2024 Leapmotor C16 in-depth Walkaround
Leapmotor, a new energy Chinese brand established in 2015, has rapidly gained prominence in the automotive industry. Last year, it entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with Stellantis, the world's fourth-largest automaker, creating Leapmotor International, a joint venture. There have been reports indicating that Leapmotor plans to expand its presence in Poland and Malaysia.
The Leapmotor C16 is built on the Leap 3.0 architecture and showcases the brand’s latest design language. It features a closed front end with distinctive headlights, retractable door handles, and a single taillight unit. The C16 is notable for its substantial dimensions, measuring 4915 mm in length, 1905 mm in width, and 1770 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2825 mm-5 mm longer than the wheelbase of the Aito M7 from Huawei and Seres. The vehicle's overhangs measure 947 mm at the front and 1143 mm at the rear, with approach and departure angles of 19 and 21 degrees, respectively.
The Leapmotor C16 offers both BEV and EREV powertrain variants. The BEV variant is equipped with a single synchronous permanent magnet electric motor (TZ220XY008), delivering a peak power of 215 kW (288 hp) and enabling the vehicle to reach a top speed of 160 km/h. The EREV variant features a 1.5-liter H15R naturally aspirated internal combustion engine (ICE) that generates 70 kW, functioning as a generator. This variant also includes a single electric motor producing 170 kW (228 hp).
The EREV variant is powered by a 28.4-kWh LFP battery from CALB, providing a driving range of up to 134 km on a single charge. While the battery capacity for the BEV variant has not yet been disclosed, it is known to be an LFP battery supplied by Zenergy.
