I'm genuinely really sad that Chris is leaving. He will be really really hard to replace, I think the three of you worked well together. I'd say all the best Chris, but theres always 005Agima
a bald female who is also into retro computers might take years to find. :P Fun aside. I am very sad. Chris had such great chemistry with the others. and the "I didn't play that game" running gag will be missed.
Great episode as always chaps, and sorry to hear you're leaving Chris, but totally understand your reasons. Hope to see you all at Kickstart this summer 🤞
Sad to see you go Chris, as an aussie living in the UK I've really enjoyed your perspectives, humour, and of course your journey with everything retro. Wishing you all the best for your next chapter and looking forward to seeing you back as a guest someday! Cheers
Only discovered this channel at the same time Chris came on board and have loved the growth of the banter between you all. We will miss his contribution and I wish him all the best. Maybe he can finally play some of the games talked about on the channel 😅
Well Happy New Year folks, and how dare you leave us Chris.... 😡 Seriously though, Thank You Chris for everything you've brought to this show/podcast; I will miss you when you've gone, but, I do hope that you will indeed come back from time to time and join in..... All the very best of wishes to you Sir... 😊 👍
I played X-Wing on my 386SX. Played through the whole campaign, but never managed to even complete the first tutorial level. The reason was the time-limit on the tutorial level which ran on the system-clock independently from the game's FPS. The game was running so slowly on the SX that it was impossible to beat the tutorial within the given time limit. 😅
I too started listening just as Chris joined. It's going to be hard losing you Chris, but I wish you all the best. Looking forward to watching your future 005 AGIMA videos.
Oh wow I got a mention, thank you so much 😁😁😁 Definitely the aim for 2024 is to play more and talk less about games and I was really thrilled Chris has taken that on board - the hashtag #PlayMoreIn24 is a great idea ! On the downside sorry to hear he is leaving, hopefully he can keep us updated on his channel as to how his gaming goes. Best of luck with TWIR Podcast for the future, and thanks once again for the mention 👍🐻
Sad to see Chris go. I have very much enjoyed his contribution to the show. I can imagine that AMIGA Bill or one of the AMIGOS would make for a great addition to the show
Wow didnt see that coming. You are a great guy Chris and i will miss your insight and humour. I feel like your retro experiences, especially with the amiga were completely in line with my experiences. Good luck with whatever you do. I will still be checking your channel out regularly. ❤👍
Love you Chris - hope you get the head space you need and you can continue to enjoy your hobby, will miss you when you finish at the end of the month but look forward to any guest appearances!
I had to stop the video and write this... When Neil talks about not looking back, that he was always looking for the next thing... This is so true... At the time I had absolutely no nostalgia for the past games/systems, my eyes were always on what the future would bring. Now I can see the value of what was being created before our eyes and knowing the context I cherish it. I remember being confused/ frustrated about why some old arcade games couldn´t be ported to more recent machines after all they were more powerful systems and the games were awesome, but other than that my mind was always going forward... PS: The PC being an open platform regarding what the machine can have inside (CPU, RAM, etc) the ball could be kicked ahead and the consumers could run for it. The Amiga was a closed system and the developers had to take into account the base system. That happens even today in game development when the game is multi-platform.
I'm sorry to see Chris is moving on. The very first time I watched a video on the 005Agima Channel, I knew that this man was a dedicated and passionate "keeper of the flame" of our hobby...a man that was totally genuine, and who didn't shy away from showing his emotion for what he loved.
What a shame Chris is leaving the show but I think you are doing the right thing and I do hope you will be back on a somewhat regular basis ( maybe full time again some day ? ). You are a really talented presenter and you do genuinely come across as someone who would be fun to be around. I definitely need to "play more in 24". I've barely played anything since around 1996 but thanks to shows like this, I am slowly getting back into it. My daughter and I started recording us playing on her RU-vid channel and it's been great fun. We barely get a single view but she loves it. Especially as she is the expert and I am now the novice. I keep telling her I was good 30+ years ago but she does not believe me!
The main reason I bought my original Amiga 2000 was the expandability. Hard drives, memory expansion, CD drive, AV, etc. PC emulation was on my to do list until I realized I could build a PC clone for close to what a bridgeboard would cost. In addition there were horror stories about configuring bridgeboards.
I'm glad to hear about the interest in retro gaming. But it's a little amusing to me because I've never really "graduated" to much else. I was "class of 1984", which meant I grew up in the arcades with pinball, Pong, Space Invaders, Asteroids, Tempest, Pac-Man, Galaga, Donkey Kong and many others, as well as the Atari 2600. In the 90s, I eagerly snatched up Microsoft's licensed reproductions of many of those "golden era" titles (as well as pinball1). Then, around 2000 or so, I picked up all of the Jack's Games tv plugins versions and played them with my young daughter. Then MAME came onto the scene and it was practically an orgy of arcade riches. I bought a Wii for my daughter in 2006, but now it is my wife and I who still play that nearly two-decade old console, albeit on a 120" projector screen. I also did some PC gaming in the late 80s and 90s, things like Kings Quest, Warcraft and some Star Wars titles up to about Jedi Outcast (still a great title).
