What grade would you give NASCAR on FOX in 2024?

I have a step sister who use to work for FOX Sports and she believes that they're just in it for the money. For the commercial breaks "Breaks equals revenue."

As a fan of Truex, that clip of him coasting across the finish line yesterday as the crowd was chanting, "Go! Go! Go! Go!" as they erupted in cheers gave me chills

what i think of is my granddad who got me into racing, he lost his sight in his 60's and still had the race on tv every sunday, everytime the announcers lazily don't describe the action or lay out for 2 minutes i think of him or any other older blind fans trying to enjoy the race

I think Harvick was a great addition to the booth, kinda acted like a bridge between Joy & Bowyer

I’d give it a C- Harvick was the only main positive you can look at this season. I think the booth itself is not the problem. They were all good this year and bowyer was much better. The problem is all the inexcusable things Fox still does that we have beat a dead horse with. Random taking commercials with 8 laps to go. Panning away from good battles on track to focus in on the crowd and taking like 10 seconds to pan over when there was a crash or a controversy on track or pit road. Good thing for Fox is we had a lot of magical moments this season on Fox

D- to an F- only the booth was good. The production and camera crew OML I have absolutely no words🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🙄🙄🙄! Cut a lot of the commercials as well.

I don't watch many races live any more (mostly just Daytona & Dega), but 2 things stick out to me. The amount of super zoomed in close shots on maybe 1-2 cars when there are 5 cars possibly battling for the same spot happen waaay too often. Also I haven't seen any one else mention this (so it could be a personal issue), but I am not a fan of having 1/4th of the screen blocked by the standings/ticker. There has to be a better way so that we aren't potentially missing action behind an opaque standings graphic.

The volume of missed track events and commercials is bad but my biggest pet peeve is the driver tracker on the left. It stays at 1-20 forever then eventually goes to 11-20, 21-30, 31-last but it flies through them. Plus it seems completely random when it does. Maybe it's a Sonoma thing but the interval between drivers was all over the place.

Fox cut the 600 short

I’ve turned off races when they start the commercials every 3 mins. I know it’s not a fair comparison but skysports shows the F1 races with no breaks, even their Indycar coverage has their own announcer during breaks on NBC. Even here in Canada it’s the same damn 5 commercials, that have nothing to do with a NASCAR audience.

The best NASCAR broadcasts were the 80's & 90's by ESPN with Bob Jenkins, Benny Parsons & Ned Jarrett in the booth with Dr, Jerry Punch, John Kernan and Bill Weber. That's the formula that needs to be copied today.

Worth noting that Leigh Diffey will be taking Rick Allen's place after the Olympic break. Also, Chris Myers is just terrible as well, he has no poker face, he just looks completely uninterested in what he's doing and we all can tell. Very weird that he is still covering Nascar.

Race hub literally ends tomorrow, I will try to watch

Tbh I don’t think anyone watched race hub anymore since the early 2010s on speed when there was actually care put into it. I feel like Steve Byrnes passing really had a part in the nascar on fox decline. I don’t blame fox for cutting race hub because of its lack of care but I do think nascar needs there own streaming service that houses practice and qualifying and the race broadcasts from all 3 series and also put up their own version of race hub on RU-vid or on their own streaming service if it ever happens

I think I hated most about Fox this year was the first couple races they would do Crank It Up during pitstops instead of when the cars are on the track

Completely agree that Fox treats the broadcast the same was as 20 years ago but things have changed considerably since then with streaming and so many more options available. Too many commercials, coming back from a commercial to show full screen promotion for something, commercials after just a few laps etc. Also coming back from commercials and showing side stuff /fluff stuff instead of showing live racing is infuriating.

I'm hoping that the new Cup network coverage that starts next year really ups the competition with Fox, and forces them to up their game.

Yes, Joy is a step slower in certain aspects, but hell if I make it to his age, I hope I'm half as witty and remember that much of any past. My big thing with Fox wasn't the booth this year, it was the "production" / "director" / "camera" side of things. The booth would call things that the cameras totally missed, or just wouldn't show a reply on; would cut away to the wrong thing, and the post race coverage was complete ass. That isn't the booth, that's higher levels.

I thought NASCAR on FOX was starting to improve a little bit better after the 2024 Daytona 500. Nope, of course not…. At least Mike Joy and Kevin Harvick were a good duo! Pit road reporting is still good, and… Bowyer wasn’t too bad? Congrats, Clint. Other than that, everything else is just, ugh….

