his month we’ve been collecting all the current dual-sport bikes to prepare for the March print edition of Dirt Bike Magazine, which will be devoted entirely to dual-sport and adventure bikes. Of all of them, the 2024 Husqvarna FE350S is one of my favorites. I don’t even think of it as a dual-sport bike. When I want to go on a legit off-road ride, this is going to be one of the first bikes I reach for. The most striking aspect of the Husky 350 is how light it feels. On our scale, it’s 248 pounds without fuel. It actually gained 3 pounds since last year, but you would never know it. You can toss it around and generally manhandle it at any speed. This is further proof that horsepower is the sworn enemy of handling. Half the reason the FE350S handles so well is because it’s not especially fast. We all know why that is. Between the sound restrictions and the emission equipment, the FE is pretty stuffed up. But that’s actually fine. It’s what makes the 350 so good as an off-road bike. It’s preposterously easy to ride. And it actually does make more power than it did last year. The new motor has just a little more in the middle and on top.In 2022, Husqvarna set the wheels in motion for a complete makeover of every model in its line-up. That started with the 2022 Rockstar Editions and now the 2024 FE350S is on the same page. The 350 actually got a more extensive list of new parts than most of the others, starting with a more compact motor. The new frame is virtually identical to what the motocross bikes got last year. Unlike KTM’s dual-sport bikes, which use PDS no-link suspension, the Husky uses a linkage-driven design which is, again, just like the motocross bikes. Even the fork comes from the motocross world. This is a coil-spring version of the WP Xact fork.Like any other dual-sport bike, it’s difficult to go searching for more power. Changes to the airbox or exhaust will throw that delicate fuel-mapping out of whack. Flame-outs, stalls and hesitations will become the norm. There are several ways to address this, but all will make the bike a closed-course competition bike in the eyes of the government. JD Jetting has the easiest and most affordable solution with its piggyback fuel injection tuners. They sell for about $250 and allow you to make changes to the mixture. Coober, Athena/GET and Vortex all have more sophisticated systems that allow changes to the mixture and ignition mapping-mostly in the $800 range. The guys at Slavens Racing, Twisted Development and Taco Moto all have some expertise in this matter and will be happy to offer advice.Husqvarna has a philosophy of making one frame with very few alterations for virtually all its dirt bikes. This generation of the universal Husky frame was considered to be a little stiff when it was introduced on the 2024 Rockstar Edition. But the issues that motocross guys face are completely different from those experienced by dual-sport riders. The suspension for the FE350S is so much softer that frame flex plays a far lesser role. Having said that, the FE’s suspension is stiffer than it was last year. The rear shock went up from a 42 N/mm spring rate to 45. In front, the springs are unchanged, but the fork is now a closed-cartridge system with much more precise valving. It rides higher in its travel and has less dive. Overall, the new suspension set-up repositions the bike as a more serious off-road machine. Rainy season is just starting here in SoCal and that’s prime dual-sport weather. We all will be riding the FE350S a lot in coming weeks. You can read more about it in the March, 2024 Buyer’s Guide edition of Dirt Bike.

Nicely done. I went with a 2024 FE501S. Doing all the usual mods. The new suspension is definitely a big improvement from the previous gen. I still need to re-spring and valve since I'm 200 lbs. before riding gear and tools. Love your reviews, thanks.

Picking mine up Friday and I'm fine with 32hp and only 255lbs wet, about as perfect as you can get for a street legal light motocross bike!

Keeping those after market guys in business - previous versions of the seat, tank, footpegs, etc, etc etc, no longer fit.

Good review, its refreshing to have a review that points out the negatives. Most others are just re stating the marketing spiel.

3:40 FE and TE bikes are for enduro racing. The S-model does not exist outside the United States and I'm not sure what the differences to regular FE 350 model are, but basically all enduro racing bikes are somewhat corked up by default because they have to pass emission standards and such. Because in traditional enduro some of the transitions between the stages happen on public roads the bikes must have type approval for road use which also consequently makes all of them possible to register in Europe. With 2-stroke carb models turning your bike race ready used to be as simple as switching the pipe to unrestricted one and rejetting the carburetor, but with fuel injection you have to retune the ECU and so on to get the most out of the bike. Also if you are riding traditional style enduro - in other words fast open trails with jumps and such - you may want to consider revalving the suspension. Enduro racing nowadays is split into two categories - traditional enduro (ie. EnduroGP) and hard enduro (ie. FIM HEWC). Traditional enduro is more similar to motocross in a sense the trails are fast, there are jumps and so on. However, there are also some technical sections, but nothing compared to hard enduro which is all about technical riding and navigating gnarly terrain losing as little time as possible. Most manufacturers try to please the average trail rider what comes to the stock suspension which also happens to be a happy medium between the two disciplines.

i love my 2012 husaberg 300 te. been riding for it 11 years, we're pretty much one machine, i know it so well. but I moved to a new area where the riding areas are far, small, and spaced out by roads. Having something like this would be really nice. despite what pol tarres does my t7 is not a dirtbike

Got this bike to replace my 2012 350 EXC-F. The bike feels down in power compared to my old 350. It really is corked up. The frame and suspension stock is ready to ride from the factory and its lower seat helps over the PDS. Very happy with it.

Real nice bike. Did I miss the HP and torque numbers in the video? Thank you for listing the weight. It's 248lbs dry? So topped off, I guess it's about 260 - 265 or so? I have a Suzuki RMX 450Z that I made street legal, bought it for 7K brand new a few years ago. I almost would think about getting the Husky, but with little weight difference, probably less power, and everything else equal, guess I'll make do with Zuke for a few more years.

Nice brief review and footage. It could have been shorter if the same footage wasn't replayed repeatedly. It is really cool footage but I could have just replayed parts of the video in order to watch it more than once if desired. ;)

Add tax, prep and setup fees and suddenly it's the same price as an 890 Adventure! Not sure the '24 is 40-50% more bike than a used 20-23 350 with mods ($12.5K new and no farkles vs $7K used with $1000 in farkles)

This looks like the perfect trail bike, but anyone who buys it should just plan to spend an extra $1200-$1500 for GET ECU and End Cap to deal with the corked up bullshit, but that's not different than the last several years of these bikes. Oh and add an extra $500 for tires and mousse's
