2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata - ND3 Rush Hour Commute

My 2023 MX-5, combined highway/city mpg has been as high as 44.2 mpg. When I get on it, it drops down to 36~38 mpg. On a 3-hour trip to Myrtle Beach, I've gotten as high as 43.8 mpg. These cars are addictive. Oh, forgot to say, this '23 is my 2nd one, the 1st one was totaled back in January. Yes, I was driving it at the time. A woman hit me doing an estimated 55 mph and ran a red light. I'll be going to orthopedists for the next year they say. It's hell getting in and out of the car now, but I have to, I'm addicted!

I just want to give Mazda a shoutout for designing are really lovely looking engine bay. I mean, seriously, just look at it compared to something like the GTI without plastic cover.

I just bought a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness. Great car, but a little boring. I took it (with only 583 miles on it) and traded it this afternoon for a 2024 MX5 RF in Zircon Sand. Maybe it's because I'm 68 and figure if I didn't do it now, I would never do it. I traded a Jeep Rubicon for the Crosstrek, so this MX5 is a huge departure from what I have driven in the past. My late wife and I had a Z3 a Z4 and Boxster, a 325i and a 911, and honestly not even the 911 was more fun to drive than my new MX5. I'll be the old guy with the smile plastered on his face going down the road. WooHoo!!!

I've got a 23 RF GT. It's an amazing little car. It really does benefit from an exhaust, the stock exhaust was hard to hear on the highway with the top down over the wind noise. But otherwise Mazda did a wonderful job putting this car together. I have no real complaints and thoroughly enjoy every single time I start it up. The manual is a dream to operate and the clutch is super light. It's a perfect manual to teach someone to drive a 6 speed or to drive in heavy traffic. Not many cars can be so widely appreciated IMO. I had ND1 for 3 years the same color, 2.0 manual. Loved it, drove it on snow in winters. One car that I think I will buy again!

Always been a Ford Mustang type of guy since i was a little kid, but these Miatas are also one of my favorite cars ever, and theyre in my opinion underrated! Miata is always the answer!

I'm really loving everything about the ND3! I refuse to test drive it because then I'll have to buy it and i can't afford it right now 😅

Even knowing it's been around 8 years, this car has not aged a day. It helps that most other cars on the road are bloated SUVs while this is one of the very last lightweight, low slung sports cars a normal person can afford. If I didn't already own an NA, I'd be fixing to get a lightly used ND2. You can tell the team that worked on this car poured their heart and soul into it.

I noticed that everyone only ever mentions the wireless Apple Car Play but never mentions that it's also wireless Android Auto, just sayin... Also it's not just the arm rest, the additional padding next to the driver's right knee is a welcome addition. I say this as an owner/daily driver of a 24 MX-5 (I DD a 22 for 2 years). Steering and diff was an excellent improvement.

I love Mazda’s Soul Red, just so nice, sadly have yet to see the Artisan Red on the CX-90 though.

I think you have the thinking behind the cupholders backwards: with a passenger, BOTH are meant to be in the center console (seeing as how passenger space is at a premium). It’s when you’re driving solo that the passenger side cupholder comes into play!

I have a 23’ Miata and I will be driving this thing until it literally falls apart. I have never driven a car as fun as this.

The bass is surprisingly good for an open top. Normally the speakers utilise the sealed nature of the car's cabin for bass.

It's not the center console lid that got more padding. They just stitched the surrounding center console, although it doesn't have padding. There is however more padding next to the driver's right knee on a different plastic piece in front of that stitched console

They're all good, but my love for NCs surpasses all. ❤

Moving the cup holder to the passenger side is actually meant for the driver to reach easier; hence why it’s close to the shifter if needed.

Taking the clubs out of the bag and packing the golf bag and clubs separately might work

This car is proof that fast isn’t everything. I drove an ND1 and a Tesla model 3 performance back to back and the MX5 was A LOT more fun to drive.

this car is very nice. I want to purchase one next year. I was thinking about this, or Supra or Z, but the other ones are quite a bit more money, especially since you can get all the bells and whistles on this and it would still be less than the other two. I really want the brown interior however that isn't offered with the red candy color.

1:50 Hello Topher, you're a bit mistaken. On ND1 and ND2 the LSD used to cause roll oversteer when doing "time attack" on the racetrack in long curves. That was dangerous and lost time. But if you want to make it drift actively, not passively, you still can with DSC off. You should really watch the video of Keiichi Tsuchiya the Master drifter, when he did test drive the MX-5 at Tsukuba circuit. He criticized the LSD and the soft suspension. The video is on the channel of "Best Motoring" the famous Japanese video magazine on RU-vid. It is a grey RF MX-5, the video was shot in 2019 i think. Let me know your impressions? Have a good day.

An ND is a perfect fun daily driver so as long as you don't mind the lack of storage space and the noise, heat/cold, and smell of being exosed to the elements. I did a 400mi trip with 1 month of clothes and belongings all crammed in the car, top down, in the middle of the winter. I can also barely fit three tires in the passenger seat and 1 sticking out a bit in the trunk, just have some tiedowns handy and swapping tires is no issue. I really don't recommend convertible haters this car though. You'll be miserable no matter what. Juts buy a proper coupe, an RF is no substitute. But if you're open to the top down-experience, there really isn't anything that can beat the enjoyment sitting in stop go traffic with the scorching sun beating down on you. :)

Not a fan of soft-top convertible's, but love the MX-5 Miata & would go with a 6-MT RF version - but would never open the roof on it probably.

I sold my 23, regrettably. My wife hated how small it was, and I hated how uncomfortable the GT seats were. I might get another one in future generations though. Otherwise it's a 10/10.

Superb car, but “third facelift” of this generation!? Not really. It’s an ND, with a few very small tweaks. Most people would not be able to see the difference between a ‘23 and ‘24.

Now if Mazda would just give us some more color options. 😕

I had a Miata hardtop. Getting out on the highway around big semi‘s, and everything was the least favorite aspect of that car. I have a C8 now. Where it actually reigns supreme on the highway. I miss the Miata, but man I would never want to get hit by a big truck.