I don't watch the races per se, but I do try to listen to them on the radio. And after doing some calculations on The Groovy gauge for Eric Estepp's Channel the races on Fox average at 70.29%, excluding The Clash.

Agree with pretty much all of the points made in this video. The Cup broadcasts were still similar to the past few years, although as you said it was good to finally have some consistency and I thought harvick was a good addition. The only thing that got a little bit old was Harvick consistently dunking on Clint. It’s funny from time to time but it got to the point where it almost felt forced. Xfinity was solid too. I think Adam Alexander is good, the only thing that bugs me about him is he falls in to the trap of where he just gets too goofy and too off track. Joey Logano being in the booth over and over again definitely wasn’t the best either, but I think he’d be okay if he also is able to tone down the silliness The Truck broadcasts continue to be absolutely nauseating to sit through. The Little/Paraons/Waltrip booth is like the group of kids in school working on a project together that constantly get distracted and can’t go more than 30 seconds straight staying focused. Phil Parsons is good, but Jamie Little falls into the same a category as Vince Welch where they’re really good pit reporters but just don’t have what it takes to be in the booth. And Michael Waltrip… you should make a whole video about him alone and how awful he is. Couple all that in with as you said the terrible camera angles, transitions, checking to see how Daniel Dye’s doing in 17th, kids in the stands, pit reporters asking drivers questions or telling them things that have nothing to do with racing, etc. I hope Fox can improve in the next TV deal because post-COVID, it’s really been sad to see the decline and lack of care displayed by Fox. I think even ESPN and their ladder part of the years where they didn’t even care about NASCAR did a better job than Fox did the past few years especially this year which was terrible.

I think Nascar should sellout to one of the major streaming platforms like Peacock or Netflix. There are so many commercials during green flags and then you add cautions onto that and it’s hard. Going to commercial under green is the one thing I can’t wrap my head around.

I really enjoyed Kevin Harvick in the booth. Having someone fresh out of the sport in the booth really provided more prospective than previous years.

I think the booth is not the problem when it comes to Fox as they did a decent job. The biggest issue with Fox is the production quality which is absolutely terrible. I agree with Iceberg that Fox's coverage has not evolved at all very similar to how ESPN covered Indycar during the final decade they had the rights. Speaking of Indycar, I really hope that Fox does not get the rights to Indycar because they would treat Indycar even worse than NASCAR which Indycar does not need (they already have enough problems as it is like Honda threatening to leave after 2026). Indycar needs to renew their deal with NBC or go to the CW so that every race is free on over the air TV & more fans can watch.

This is my first year watching nascar and I really enjoyed Joy, Boyer, and Harvick

BECAUSE in 2025 FOX is taking over coverage of the INDYCAR series, including the Indianapolis 500 & all the races will be on FOX, not their cable networks like FS1 How many NASCAR races are getting sacrificed to the FOX cable networks & how many races are gonna shown on the regular FOX channel? Gonna be really interesting next year with FOX’s racing coverage; both NASCAR & INDYCAR

ESPN's (or whoever's) coverage of F1 is premier. NBCs coverage of Indycar is really good too.

When it comes to a great broadcast, remember the great finishes from years ago? You remember what the announcers were saying as it happened, we had two count them two of the greatest finishes in Nascar history this year and the booth sounded so anti climactic during those. It’s a real shame man

The booth is great again. Pit reporters are great. The production and big event feel is lacking though. Watch NBC and it's taken more seriously.

Mike Joy is the GOAT. I love the chemistry between he, Clint, Kevin & Larry. They done a great job

It took Joy, MacReynolds, and DW 1 race to become amazing. It'll take 1-2 years to make Joy, Harvick, and Bowyer to be great.

And to be directly fair. I don't know about other countries, but I saw few different countries translations, and I can tell you that in most countries we see race in full length without commercials at all. So it doesn't affect international viewers at all

They need to put Jamie McMurray in the booth. I thought he was really good for the races He was in last year.

Aw like the truck broadcast, Jamie little always needed more time, Jamie Howe is great too Probably weakest moments this season in Xfinity (inviting truck drivers to the booth) and in Cup (long green flag runs and then struggling to fill the air, that one time clint was out of it for half a race and harvick joked about it, vegas was it). Xfinity was probably my favorite of their briadcast, Blaney (needs to be there more), Logano (needs to be permanent), and Kesselowski are my dream team, they're great.

