One thing that you should have noted in the video but didn't is that despite the boxy styling there are subtle curves and changes to the body frame as well as active air panels in the front so overall the vehicle gets a .29 drag coefficient which is on par with a Gen 5 Corvette. Pretty incredible if you ask me

The CD is surprisingly low for such a boxy vehicle. MPG estimates are essentially the same as the previous gen despite it being bigger heavier and boxier

I personally love boxy vehicles as I’m tall and they’re more practical so I’m enjoying this new Santa Fe re-do! Also love the fact that its controversial design has people all up in arms, makes it more interesting IMO. Seriously considering the hybrid version as a travel vehicle! Nice review guys! 👍🏼

Hey @carconfections - I know you gave measurements around 22:00, do you think this could fit a 4x8 sheet of drywall or plywood if it came down to it? I know the 4Runner and only a few other mid-sizes can fit something that large without being a large SUV.

I ordered a 24 SF Hybrid Limited AWD White w/ gray. I'm told they won't be here until summer now. Nice review fellas. The only thing really cheezee on the XRT are those wheels. Could they have meade them look any cheaper????

We have a 2019 and daughter has the 2020. Over all, I am very happy with it. It has been on several very long trips and was quite comfortable. This new look? Not diggin' it all that much. Like the added room but it looks like there is a lot of wasted space, like above the engine. Speaking of power, would have been nice if they added more to move this heavier vehicle. The dash lay out....meh...not turned off but not impressed with all the "squareness". Not a third row fan, nobody to hide out back there. Overall? I'll have to see one in person for a final opinion. You two did a great job with this review, thanks....

I would've liked to see a two piece rear hatch or at least the ability to open the rear glass separately. It would also be nice to be able to get the Limited trim with the higher ground clearance from the XRT trim. It would also be nice to have a panoramic sunroof option.

I don't understand why car manufacturers favor easy physical controls for temp settings instead of the fan. I mean, for the most part in the winter i have the temp on high, in the summer on low...makes sense right...but what I do adjust is the fan speed, which would be great to have a physical button for instead of some screen you tap, which btw appears not to be covered by the "bumper to bumper" warranty, only by 3/36 (at least with kia, pretty safe to assume hyundai is the same)

because they assume you would be using the auto function, so you wouldnt need to adjust the fan speed.

Great review as usual guys. Regarding that handle on the exterior to help you get up to the roof rails, I can see people burning their hand if that side of the car has been in the sun. Or maybe that part is plastic? Curious if you noticed.

Trt trim looks good. Negative gives ford flex vibes positive def gives of land rover vibes. Good power and aggressive tires. Transmission probably as reliable as a land rover. Nice interior.

Question for you guys, in the Passport Trailsport video, you commented on extra tire noise from the Grabber AT tires. What say you about these Continental AT tires? At least in the video audio I couldnt hear any notable tire howl.

I hate that all of the reviewers keep saying the Santa Fe never had a 3rd row until now. I own a 2017 Santa Fe and it has a 3rd Row just like a Kia Sorento. I believe they had 3 row Santa Fe’s until 2018. If you go measurement for measurement, the 3 row Santa Fe from 2017 is about the size of the Palisade and Telluride (which is why, if only for size purposes, I can’t justify buying one. )

I have had Hyundai rentals that were very impressive, but, am a Toyota loyalist because the dealerships and maintenance are no fuss, no muss. Well the biggest manufacturer of hybrids has been and continues to be Toyota. They don't have any kind of special maintenance at all in the 7-8 year window and Toyota actually backs the battery for 150,000 miles. Other brands are newer to the hybrid game but you shouldn't run into any hybrid-specific issues in the first 10 years from what we hear.

Pricing is actually great for how big and practical it is. The main competitor, the Highlander is extremely outdated, smaller and more expensive. This will sell extremely well. I would love to see you test the Calligraphy since it is always so luxurious.

I find it interesting that the smallish, EXTREMELY outdated and more expensive highlander will outsell the Santa Fe. I disagree with "extremely" outdated though as the highlander in hybrid form gets the very best gas mileage out of any midsized suv. It might be a little outdated as almost all toyota models are. Currently though the Grand highlander is taking sales from the standard highlander.

@@FatalAnimalToyota outsells every other brand on recognition and perceived reliability alone. They could release a literal turd and people would buy it anyway due to being Toyota. No other manufacturer outsells them. Nobody actually buys a vehicle based on their sales. They buy it based on their preferences: reliability, design, comfort, practicality etc. That's why many brands and choices exist. But, the new Santa Fe will no doubt have a decent share in the market of smaller 3 row SUVs. It will also come as a hybrid, is way ahead in tech, features and luxury. Its 3rd row is also usable unlike the Highlander's, which makes it a much better choice. The Grand Highlander is much newer, so no surprise it is selling well. It's also got a usable 3rd row and newer, nicer cabin. The Highlander should never have been 3 rows since it is too small.

