Sam never seems to estimate the gap very well, it's always "about a car length" but even if he's using a cadillac from the 1960's to measure his car length it still doesn't compute.
"Closer than you think" Really? It didn't look that way to me. It looked like the M2 convincingly trounced the Mustang. The M2 would've probably beaten the Dark Horse Mustang.
I said the same thing, I was like it was literally 3-3 1/2 cars lengths, I watch a lot of 1320 videos and I'm pretty damn close to what they call on their races
I thought it might be closer than this with the NA Mustang getting a slight jump at the beginning of each pull but the BMW literally has no lag. Amazing.
@@jgaines3200 They should include no-launch drag race to show how they perform in normal driving. LC is cool for bragging rights but if you use it all the time in daily driving you will a) look like a complete idiot and b) wear out your transmission a lot faster. That's why I chose c) Tesla M3P lol.
Really wish more channels would do just Autos vs Autos. This along with the Hagerty video has both m2 and mustang with manuals. I think the m2 would still edge out but an auto will test how well the car performs not how well the driver performs.
Agreed. There's just so much room for driver/operator error. As the old saying goes, the best mod is a driver mod. A better comparison would be if they switched cars every other test.
@@pjsanab auto dark horse cost more than an M2... I priced both out as options on my next car for when I move back home to the US next year from my job in the UK (currently have a 2020 Audi RS Q3). M2 fully loaded was $76k and Dark Horse was $81k. The M2 is a million times better looking than the Dark Horse on the inside and gets a carbon roof.
Even with the 3.73 rear end the gears are too long. Not sure if they have changed the gears in the 24 cars My 2015 pp1 had short gears. Perfect! My 2019 Bullitt has super long gears. Not a good thing for drag racing. On a twisty road it does work . 2nd, and 3rd gears on the corners. Mine has magnaride with Ford racing m 9602 m suspension. Handles.
@@Koishishibaman emissions, the mt82 d4 is trash for that reason. You need 4.10 or 4.56 gears on the mustang to really make them shine if it's manual.
I'm not a major fan of the late model screen dash setups, can't see them aging well if any of these cars become classics. Seems like a lower ratio diff in the stang be better.
the Mustang engine has power from 5000 - 7500 rpm, the BMW from 2500 - 7000 rpm and the BMW has more torque across the entire speed range and thats why the beamer wins.
False. 1. BMW underrates their engines = it has more power than advertised. 2. The M2 in this video has aftermarket lighter wheels. 3. Mustang has longer gear ratios. 4. The M2 (officially) has 406lb-ft from 2650 up to 5870rpm and max power 453hp at 6250rpm. Only big diesel semi trucks have max power at 2000rpm. 5. When racing from a roll, the engine is in the high-rpm range, so the maximum torque (what happens under ~4500rpm) does not matter. Matters only the power between max and min rpm between shifts (like 5000-7000rpm). Higher power across the rev range is because of the higher torque in this rev range. :)
@@speeddemon311 No it does not )) go on a dyno and you'll see. The majority of stock 3.0L diesel passenger cars does not have full torque under 2000rpm. And he didn't even say torque. He said the power is from 2000rpm.
BMW at it again with their underrated horsepower numbers. That M2 is over 500hp for sure. They rate the M8 competition at 617 hp, it weighs well over 2 tons and can run a 10.7 1/4 mile....617 hp, maybe at the wheels...lol.
Yo, you can’t compare this 2 cars, they are different in all aspects. I love Bms and I own Mustang Gt. These are completely different rides guys. At the end of the day every product will find its customer. ✌🏽
Why don’t you switch drivers as well because you’re driving manuals. It would help solidify the results further. Because I promise you if you put a professional or someone who knows how to shift, it wouldn’t matter which car they were in, they’d win.
For the love of god can we see the cars going down the strip instead of a few seconds of take off, it just feel like I’m watching the grass and trees out the side window instead of the cars 😂
Hmm were shifts clean in the mustang? Everytime he shifted the m2 jumped ahead. Anyway we gotta wait for the gen 7 refresh to see any improvement over the gen 6
Jason Camisma did a video of the Dark Horse 6MT vs the M2 6MT.. the Dark Horse got gapped. So the Mustang GT even with perfect shifts wouldn't do so well.. M2 is just faster.
hm i saw that video, now i remember being disappointed with the dark horse. I don't remember the shifts being bad though. Maybe the outcome would have been the same as you say@@patc8653
Fords are lucky to get what Ford rates them at, even their trucks. BMW, on the other hand publishes wheel horsepower as crank, so that M2 is closer to 440hp.
Mustang never stood a chance. The M2 hp rating is what it makes to the wheels. At the crank it’s making well over 500 horsepower easily. Based on the dynos on the M2 even if you gave it only 10% drive train loss it still puts it over 500 hp.
486 = flywheel horsepower, which is how most/all manufacturers list power. 18% drivetrain loss = 398 wheel HP… so their listing is dead on. BMW is known for doing the opposite and listing wheel HP so it appears unusually fast “for the power” since people assume it’s less. At the end of the day 2 car lengths each race is the diffference in gearing and weight. Let’s put the base mustang against a regular 2 or 3 series (non M) and see the difference. Good race Sam, and good shifting.
I was stationed in Germany from 97-2000 and had a 1989 GT 5 speed Mustang I brought over. I had more fun than I knew what to do with when the arrogant bmw, audi and benz drivers thought they'd smoke me. I whooped every single one of them religiously and sent them away looking all sad that their high priced cars got smoked by my $4,000 stang. The only time I got stomped was by a Lamborghini on the autobahn and that's because I was cruising at 120 and he blasted past me. I knew there was no point in even trying so I just let him disappear gracefully while wishing I had a really tall gear that day lmao 😂 😆 🤣
Lmao you’re lucky you never encountered literally any higher trim bmw/benz or audi. Even a normal 540i would’ve smashed your 89 gt, let alone an M car/RS/AMG
@daviskalvans4304 Nearly every single one of the shitmobiles I came across that thought they were all that, weren't even close. They went home looking all sad and depressed every time lmao 🤣
@daviskalvans4304 yes, it felt amazing especially considering the fact that most of them egged the race on with a snobbish attitude. Not sure what they had or what their powerplants consisted of but 9 out of 10 times they wouldn't even be good enough sports to stop, have a laugh and talk cars. They'd just drive away as if it never happened like little pissy sore losers. So yeah, it felt amazing lmao 🤣
Need to put someone in the Mustang that can drive. You changed the gears like you were on a Sunday drive. You only floored the Mustang a couple times. Also you never should let off the gas when shifting gears.
That much shorter M2 shines. Like to see how the autos do. Redo the race w automatics. I think it comes down to gearing and shifting ability in the race
The Mustang is a better looking car by far and I own a 23 BMW 2 Series..not the M2. Sounds better too and is an American icon. Unless you drag race, who cares if it beat the Mustang. Let the cars get older, then repair them…come back and tell us what do you prefer.
The Dark Horse would have been a more head to head price point wise. But even that’s for a poorly equipped M2. The reality is the M2 will spend many more days at the dealership shop. That’s just how beamers are. Nice new but a headache for the owner.
The new Mustang is so disappointing. The weird front grille on the GT. The tacked on screens. Then the Katy Perry version. Its gotten so heavy too. Just eh.
There is no way he did 4.3s 0-60 with that shifting💀 Even the 10-speed won't hit that time on a regular surface. Does he just make up these times, or what?
