyril he is very greedy and think for himself
Where was this guy 32 years ago and who were his friends? Are his friends of over 31 years old still alive? How does this make sense to you? They stole you land your resources and hoarded it up to this date. This is why the economic is not growing and there is electric fence around their houses. They are your problem not Julius Melama.
John the "head boy' is right, huh? Well politics makes strange bed fellows but we all know John been telling us Cyril reads from DA script. The goal posts keep shifting, from voting ANC out to 'Dooms-day coalition', so what happened to the listening to the voice of the people? Who has given you mandate to rescue SA from Dooms day?
I see it the same way here. Think of a simple marriage of two people, very rarely is a loving couple 100 % the same in their thinking. The ANC and the DA should put their differences aside and work together for a better South Africa.
NO IT WILL NOT, it will cause a disaster and massive instability. DA needs to stay as official opposition and should rather do a confidence & supply agreement with the ANC, thereby enabling the forming of a Government by the ANC (there are currently at least 17 successful counties world wide, with the same government confidence & supply arrangement) If the DA goes into full coalition with the ANC it will be a disaster, because then MK & EFF become the official opposition, which could steer SA in the wrong direction
Machipi! There is new work order and the West is loosing it, DA is the West and SA is last foot they have in Africa, hence even will to support cape independence, as a native Safrican would never vote whites
He's a opportunist , all the DA does is to ride on the gravy train. They've achieved ZERO! Did zero to stop crime candidates corruption, its Helen suzmans old party.puppets of the industrialist king rats!! south africa is on the brink of anarchy, war. Politicians just talk talk talk and make empty promises!! The people are tired of politicians and their lies and empty promises!!! You are a circus da!!!!
You forget English isn’t a mother tongue of any black person in South Africa if steenhuisen was speaking Zulu and we said the same thing y’all would be saying at least he’s trying have the same energy for our black leaders you don’t have to respect them I don’t either but some things aren’t hard to understand
When was South Africa great during the times of Netherlands and England settlers? The only coalition will be between ANC-MK you can continue to dream. DA want to work with ANC to prevent MK, EFF policies of Nationalization of mines and farms. Stop being biased deep down you know how evil Oppenheimers are.
It's tough for people who can see how to fix our problems to have to sit on the sidelines and watch a bunch of greedy corrupt selfish people have the power and just waste it on enriching themselves on a daily basis. Must be exceptionally frustrating.
What happened to being a watch dog? Is policing ANC, MK and EFF not a suitable job for John? Why now does he want to sit in executive chair without a vote to get him there? All politicians are blood suckers
Zuma is NOT interested in saving the country, he is only interested in saving himself going to jail and get more money into his bank account, stealing from people like YOU and your family. South Africa was growing nicely until Zuma became president, then Eskom was looted, Transnet, SAL and Denel. What you do not realise is that with all the money he and the Guptas stole, millions of jobs were lost. Jobs that would have fed millions of people. I cannot understand how you cannot look around you and see South Africa is going down.
ANC wont need EFF to form a Coalition with Mk. An ANC, MK Coalition would have more than 50 percent on its own. Anc and EFF however would need another smaller party to form a proper coalition. It is more likely that ANC will want as few parties as possible in their government so EFF probably wont be a threat. Zuma said he wouldnt form a coalition with Ramaphosas Anc so DA would be the only realistic option left. Unless Ramaphosa gives up his power
With Helen Zille on negotiation team, forget. We don't want anything to do with her, because of her stance or statements or attitudes towards many issues.
@@siviwefukutwa7697 People are just waiting for Ramadollar to make the biggest political mistake of his career by giving more than 6 million ANC votes to the DA😂😂😂 People have vowed to make a mass exodus from that type of ANC because they realise that coalition will serve the interest of the minority here in SA.
Thanks so much for the maturity and humility by which the parties negotiated and for not deviating from respecting every single person in South Africa. Therein lies the success!
There will be a soft da anc cooperation agreement not a formal hard coalition. The da is not so short sighted as to commit political suicide. The anc alone will be left to face the consequences of any bad decisions or policies going forward.
