Good to bad to ugly.
The the start and first lap were good. Got the early lead and put down a decent first lap, albeit rather conservative in the dust. I did not want to get surprised and run into another fence like last time!
The 2nd lap was the bad lap. I got a big glob of sweat and dirt inside my goggles that covered up my left eye so I was only using the right side of my goggles for the most part. I didn't think I slowed down that much but I apparently did! Joe caught me and I didn't even put up a fight. Just let him around and tried to keep up. I was going back and forth with my goggles, but ultimately decided to take them off when I went by my pits. With clear vision I realized how slow I was was going before!
Going into the 3rd lap I picked it up quite a bit and started reeling his dust cloud in a little at a time. Unfortunately, shortly into the 3rd lap my fence issues in dusty races continued (I'm 2 for 2 now). This time, not so much my fault (or the club). An old barbed wire fence was dug up in the trail and I was the lucky one to wrap it around my rear wheel. It was wrapped tight enough and enough times I knew I was done. It took a solid hour to get it out. I had to hike around the woods a bit to find a suitable branch to wrap it up and then yank it out a little at time. I managed to get it free just as the sweep riders were coming through and I decided to have fun and check the bike over by finishing my lap.
Oh well! Glad I'm not racing points this year! Bike and rider live to race another day!