I had an Amiga 1200, and pretty quickly got tired of disc swapping, so put in a hard drive. It was just as simple as stated, open case, plug in, and off you go. And with a 120 MB hard disc meant for a laptop, I had way more room than the dedicated Amiga drives on the market, and I put most of my games on (a lot of games got cracked for HD install that weren't possible otherwise) That bought me another 3 years before I surrendered and bought a PC in 1996. Gunship 2000 was my flight sim of choice, and just like Chris, I thought that was as complex and visually impressive enough to suggest a compromised X-Wing might have been possible on the Amiga.
So sorry to hear Chris is leaving he'll be very much missed, but hopefully he'll do the odd show in the future. I like the idea of play more in 2024, I've some purchased games on Switch I need to give some time to and I'll be looking to code on my Spectrum Next that arrived just before Christmas.
I hope we get a best of Christ video. My favourite bit was when he mentioned the Batman pack that one time. (Has to rival Dave's Ultima mentions) All the best definitely works best as a trio, he will be missed.
I remember "clocking" Yars Revenge on the 2600 as a kid. I couldn't believe it when the score went back to 0. I have no idea how I managed it as I'm rubbish at it now :)
Sad to hear Chris is stepping back, however totally understand the reasons. If you need a stand in, I'd love to chat to you all about all things retro!!
Retro gaming in 2024 will be great, as there are ever better ways to play old games while there are ever less new games to forward to. To me, new DCS planes/campaigns and perhaps the Switch 2 aside I have nothing on my wishlist for this year which is sad. All power to my retro handhelds!
I kept my 486 from '93 to '99, before resisting an upgrade (to a K6-2 with "MMX", "3D Now!", and all that cobblers). By the end of the century, a 486 running at 25mHz was not a popular setup.
😢 But Chris I made my Baulders gate party look like the TWIR gang. Do I now have to kill you off in game? All the best for the future hope we see you as a guest again.
Battlefield V is a fantastic game. Sounds like you were playing on some of the smaller maps Neil. The larger maps are absolutely huge with tons of vehicles, and playing on these maps certainly doesn't feel like Call of Duty. Select the strategic map playlist rather than the tactical one.
Noooooo! Just got to Chris' announcement. Surprising and sad, but understandable news. TWiR won't be the same without him. Wishing you all the best Chris!
2024 is going to be a good year for retro considering that people are always working on the MiSTer, for the Saturn and people are hosting tournaments with the net link
"(reverse) holding the shaft, vibrate the base..." Good luck replacing that man there. You will be missed Chris xxx Ps. How about me? I got an E in A-level computing, don't live in the UK and have played a few games. I presume I am over qualified...
That's right! We didn't mention it until the end of the story because we wanted people to think about the teenager that wrote the letter rather than the famous RU-vid channel
The only presenter who lives half an hour from me. I think Commodore Cave bloke is bald (the main qualification for this show), but he will sing theme tunes very badly
shame I only recently found out Chris was just a couple of hours away from me after I donated a bunch of Amiga stuff to some random person from gumtree
How many people owned an Amiga anyway. seems like most people don't even remember it even if they remember c64 or other 80s computers. they couldn't sell a lot of of games on a system that only had a handful of users.
Pedant of the week: Boys, if Super Mario World actually ran on the Gameboy, it would have been a lot better than Tetris. I suspect you might be thinking of Super Mario Land...
The condescending attitude especially by many women towards computer games persists into the 2020's. It is sad. Frankly, I do know where she is coming from. as a mother you are in the end responsible for your kid having some fruits and veggies now and then instead of 24/7 pizza which the probably like better. So I see where she is coming from. On the other hand she is NOT HIS mother and currently at work, in her job, as a journalist, who should do enough homework to realize the size of the achievement of a 13 year old being the first person in the whole world to finish a game that is almost 3 times his own age. Something probably a hundred million people or more have tried before and failed. Instead she erases her professionality by petty, matronizing, small horizon admonishing "now go outside and do something of actual worth." Because of cause as a mother she is THE leading expert on the planet on what children do and doesn't need to know anything more. Everytime something like this happens is a horrible, horrible setback for feminism. yes I am firing the big guns here. Yes I am dramatic. because I am SICK of it. Sick of the damage they do. Especially to women in STEM who fight hard enough to be even taken seriously.