The MPC was a great idea. Unfortunately, i think the Mk was formed to win voters who were not going to support anc any longer. Now, through a coalition, the anc will still keep majority rule with double the theft and complete darkness. Then, the majority will likely resort to theft and riots again to put food on the table. If ANC truly wants to make SA better, they will negotiate with DA, but that would mean reducing the gravy train.
Wishing the DA success in rescuing South Africa from itself. Those who voted MK, EFF and ANC simply don’t know what bad decisions they have made. This is not intended as a demeaning comment, but if voters realised the damage that these parties do, many more would make different choices.
I think we need to respect people, we are in a democratic country and they are allowed to vote for whoever they resonate with, you and I might vote for DA but that does not means everyone else need to follow. Let's refrain from belittling those who might have chosen a different political party, they have reasons why they opted for such.
@@glennborrageiro6257 well unfortunately that's the point I was trying to run away from, no doubt everyone is intelligent, voting for DA does not mean one is intelligent. We face different challenge on daily basis, we have different historical backgrounds and those difference shape our view in terms of politics, unfortunately The DA has not been attractive to most people, mainly in how they handle certain matters. It will take time definitely but for now let us appreciate our unity in diversity and political differences. I can't tell an old Black grandma or grandpa to vote for DA, same as I can't tell an old White Afrikaner grandma or grandpa who lived through a period of Afrikaner nationalism that voting for FF+ is anti-progressi. They have totally different historical background and that shapes how they vote. I was born in the 90s and I know the direction I want SA to take and I will vote for a party that resonates with views or policies that will be beneficial for my outlook. That statement was the one I was trying to avoid, as it is offensive and most people won't like. Democracy is a process, and like all processes they take time. Do I vote for the DA, yes do I agree with all their approaches, no. I find them a bit inconsistent in some cases and a bit inconsiderate when it comes to how they transform historically non - white neighborhoods. But knowing the direction I want for my the future of SA, I will vote for them, that's not to say they are the only party capable of getting us there.
@@glennborrageiro6257 and that comment and mentality is by far the reason why DA isn't making any significant progress as the leading opposition party even when the ruling party is in a mess. Self reflection is important after receiving election results. I like the DA as a multi racial party but I always get disappointed by ignorant comments like this.
I don't think DA understands what is going to happen to them in the next election because of the decisions there are going to make let's not forget that the only reason ANC didn't reach the high number is because of the MK party and the fact that DA wants to work with ANC believe me more DA voters are going to move to MK party that is Fact I don't have a problem with DA but I think people of SA don't want the ANC to lead the country anymore so how do you work with the party like that? DA won't change the ANC corruption unless they are both on the page this is going to be a mess
No, that is the least of our worries now. Looting the key industrial points in the country like Eskom and Transnet and hollowing out the governing structures like the SAPD, IPID, attacking the courts and the judicial system, that is the real problems. You can fix service delivery in a few months, but rebuilding destroyed governing systems takes years if not decades.
I always like Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, but his last few statements was a bit off kilter for me. Helen Zille will NEVER be accepted by the majority of South Africans. Professor Thuli Madonsela will be an excellent president, but I do not think she will accept the offer.
The TLDR of this 10 minute address is as follows: 1. The ANC took a big hit but not big enough. 2. The votes the ANC lost have just gone to the MK who are even more self destructive than the EFF. 3. The DA and the their multi-party charter did not get enough votes to replace the ANC. 4. An ANC + MK coalition would turn SA into a hellhole of epic proportions. 5. By getting less than 10% of the national vote, the EFF can essentially be ignored in any negotiations between either the ANC + DA or the ANC + MK. 5. Only an ANC + DA coalition will retain market stability, investor confidence and the integrity of the Constitution. 6. An ANC + DA coalition will be a bitter pill to swallow for both sides but it is the only rational option given the % votes of each party. So people on both sides must suck it up. 7. This is going to take negotiating at a level more delicate than performing open groin surgery, as there are some strong opposing viewpoints and policies on both sides that neither will be willing to compromise on. I chuckle sometimes at political speak. "Reach out to other parties" equals reach out to the ANC. There is nobody else to reach out to that will make any difference but by not saying ANC somehow cushions the announcement that will be made in 2 weeks time. The ANC for their part are also in a bad spot. If they side with MK then Cyril is out and the hardliners can call the shots. Zuma will never be an MP again but will puppet-master his kids in the national assembly from the sidelines. The rational element of the ANC also know an MK alliance will tank the market and cause a stampede on immigration offices to the UK, AUZ etc. The DA is the only logical alternative if the ANC wants to keep food in the trough for the cadres to feed on. Both the ANC and the DA need each other to survive but both will want to pretend they don't. It is like watching a dystopian romantic drama...they fight, they hate each other, then something happen and they end up together to save the world. Please, both of you, do the right thing for the rest of us, even those who don't know any better and voted us into this mess.
