I was excited to get my hands on the new 2024 MSI Raider 18 HX at CES 2024! This is the replacement to the Raider GE78HX from last year. Gone is the 17" display in favor of a new 18" 16:10 aspect ratio, 120Hz 4K Mini-LED display, which should be a great option for those of you that crave high resolution gaming display with high refresh rate. It has a brand new design and chassis with a lot of similarities to its bigger sibling, the Titan 18 HX. MSI updated the cooling system, new speakers for audio, and the move to Intel i9-14900HX, and this seems to be a formidable gaming laptop with a great screen.

MSI's design for their 2023 lineup should have won award for ugliest designs of the year, especially the Titan GT77HX. That laptop was an ugly beast😂. 2024 design is looks really fine but only if they had used it for their 2023 lineup as well. Good they made this change.

While i like the flatter look as opposed to the V shape stuff on the backside of the screen panel, I don't care for all this red or blue plastic stuff on the pc vents & stuff, because it's a permanent scheme. Better if they just went rgb instead of being stuck with a stagnant paint color. RGB has options for diff colors & the red marks on the back of the MSI Raider 18HX is just MEH, & not everyone even likes red or blue or whatever anyways. Same goes for the blue parts on this MSI Titan 18HX. And an rgb touchpad replaces the front rgb bar? ? really? ? We don't even need a touch pad in the first place lol So... eh... I prefer last years designs over these models. So, I disagree with you.... Why would anyone want to be stuck with one color on the small parts on the pc. It's just going to BE there forever unless you paint yourself. I don't think anyone likes having a specific color forced upon them & plus it makes it look so mis-matched with the rgb that IS on it. Imagine if you want ur rgb set to green or something. You just got this ONE color on the pc COMPLETELY throwing the scheme off. So, stupid.

MSI’s design team couldn’t have implemented a 2560 x 1600 Mini LED 240hz screen like other laptop brands on the Raider 18 HX disappointing.

It makes it look like a toy. Most of the machine looks great, but the gamer esthetics just make it look cheap.

@@TechnicolorTube I agree. It looks stupid. On top of that. It's unfair to have ONE specific color forced upon you. Not everyone even likes red or whatever, & tends to make the pc look mis-matched with the rgb as well. This is why we have rgb in the first place. You can set the external color scheme of your pc to whatever U want & even with effects as well & it can be seen in the dark obviously, where as painted plastic can't be seen in the dark, & 9 times out of 10, you're doing things in the dark anyways. Especially gaming lol,... This red non-sense or the blue on the MSI Titan 18HX as well is just going to be something you're stuck with unless you paint or plasty-dip over it yourself or something lmao

Why doesn't MSI advertise G-sync, Free-Sync, or VRR on any of their devices? Do any MSI laptops come with Free-sync?

MSI used to but dropped G-Sync/VRR from all laptops after the GT75 back in 2018. They've never given an explanation or made a single statement on why they stopped supporting the tech. Nor do any of their machines offer Advanced Optimus.

Thank you for letting me know. There must be some cost/complexity associated with getting a panel G-Sync/Free-sync verified. Otherwise, I can't see a reason MSI would stop including it. I won't buy any high-end portable computer without VRR/G-sync myself. Hope they change.@@killerra

@@TechnicolorTube MSI also charges the most outside of Razer, they have no excuse to not at least have G-Sync in the Raider and Titan laptop lines.

None of the MSI laptops have g-sync/freesync as far as I know, except the MSI Claw having VRR

Having a 4K display that will make maintaining high frames difficult and not including G-Sync to smooth out the 60-120fps experience really stupid. MSI is pushing 4K for the bullet point on the marketing sheet instead of what is best for the gamers who will be using it. 2560x1600/240Hz is so obviously the correct choice, I just don't understand what has happened to MSI.

They are now one of if not the most useless and overpriced gaming laptop brand out there. They're always making a downgrade instead of upgrade every year. They went from 144Hz refresh rate to 120Hz like who even brought that idea. 120Hz in 2024? On a high end gaming laptop? And who plays games at 4K on a laptop? No VRR, No G-sync, No advanced optimus. Such a waste🚮

May need to edit this video soon as that Raider 18 HX A14V doesn’t have an 18” 120Hz UHD+ 4K Mini-LED display, it only has a 18” 240Hz QHD+ (2560x1600) IPS display Only the 2024 Titan 18 HX A14V has the 18” 120Hz 4K Mini-LED display Take note the Titan 18 HX A14V also offers a total power output of 275 watts (175w with GPU, 95w with CPU), whereas Raider 18 HX offers 250 watts of combined CPU/GPU power I’m only going by the MSI website, this particular model isn’t on there at all.

These gaming laptop manufacturers will put one thing and remove another year after year. They went from 144Hz in 2023 to 120Hz in 2024 whereas other manufacturers have at least 165Hz and up to 240Hz refresh rates on their display. I don't know who brought the idea of lower refresh rate. Plus they could've replaced that 4K display with 2560x1600p like other laptop manufacturers. Who games at 4K on a laptop🤔

How are Acer and ROG the only brands that can offer a good gaming laptop with a QHD+ 2560 x 1600 Mini LED 240hz/250hz display and no other laptop brand can offer this fast of a refresh rate in a 2k screen with an overall excellent functioning laptop. Like c’mon Lenovo, Razer, Dell/Alienware and MSI.