As for the Xfinty and Truck side, Its also annoying when they shove their talent into a sound stage in Charlotte instead of sending them to the tracks. And for trucks, its only going to get worse as its going to be 3 people in a booth in charlotte just about every race. Another thing I have noticed is Fox has been getting REALLY lazy with their timing and scoring pylon. If the cup series isnt there, or road courses for stand alone trucks/xfinity, they just set up something at the start finish line. Meaning we only see where everyone truly is at the start finish line. And that is the only time we can see how close someone is to the leader. Yea we have eyes but I like numbers. And its annoying when we go from cup having decent timing scoring, to trucks where it doesnt do anything until the line. In general, its just broke. Sonoma had so many issues when they would get to turns 8-11 where cars would set off randomly and cause the pylon to switch drivers up 20 positions until the whole field cleared those timing lines. It just seems as if they got to a point, but because they are going to try to get Indycar races, they decided to just stop improving the fox broadcast. Everything has been the same since 2020. And its stale after 4 years of the same broadcast with nothing new but what mini segments you cover the racing action with.

Got that right. I stopped watching Nascar because of the commercials. Even baseball holds their commercials breaks to inning change, pitcher change, timeouts. Fox should take pointers from the MLB. Oh wait, they also host the MLB playoffs... They know how to show sports events, so why does Nascar get the short end... huh, fox. Goodbye, don't let the door .........on your way out.

My rating for FOX this year, 4/10. Credit where it's due, the booth were generally good, and the new pit-road segments where they actually highlight the members of pit-crews was a really good addition to the broadcast, but that's where the compliments end. Production overall was just bad, camera work was beyond a joke and the commercials seemed louder and more frequent.

The booth was solid, production was bad. Yeah they either took too long to cut to where something was happening, if they even cut at all. And the crowd zoom ins were too frequent to the point where it started to become weird. Regarding the commercials they were far too frequent and they were usually the same block of commercials too. Also really got sick of seeing the Fox Nation commercials. (And yes I would have the same reaction if NBC loaded their commercials with MSNBC ads).

My grade for each series on Fox: Cup C+, other two are F's, because I can't stand Alexander(and one or two guest Cup drivers), much have rather preferred like back in early 2000's(but with Joy, Harvick, Bowyer). As for Trucks, I'm surprised that Fox still continues after this year. Thought the series would go somewhere else.

outside of commercial revenue that Fox can bring in during their portion of the schedule I really wonder why Fox re-upped when it's not hard to tell they lost interest in Nascar over the last few years. On the booth Joy and Harvick were great and if I have to I can put up with Bowyer but whenever Joy retires I say you move Harvick to Joy's position keep Bowyer then for enthusiasm but bring in a a driver/ crew chief who can do the technical break downs like Larry Mac could do from the booth.

NBC Olympic coming up what we get like 6-7 races. Basically every race till the end I can actually watch

I really loved the booth this year and thought that Joy, Harvick, and Boyer absolutely saved the broadcast to a watchable point every week despite the production. I would give all 3 of them an A but I also do admit it is hard for me to not enjoy Mike Joy and we all want more personality from the drivers so I don't mind the Harvick/Bowyer dynamic between them. Yes it was a little too far once or twice, and credit to if I remember correctly Joy grabbing the reigns of the conversation in those moments and pulling us back to the race and on topic without much awkward dead air, I enjoyed the Harvick word of the day because that is just up my nerdy alley, and I honestly have nothing negative to say about the booth because as mentioned Harvick/Bowyer have about 9 months or so to work on their chemistry. With that said, on to production, I think this is arguably the worst job a production team has done to cover Nascar races, by any broadcasting group, not just FOX, ever, or at least since I have been watching since the early 2000's. As mentioned the amount of times we were getting told about something by Harvick or Bowyer, only to never see it live, or just a replay after the fact, and I felt like they just didn't show the right cars or battle going on almost all of the time of every race, and I have been watching long enough that I don't think it is the camera men and women who are to blame, we have seen time and time again over the years that Nascar camera operators are more than capable of getting at least a viewable angle of just about anything, so it to me must be whoever is choosing which camera to show, and whoever is telling these camera operators to look at a Kyle Larson shirt in the crowd every 10 laps, or follow around a car on its own lap a few laps down, etc. It was so bad that I found myself in the last 2 races at Sonoma and Gateway, through I would say the first half to maybe even 2/3 of the race doing something else while it was on the TV, like playing a video game, and just listening to the 3 in the booth because that is just about the same if not does a better job than watching it only to not see what was going on, and that is the first time I have ever really gotten to that point, outside of maybe a few minutes on my phone here and there and talking with others that I am watching it with, A cup race on the TV prior to the last few weeks has always had my undivided attention. Really disappointed in everyone involved behind the cameras outside of the actual camera operators themselves just doing what they are told.

