In the eighties I installed white oak herringbone floors throughout the main level of our home. Gorgeous! Until a year later when California experienced a drought and they began to shrink, leaving many, MANY crevices between the boards. The supplier and their team scratched their heads but didn’t offer any solutions. It was so distressing we sold the house. Now we’re living in Nashville where the climate is more humid in summer and very dry in winter. Our crown molding between the kitchen cabinet tops and ceiling have separated. We will have the painter caulk again, which hopefully will solve the problem, but my point is that weather can affect our beautiful design decisions in ways we never imagined. Grrrrr.

This is actually a very good point. For this reason, it is very important to do proper installation. I had issues with installation of my floors that were done nine years ago. I had to redo my DEN. Then you systems of using these lose, and subflooring have really remedy the situation. ❤️

@@NinaTakesh As an experienced professional you know how to focus on the installers and what they should be doing. Because more often than not they get it wrong, I’ve found. But as a young mom in her twenties I assumed the trades people were pros. This is a very good argument in favor of hiring a designer - someone who has a battalion of tradesmen in his or her pocket. I just finished gutting and designing our Nashville house and just the other day was thinking I should have hired a designer. I’m pretty good but don’t have the wealth of knowledge or resources professional designers have and I’ve wasted a lot of money redoing things. Though it has been fun and educational. Skilled designers definitely deserve their fees.

Dark wood tones are my favorite. I'm so happy they are trending.

Hi Nina I wish to know coz I cant see clearly the rug you sitting on top are the edges finished or a raw finish? I am thinking of buying some carpet and get the factory to overlock them but love the edge of your rug . What is the best look for edge finishes ?

You have just talked about so many of my favorite things!! But maybe they are my favorites because I’ve watched your channel for so long!! 😂 I have been in love with herringbone floors forever and am finally installing some in my home next week!! Also love zellige, checkerboard floors and crown moldings. Walnut has always been my favorite wood. The burgundy looks gorgeous in these photos but I don’t think it’s something I would incorporate into my own home- I do however love that FB shade Brinjal that you recommended recently!
