2024 Land Rover Discovery: Better Than The Defender? 

I have owned 2 Discoverys and a Range Rover. I just purchased the 2024 Discovery and love it! The Defender is a nice, but very rugged, vehicle - good for off-roading but not so great for every day on road driving - in my opinion. It was genius for Land Rover to remake and bring the Discovery back. My local dealership can't keep them on the lot - new or used. I feel like the Range Rover line should be reduced - there are so many RR models.

The Disco has a place in the line-up for sure. It’s a genuine 3rd row vehicle that is not massive like the D130, and offers a bit more luxury/refinement than the Defender, with a much better/larger infotainment screen than 99% of Defenders. It also has more room than a D110. Best value and most versatile in the entire LR line.

as someone who experienced both, i’d say the discovery is best for families and a luxurious car if you don’t care about its looks, but the defender is one of the best all-around cars that you can buy because it combines off-road prowess, a fun driving experience, and good technology

I've driven both... The Discovery is a better street SUV in almost every way. It rides smoother, the seats are more comfortable, it has better outward visibility in every direction, it's easier to get in and out of, and it's easier to load things into the back. And let's not forget the Disco is $10K cheaper than an equally equipped Defender 110. The Defender is cooler and has an optional V8, and that's enough of a reason for many people to buy one.

Defender!!!!!! This is more stylish than other vehicles in its class, but the Defender is iconic.

It’s a perfect balance between the Range Rover and the Defender. I’m glad they make it and think they should. They should get rid of all the little “Range Rover” models and just keep the full fledged and the Sport.

I have the Disco SE and I love it. I needed to have luxury that I could also go off road with. I hunt and have boat. Also travel as a family of 3 so luggage space important. The Defender feels more like a true off road, the aggressive styling is fantastic. Up in the air if I would use this for everyday use

They need to make the discovery look closer to its old boxier off-road rugged design. Maybe make it a little cheaper it would be the bronco sport to the Bronco for Land Rover they’d have the defender as the pricy off roader.

After recently test driving both, I would say the Discovery has a smoother ride. The Defender is good looking, but it drives more like a truck.

Intentionally rented one before buying a Defender. My 4-day experience with the Discovery completely turned me off of Land Rover. Thankful to know before buying!

I’ve owned 2 D5’s and own the current one. I looked at the Defender but found it was noisier, had a lot more wind noise, the 110 had terrible rear cargo space, the rear door was a pain in the ass, it didn’t handle as well on the road and wasn’t as comfortable. I’ve taken the D5’s off road and it’s never missed a beat. Each time I’ve been seduced by the Defender I’ve been let down by the driving experience and that idiotic rear door which has an opening size that is exactly the same dimensions as the Suzuki Jimny

The disco has a place in the line up i know two people that owned the disco traded it in for the defender to turn around and trade the defender back in for the disco. Both models have there place in the line up.

Can you review the Range Rover Evoque please 🙏🏼

I think they should keep discovery and move it towards a family car instead of an off-roader. Range Rover is the high luxury class, Defender is the off-roading class, and discovery should be the family luxury class. But all three models have been flagship models for Land Rover for years and I think once they get rid of one, people will just beg for them to come back.

They should keep it. All the company’s are going big on 3rd rows. They should redesign it and finally put the license plate in the center. Jeep has a Cherokee L, Grand Wagoneer and Grand wagoneer L. Land Rover has only 2 comfortable enough 3rd rows the discovery and Defender 130.

Are these really 2024s or 2023s like you did with the Range Rover Sport video ?

FYI. People cross the street whenever they want, not using the crosswalk or lights, in every city, town, municipality in America.

Kind of difficult to watch this video after seeing your more recent video on you selling your Defender because your wife no longer likes it or trusts it. I believe there is still a market for the Discovery imho.

Unfortunately you've missed the plot on this video a bit with your thinking they should get rid of the Discovery "they should not'. (you should have lead with the commentary at the 9 min mark, as the company should keep the nameplates but put them in their rightful positions - - Land Rover itself has moved the vehicles into the wrong category segments. The Defender should have remained the 'working vehicle' more spartan and more function forward. The Discovery should have stayed in the LR3, LR4 segment as a true off road capable vehicle but geared for more comfort and family function while enjoying those off road pursuits. It's a shame but the Defender should be stripped of 50% or more of its posh features and replaced with a more base, functional set of options. More utilitarian - It could come with a wench and nice recovery points, manual knobs and switches, cloth interior, etc. It should also have 18's not 20's (wheels) and much more tire. Whereas, the Discovery could have a bit larger wheel tire package and a more comfort and even maybe cool factor look. Just my thoughts

The Defender is much better, the Disco 5 now looks like every other Tom, Dick and Harry suv from other car companies all round and bubbled 🫧 out. The Disco 3 like the Defender has a nice boxy and roomy cabin! Cheers 🍻 🇺🇸

Range Rover makes the most unreliable lowest quality vehicles in the biz. Plastic under the hood galore.

For me my fav discovery was the 2015 model. When this model came out I disliked it.
