From my experience, the most efficient way to drive a hybrid is to accelerate relatively firmly (i.e. let the gas engine turn on) up to speed and then coast in EV. Accelerating slowly in EV from stop is ironically less efficient, not to mention potentially rage-inducing to the cars behind you.

The Elantra is nice, but I wish they still made the Ioniq hybrid. I’ve got a ‘22 Ioniq hybrid and it’s downright effortless to beat the 55mpg EPA figure. Typically highway trips will end with me around 65mpg if I can keep to 65-70, and it’ll switch to full electric even when I’m going 70. Also, as a hatchback, it’s got that extra level of versatility. Only downside to it in my mind is the 6 speed DCT, I think I would have preferred an eCVT, even if the DCT allows it to feel a little more fun to drive. But let’s be honest, it’s still a 139HP hybrid. Give me extra efficiency.

At 26:15, 65.5 MPGs on that tank is insane.. Greater than 50 MPGs during the course of testing is really impressive. I think Hyundai's hybrids are catching up quickly to Toyota and Honda. Samsung is working on Solid State Battery technology so once they get to mass production, I think Hyundai / Kia / Genesis will level up again and really make a solid run for top selling vehicles over the next decade, if they continue to improve at the current pace.

I had one of these (2023). Unbelievable fuel economy, easily in the 60s. But it was the most uncomfortable car I’ve ever owned, the seats are so stiff and feel like rocks after a couple hours. Everything in the interior including the seats just feels SO cheap.

I get high 40s up to over 50 mpg real mileage in my NON hybrid model 🤷🏻‍♂️ I fit a family of 5 in it because out spacious it is. So ya worth it.

A Town Car plus the GS400 would be a hilarious old V8 Sedan combo tbh. Or find a Mercury Marauder since they look a bit more menacing

My 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid's trip computer consistently reads around 45-46 MPG average, but my calculated average based on fill-ups and distance traveled is around 41.5 MPG. This is why I tend to not trust the trip computer readout.

Driving experience, cabin space and features-wise, how would you compare this to the Kia Niro Hybrid? I can't decide between either of them.

You did not mention that Hyundai only charges $15,000 for a replacement hybrid battery..... Look it up happened to two people in Vegas....

I would get one but I need a car that lasts more than 200,000 mi and i don't exactly live close to work I live 30 mi away 60 mi a day and that adds up quickly as flashy as the Elantra is due to my current situation I cannot

No rear a/c vents is just about a deal breaker for me. Its really shame that none of the compact sedans come with them .

It's a shame we don't get the limited trim here in Canada It loses features the Blue gets as well, switching the lights to reflector LED's, and it costs the same as the N-Line which has significantly more features and not much worse fuel economy If they brought this trim over, especially with the costs of everything I feel it would do well

I have a hyundai elantra 2017, and my frame from the back of the car blew off going down. hwy it almost hit a truck and now the front end is about to do the same. If it's not one thing it's another plus lots more going on electrical and more.i like the car runs smooth except for the bs I don't need . Sorry

This is the worst hybrid they make by far imo. Super smooth and quiet in electric mode and then when the engine kicks on it's like there's a $30 home depot generator behind a firewall made out of drywall. Tucson hybrid absolutely fks tho

I just traded in a Kona N for a 24 Elantra Hybrid limited. That Kona was a blast but after 15,000 miles of getting bounced around it was time for something more civil haha. I love it! I completely identify with what you said about being an enthusiast but behind the wheel of this your trying to keep the motor from coming on. This feels like it definitely has more sound deadening than a Civic. Great review!

Because of Kia/Hyundais DCT hybrid system and the electric motors placement in between, you can maintain EV mode at highway speeds on relatively flat roads.

Im averaging over 51mpg on the 24 accord EXL even though the car is rated a lot lower than this elantra. I don't get the EPA ratings sometimes

I have a 23 hybrid blue. The 24 looks better, but... Amazing mpg. Gearbox can be loud when has engine kicks in, but about the same as any economy car. Same with wind noise. It's not horrible but if you don't have the ratio on you'll hear it. Seats are not the most comfortable. I can take them for 2 hours then I have to stop. Better get yourself a memory foam cushion for the seat. I got my 23 blue for $26k out the door. I doubt you can get the 24 for that.