"perceived" reliability has been objective reality for years. People buy Toyotas because they are rock solid vehicles. People want to get from A-B with as little chance of trouble as possible. That is why Toyotas sell. "advanced technology" like Hyundai duel clutch transmissions have a less than stellar reputation. Simplicity is the Hallmark of good design and Toyotas have that in spades. All vehicles have their pluses and minus's and for most buyer that keep their vehicles for only 5 years a Hyundai will be fine. That said extremely outdated is hyperbole at very best.

The Santa Fe 2024 is my #1 contender right now from a LONG list of vehicles... but no PHEV is a bummer. PHEV is currently the best overall solution between gas, hybrid, and EV powertrains. Cheaper smaller batteries to replace, 120v charging, majority of local miles driven without gas, and no need to recharge on longer trips. WE. NEED. MANY. MORE. OF. THESE.

Great vehicle. Lots of space, good standard power of a turbo, great design IMO, great tech, and a good engine. I know it is good because it is port and dual injection, and has been in the sonata, a few Genesis, Santa Cruz, and the previous Santa Fe. I’d pick this over a Palisade currently until the palisade is updated.

Santa Fe has offered a third row in older models. We had a 2013 Santa Fe xl that had third row seats and some of the non xl models had third row.

I was so impressed by the review and decided to get this vehicle, but after I saw it on auto show in DC I changed my mind. Coz it’s so compact and smaller than what it appears on video. Forget about 3rd row, the second row is not even wide enough for me, I’m 6.2ft and overall I didn’t like it. Palisade is a better choice size wise……😂

Yes for aesthetics it appears to be 2. But only the driver side is a charger. The other one is just a rubber mat

I am in love with the new Santa Fe. I was torn about the rear end at first. But I understand the assignment it's giving. Lowering the taillights really maximizes the cargo wide opening. I'm not mad at it. It would look cool to add a rear tire on the tailgate to help break up the space between the lights and window seal area, like a G-Wagon. Which also has lower taillights and is the vehicle of high-class society. But doing that wouldn't be functional, which means the tailgate will have to swing out instead of powering up and down from the hatch. Hyundai could have made the taillights vertical, but people will complain how much it will look like an Escalade. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. But I will say this, I very much commend Hyundai for giving us unique designs and stepping outside of the box (no pun intended), giving us the best technology and features for the money. Thank you, Hyundai, for not making your vehicles copy and paste the same design language like Honda. I believe that this Santa Fe is going to be a big hit, especially in urban communities. For those who want a Land Rover look but don't want the maintenance, sign me up with a white Calligraphy trim with all blacked-out tinted windows with beige or brown interior!

You should start adding license plate lights to your reviews. Telluride goes the same route with non led reverse and license plate lights, unfortunately.

I wish it had a regular 8 speed automatic. The dual clutch will suck in traffic and even light off-roading. Plus added service costs.

@@keska01 They are usually very jerky and can shift harsh. They were designed for sports cars. They require more maintenance and fluid changes. Many companies have made unreliable DCT transmissions. The Ford focus dual clutch would often blow up every 60,000 miles. I've heard the Hyundai DCT is bad on dirt roads and light off-road.

Back looks minivanish to me. For the Santa Fe it's a good update overall. Old one looked like ish to me. Palisade I really like the look of though. Hope they can keep that classy elegant look but I wish they would add a column shifter so bad. I had this electronic crap.

I didnt even know it was going on sale this month. I wanna know where Hyundai cost cuts at. Theres no way you could have that many features on that calligraphy and it being a 48-50k vehicle. The power second row seats and 3rd row climate control is something I’ve only seen in higher end Mercedes and bmw products + the driver seat massager and reclining abilities. Its nice but at the same time it really has me skeptical

They manufacture and supply everything in-house which is why they can easily undercut rivals. Hyundai is a massive company that makes their own steel and parts.

Those reverse lights are super low. Is that even safe? I noticed Tuscon's turn signal and reverse lights were this low too.

I drive a tall SUV and was behind a Tuscon yesterday and couldn't see the turn signal at all. Not safe at all. I don't know what they were thinking. You don't sacrifice safety for style- and that "style" wasn't even something that stylish

Whatever you do, don’t buy ANY Hyundai or Kia product that has that 8 speed DCT. Don’t make my mistake. my calligraphy has been in the shop so much and doesn’t even have 20k miles.