John and the DA certainly have done a lot to move South Africa forward. I cannot fathom the mentality which does not support these values, vision and goals. I notice though, that BEE is not mentioned. I firmly believe that BEE would have been much more successful without it being official, structured government policy. ANC BEE is racist, divisive and counterproductive. Anti-South African.
I m not sure about the BEE though you might be right. However, I must admit that I am always uncomfortable with the white owned companies here at the mine. None of them has an Afrikaans name. I always ask myself if this how it should be or what's going. It's very uncomfortable for me as a black man to see my white fellow south African naming his company with foreign language to him.
Zuma want black people to go back to stone age no cell phone no social media no industrial or computer no airplane no cars no TV no U.N no international no rules of law
That would be ideal, but people like Herman already said before the election, he will rather sit in opposition (meaning ANC+MK or EFF) than make a deal with ANC. So MPC as a whole won't join. Maybe, at most, IFP might join, so the coalition can extend to KZN too
@obakengtaje1759 lol before the election, everyone criticized the DA because they said if it was required to keep EFF out, they would consider working with the ANC. Now that the election has played out, people criticize them for apparently vowing not to work with them? How could they both have vowed not to work with them, and be criticized for saying they would work with them? Seems like you just upset your boy Malema got
Everyone in these comments is as foolish as their uneducated president. The only reason that ANC got 40% of the vote is because Zuma is beefing with Ramphosa. A vote for MK is a vote for ANC, meeting that ANC actually has 55% of the vote.
Marriage between ANC EFF and MK will look better bcs they are Africans born in Africa by African national congress. If anything gets in between then we are doomed for real.
The Left has fought with each other so much that they've left the backdoor open for the DA+Centre-Right. They can now come in, stand by the principles and bring clean, accountable government and take control of the finances. Once the masses of SA see the difference in their every day lives they will move over to the DA. The DA has 20 years of WC governance experience and they've been through the 2016 failed coalitions, which made them realise that you rather walk away than let go of your principles. VIVA DA!
Something we tend to forget is that domestic governance is nothing more than management. In stead of merely appointing competent executives and managers, we overly complicate the issue by having all these political parties. No wonder it takes a political "scientist" to make sense of this nonsense. Scrap all political parties - implement a proper up-down democracy based on quality and proper representation in stead of populism, skullduggery and deceit. There is only one guaranteed result of our current system : Rich politicians .
The problem with dreams is that you have to be asleep to believe them. That said, the thing that frustrated me the most is the fact that there is no other viable party to vote for, but if the DA does form a coalition with the ANC I will not vote for them again.
DA are still sitting at the same general numbers as 4 years ago. That says something very interesting. Also no one other than infighting brought the Anc below majority vote, it was Zuma and only Zuma. Without him they'd still be sitting on majority and the DA would still be sitting in the low 20s. As the main opposition party how do not grow in size and capture substantial votes with a rival with a abismal track record as the Anc. The DA is failing to capture black votes and sort out their image among the masses. As a DA voter its so dissapointing
These elections were a success for DA. Not only did they obtain 2% more votes but they also managed to double their black vote. If PA and the smaller parties didn't exist then they would have likely obtained 25% of the vote.
