I think Honda did some work between the 2019 450L and the 450RL. I upgraded from a KLX300 to a used 2019 CRF450L which I found stock, with only 700 miles, in October 2022. The PO was clearly someone who didn't do his homework, because he got it to be his farm bike. A CRF250F made street legal would have been the bike for that purpose. Anyway, the throttle response was a bit jerky, but what was really concerning is that often, when the fuel was cut when rolling off the throttle, the engine would die and not start back up, whether that's called stalling or flaming out. So I had to modify my riding, grabbing the clutch and slowly rolling off the throttle, in an attempt to keep the bike running. I was getting proficient at it but had the money for an ECU upgrade. I went ahead and ordered the AIM ECU with a switch and two maps. I thought that maybe I'd have buyer's remorse with the ECU since I was getting used to the bike's idiosyncrasies, but once I installed the ECU, any doubts were gone. It started acting like any other bike I've ever owned does. Some might complain that the throttle is still jerky, but there's no more off throttle flame outs. Those were pretty dangerous, in my opinion. I was accelerating on a freeway entrance ramp once and cut the throttle to match the flow of traffic and had a flameout. That scared the crap out of me. Since getting the ECU, I've only stalled the bike a few times on tight single track because I didn't get on the clutch quickly enough and let the revs drop too low. That's mostly been whenever I've forgot to switch from the open map to the enduro/single track map with the map switch. I think I'll get a Rekluse auto clutch to make this thing a single track slayer. It's already really good but my clutch hand gets abused and I tire out way more quickly in single track on my 450L than i do on my Beta XTrainer.

Haha, "Why did I buy this"? That was my first impression of my CRF450L. I didn't keep it long and was very happy the day I sold it.

@@ridemfast7625 I had the CRF450L, 2nd year of production if I recall. I now ride a Tenere 700 and a KLX300.

Good review, I agree with everything you said. You get use to the responsiveness of the throttle after a few rides, I think the complaints are over blown. Its one of my favorites bikes, it feels like a mountain bike compared to my Tenere 700 and XR650l. Big reason I went with the 450l over the other high performance dual sports is due to it having a pretty stout rear sub frame, I go on long rides and carry tubes and tools. The stock suspension on this is thing is phenomenal, the 450l likes to go fast. It's definitely not a beginners motorcycle, probably why you see a few for sale second hand with very low miles like you mentioned. I really like this bike.

Glad to see I am not alone in my thought process. I have a couple heavier ADV bikes and this thing plows through everything. I can’t wait to load it down with some small bags and do some real adventures. Providing there is a gas station around lol

@@SquatchReloaded I replaced the stock tank with a 3gallon from IMS, it lessened the range anxiety.

@socaladventure2340 it’s on my radar. Seems a good value vs carrying rotopax

How bad does the vibration go into your hands? I was just wondering my hands. Go numb easy. I think it's an awesome bike though.