I just this exact car yesterday 09/27/2024 for a total out the door price of $32000 with HMF of 1.99% APR for 60 months. I was at the dealer for 6 freaking hours!! The ride is not so smooth as the car that i traded in which was 2022 honda accord lx. But i notice when i was driving on the dashboard the tire pressure was showing as 28 to 27 psi for each tire, but on the driver side panel it says they should have 35 psi so maybe that's why the car was not smooth and virating a bit when i left the dealership, and also hitting the gas i felt barely any power even change the drive mode to sports mode, but since today 09/28/2024 is a new day and i'll have more time to play with it when i get off my midsnight shift job, i'll fill the tires to the recommended manufacturer settings but i need to do it when the car has been kool off because if i do right away it won't be accurate since hot tires have more psi than cold tires, and the psi from the manufacturer is referring to cold 35 psi pressure. I am not removing any of the film on the dashboard as i want to protect it as much as i can, i'm going to buy a steering wheel cover, plastic carpets covers, detailed it, and get familiar with all of the settings, i'm pretty tech savy so that should be easy for me. But I hope the ride becomes smoother and a little bit more powerful, oh yes another thing i notice was that my a/c is not supercold like my 2022 accord lx which got ridiculous cold, the elantra just gets cold but not super cold and i live in florida where it gets almost to 100 degrees so i need that ac to be supercold, i'll talk to the dealer and ask them to check the freon level, maybe it came not fully charge from the manufacturer

The biggest problem with these hybrids are these GDI engines. Not specific to Hyundai. I have the same problem with fuel dilution in my Santa Fe Hybrid. Short trips don't allow the gas to burn off. I have about 5% fuel dilution in my latest oil analysis from Blackstone which is causing premature metal wear. As a result, I need to be changing oil at 4000 miles and using higher viscosity oil (switching to 5W-30 from 0W-20).

Was debating between this and a used sonata N line, I think I’m going to stick with this mostly due to the warranty, and blue hybrid costs roughly $26k new in my area. Cannot beat having goof fuel economy

like the front end not a fan of the rear. though, after getting burned from buying my new 2014 forte and having to deal with kia boys, recalls, and cheap parts failing over the years i rather not buy anything to do with hyundai/kia ever again. next car will either be toyota or honda.

11:54 excessive EV in a hybrid without a plug is a net LOSS since the engine must recharge the battery after a heavy depletion such as trying to accelerate in EV mode. Getting up to speed at a reasonable rate is MORE efficient.

13:15 ahhh man i miss living here... it was just a different vibe. but yeah honestly a compact hybrid like this or the corolla hybrid are perfect for commuting in areas like this. you're "eco-friendly" and you arent breaking the bank with the MSRP either. just gotta hope these newer KDM products have less reliaiblity issues and in soon time they'll have much better reputation with other enthusiasts and consumers!

Hyundai is really messing up not offering this with the 1.6turbo hybrid system in the SUV's.

2014 Elantra was the best design so far….its getting a bit dated now ten year on, but still looks good with modern designs.

This car looks on par or even nicer than my Audi. I'd have bought one if not for the fact that I had to push my friends 2013 Sonata across three lanes of busy rush hour city traffic, across an intersection, up hill into a burger king parking lot because their Theta 2 engines have a knack for disliking being unexploded.

I have a friend who worked at kia. When he was there he was all praise for the brand. After he left the company he told me about all the new engines that were taking up space at dealerships. All the engines that were to replace faulty ones

my issue is that it's a HYUNDAI. From 7 people that own a Hyundai that I know, 5 had a catastrophic engine failure and luckily had it replaced under warranty (the other two just have really old models, perhaps they built them better back in the day). And then there's cases for hybrids where the battery replacement is like $15k and the EV battery replacement because of a minor scratch is like the price of an entire car....I'd just NEVER trust a Hyundai.

Just got the blue hyrbid a month ago, my first new car. i had driven a 1990 lumina, 1993 caprice classic, 1996 park avenue, and a 2004 lesabre prior, so this feels like a luxury car to me.
