Hey! Historically prices of the pre facelift MK8 model will drop a fair amount. I have a video going live tonight with a great MK8 Golf. For sure there will be deals to be had with the facelift MK8.5 immeniant. When I purchased my MK7 Golf R virtually new ex demo 3 months old I had almost £10,000 off due to the MK7.5 model being released. 7 years on and still loving that car 👍
@SamAustin that's perfect mate thanks I stumbled on your videos since I'm super close to biting the bullet on the mk8 golf r but if the mk8.5 is only a few months away and I'll save a decent chunk of money then it might be worth waiting haha
@@HtheKinglet’s just say MK7.5’s hold their value a bit better than MK7’s. So I’m sure the MK8.5 will hold its value better than the MK8. I’m more so wondering what kind of haggle room I will have with MK8.5’s from dealers. I’m not interested in the MK8 version due to it’s infotainment and steering wheel haptic touch buttons, but now that COVID has been over for some time, and production is getting a lot better and faster, will dealers give deals on the MK8.5’s? If so, I just might be interested in the MK8.5 Golf R. But that will definitely depend on price. I’m not interested in paying over $50k for a Golf, even in the R version. That’s just stupid to me. I’d rather just continue to drive my MK7 GTI and not worry about a car payment.
I think that once everything is set up to your liking, you will hardly touch the infotainment. . . so you will be left with an oversized, largely redundant distraction of a screen that looks out of place, the driving instruments should be the dominant feature of the cockpit. Volkswagen have already backtracked on the steering wheel buttons, so let’s see how long before the infotainment screen is integrated back into the centre console where it belongs. . . just my opinion, well you did ask 😎
I think opposite tbh after being in many newer cars with the bigger screens like the new mercs. Most customers do not even use the manufacturers software on the screen, they connect apple car play or android auto, and once you connect this the bigger screen is better for navigation since you have more screen real estate for maps.
Disagree. I touch my infotainment screen all the time on my MK7 GTI, as well as all other buttons such as traction control, climate, heated seats, etc. To have all of these buttons integrated into the infotainment screen will make me use the infotainment screen in the MK8/8.5 even more than I already would, which would be very annoying.
Wow what can I say loving the new old steering wheel!! Buttons at last + the new big screen looks a lot better so I'm definitely looking forward for you to get your hands on the golf 8.5 let alone the GTI or the R!!😃 Nice little teaser video Sam of the new system!!👌🏻👍🏻
Looks good but how dose it fit in with all these new mobile phone electronics devices use while driving? I just done a course (I’m a HGV driver) & trainer said you can’t even touch sat nav while driving & there’s new cameras on M1 filming you to see if your touching your phone or not wearing your seat belt
Screen is too big, prefer the size of the pre facelift mk8 golf. We already spend all our lives looking at screens, the last thing i want is for my car to also have screens.
It is the largest screen Volkswagen offer and you can get smaller screen versions. It is large but actually compared to the likes of manufacturers like Polestar's large screens, which I have also tried, it actually feels about half the size of the Polestar which I quite like. You certainly do not need a bigger screen than this 15" one....it feels like the limit to me but I would like to try it more on the move in the future 👍
Not a fan of the buttons i much prefer the haptic buttons everyone moans they touch then by mistake. Ive had mine 2 yrs now and i think i touched them twice by mistake and thats only when im not holding the wheel properly
@JacesOwnWorld do you wish we still had old Nokia 3310 phones with buttons? Or do you prefer the smartphone. It's called moving with the times . Progression is key
One of my favorite things about my MK7 GTI is the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel. With a press of a button, it will increase the mph up to, or down to, the nearest 5 increment. So if your set at 40mph, with that button press (only pressed once), you can go straight up to 45mph, or straight down to 35mph. No need to press the button 5 times to do it. But even cooler is there is another button that is used for the +/- 1 increments too. And each button is integrated so intuitively that’s it’s just super nice and convenient. Is this function on the MK8 version? If so/not, will it be on the MK8.5 version?
I also enjoy this feature on my 2017 MK7 Golf R. From my understanding it is the same on the MK8 in terms of the increments however without trying the MK8.5 I am unsure currently so I will have to try one to find out. Also, very much love your Blue Golf GTI 6-Speed Manual! Looks very special and such an amazing colour 🎉
Hi Sam, it would be nice to see what it looks like with the standard screen and how well that works, the 15 inch will be an option ,I'm excited to see the 8.5 ,just hope it's not a disappointment, it will be expensive tho, especially after seeing how much the face-lift S3 will cost in the uk,scary!
Good video Sam. While it's all very clever I'm not a huge fan. To much to distract you when driving. We all know it's easy to accidentally hit a touch screen and end up on another menu.. Plus what happened to integrated design? Can you increment the heating by 0.5 degrees as per the mk7.5? Buttons back on the steering wheel is a thumbs up, what took them so long! No diesel in the passat for the UK, big mistake.
Thank you for the positive feedback. I know what you mean and personally I see it as something to really use whilst static rather than on the move although I would need to try it more whilst driving to get a full impression. It is funny you should say about the integrated design of the MK8 as I spent around 3 hours in the pre-facelift MK8 Black Edition, a video coming next on my channel, and I really enjoyed using the infotainment along with the actually design look during my time with it. It has grown on me. Yes plenty of UK legislation around cars is affecting the line up of what manufacturers can sell unfortunately. A Diesel Passat would be fantastic in the UK although the 1.5 Petrol was really nice in the model I spent time with 👍
My main concern with the extra large infotainment screen is how bright it would be when driving at night. Unless VW has a distinct dimming switch for the Infotainment screen one will need to dim the entire interior instrument panel to prevent illuminating of driver and passengers for all to see when driving.