Get the right people to negotiate a deal Toney Leon is the right person but include at least Solly Masimanga and one or two more people who can speak their language language
Well "things taking their own course" means either a ANC+MK/EFF coalition, which almost immediately destroys our economy. Else if they can't form this, it will be a revote, ANC likely loses more to MK, and we have the same situation. It's not a marriage of convenience, it's a marriage of survival for SA
I didn’t vote for DA but I’m glad of the results,I know that this is the party that worth restoring our economy but because of ethnicity I didn’t share my vote,I wish you the best John.
You think the DA is the best party for SA, but you didn't vote for it "because of ethnicity?" I'm not even sure what that means, could you please tell me?
@@Vyantriit means that if you do not pledge that you're against white supremacists then I'm not interested in cooperating with you, I don't support the Eff or mk cause I think they're idiots and too much, but I will vote for them and encourage others if you do not bend the knee for the new black world order and stand against white supremacy by my side.
@@Gorgeous_nyiko I politely asked a question, you respond with a petty childish insult and you claim to not vote for the party that you think is best for country simply because you perceive yourself to be "of a different ethnicity" yep you are mentally challenged. I do not argue with such people. I wish you the best in your life of ignorance.
@@Gorgeous_nyiko I very politely asked you a simple question and you responded with nothing but a petty, childish insult. You didn't have to respond, but you chose to be immature. You yourself have said that you think the DA is the best party for the country yet you openly say that you chose not to vote for them because you convolutedly perceive yourself to be "of a different ethnicity" than them. We are dealing with a 50 IQ individual here and one with no basic manners at that. I do not argue with such people. I wish you the best in your life of stupidity, ignorance and narrow-mindedness.
That would be the ideal but it looks like it is too late to save SA. The majority still vote for theft, loadshedding and politicians who only look after their own interest. The nhi is the last looting opportunity
A narrative you want to believe.he never supported Hamas nor israel.we have our own problems stop side tracking if it means so much to then you go fight for Palestine. Our country first. That's why eff lost so much votes.more concerned about foreigners than his own people
People they donot see it but guys build SA again .... Change the lives of people and create opportunities.... I believe SA needs These people. Look at the Electricity, water , locations etc ... Allow DA to contribute as well
The only way I see a DA / ANC coalition succeeding is with a completely independent President. Somebody like Musi Maimane or Neil de Beer for example. In addition to this, the national assembly should be one seat per party and all parties should be represented. It would most certainly speed things up.
Our people are wiser than you think. We know you want to officially want to grab our country by ALL. And the voters just told all of you in this Stellenbosch Land Grab setup!. Go rescue Europe n US
We need parties working together and rebuild the country and move it forward. Many parties have had their chance to make their mark/do their thing. That is what I know people want. They want peace, work, place to live, food to eat, great life to live. This is what government should help facilitate. Everything that is too big for single people to maintain, is the job of government to do. That is what we pay taxes for. For the rest government should stop being the sand in the gears. Get out of the way so that the gears and wheels can start running smoothly. People will make that happen. Which ever parties gets that done has my blessing. But we have to look at what parties say and have done to not choose the wrong ones for the coalition.
Thank you Sir. ANC + DA will move South Africa 🇿🇦 forward. Let's put the country first not our interests. No to discriminations, manipulations, xenophobia and racism.
🇿🇦 QUESTION IS: DURING "APARTHEID ERA", WHICH SIDE WAS D.A. PARTY???⁉️ ❌ FREEDOM FOR ALL SOUTH AFRICANS OR SEGREGATION???❓ 👉PLEASE, SOUTH AFRICANS THINK & ANSWER MY QUESTION WHICH SIDE D.A PARTY WAS ON.👈
For the sake of the poor i wish DA can work with the ANC and people will see what the two really stands for and see if they will vote for them in the next elections
With what power? Are you under the illusion that DA got an outright majority? They've got almost half the support of the ANC. Compromises are going to be needed. And you say you won't vote for them again? Who will you vote for that can deliver that? No matter who you vote for, there is not enough support from the electorate to get rid of BEE. I wish there were, but there isn't. But giving unrealistic ultimatums, as if DA are now running the show, is also a bit shortsighted