I like the booth just fine. Everything else is subpar.

I had a trial for an hour or so on fox sports and I used it to watch some of the Daytona 500 and 70% of what I saw was adds and not good ones 😢

Yeah, when Clint and Kevin make comments about the lack of direction a fair amount while live. Maybe Clint should be the director, because whoever is current doing the job doesn't care.

I doubt they replace Mike with someone that is as knowledgeable as Mike is. Real shame because I love that part about Mike. I think it’s a great spot for Fox

My grade pretty much tracks with yours, although I’m a little more critical of Bowyer. His hee-haw-yee-haw carnival barking, cliche spouting is way past old. He seems to want to come off as the smartest guy on the broadcast when most of the time he comes off as the opposite. I like Harvick’s keeping Bowyer’s ego in check, especially when he needles him about not having driven the Next Gen car. One omission is Mikey’s cringey grid walks. It seems like most of the time the drivers look at him like he’s a crazy guy looking for his meds.

I watch the races live. I have my Playstation running and switch to that during commercial. WAY to many commercials. They appear to not cover Chase Elliott on purpose most of the time. I'm sure the haters are gonna hate. But he is the most popular driver. When Dale Jr was racing he was covered endlessly. Whoever is calling out what cameras to use and when is obviously on crack. Clint Boyer and the way he says Toyota drives me insane. Towyota...

FOX is treating NASCAR more like an entertainment property more than an actual racing series. I don't know what Phelps and company still see in this network when it's clear as day that FOX doesn't give two shits about the sport. They dropped NASCAR Race Hub and less races are now going to be broadcast on the primary network with cable taking the majority of that slice, not to mention that, in my opinion, I fully believe the directors are groomers since they love the kids so much, it's actually disgusting and uncomfortable to watch. I hope that the Prime streaming portion of the schedule will completely blow FOX out of the water. I really hope they do.

Production, camera angles and commercials. ironically three commercials as I tried to watch this video. But in all seriousness really bothered me to hear, usually Mike Joy, yelling about a spin or a wreck or a non wreck, that we had no clue about until later. Too much important stuff missed by what I assume is the bad camera angles but that may go back to production as well and finally the commercials are just out of hand. Nascar in itself is just a giant ad between cars, tracks etc and its getting harder and harder to know who is in what car but with commercials also thrown in every 3 or 4 minutes and then missing actual things on track happening because we are at a commercial break, ruins any excitement or momentum the race may have going for the viewer.

Too many commercials to justify watching at the bar, too few highlights to follow along at home on RU-vid. And wtf happened to radioactive? I only saw 2 or 3, that was my favorite thing. D-

remember a few years ago a random person tweeted that Fox was so shitty that it wasn't odd to them that Camping World had left, to which Marcus Lemonis liked that tweet so Fox was so awful that a sponsor left....a Sponsor, makes you wonder how many other sponsors left becasue of how bad Fox was

If it was possible, I'd give Fox a F- They are just calling it in at this point. When the booth calls out action and the cameras are nowhere near it... and on top of that Bowyer CALLING THEM OUT... you prove you just DGAF.

The good that the re-energized booth brought to the table was quickly dashed by production dropping a colossal shit on the table so hard that it broke. -Richmond missing the restart and refusing to call out either hamlin for jumping or their own producers for missing it, also in richmond cutting to Uncle Joe struggling over the pit wall while Martin walled Larson into 1. -Sonoma xfinity and cup *immediately* cutting to in car cameras while battles are still going on *RIGHT BEHIND THE WINNER!* (Xfinity) or something big went wrong (cup). _Cutting the full screen to fans (mostly kids) in the stands,. -Zooming so far in that you could practically count the hairs on SVG's beard 2 laps in a row. - Just zoomed in *everything*. -The producers making Harvick say Gen Z shit no cap. Like no, you sound like my dad Harv. Just tell the producers "N-O" -Refusing to ditch the cartoons despite universal hatred of them. -Refusing to use the Macs anywhere but the Charlotte studio. -Trucks -Literally no post race anything. -Like 10 cameras at the track max? -Being bipolar as hell on if they want to put effort into pit stop coverage or not, sometimes they show the times, sometimes not, sometimes they show who took tires, sometimes not. -The commercials are so awfully paced. -Too many of the same commercials (I want to dropkick that damn Liberty Mutual baby)

Last year bowyer was annoying mostly with his constant repetition of some things. This year the booth did feel fresh and I enjoyed those 3 together in the booth. But yea fox is bad in the other ways

if fox loses larry and mike, they may as well just get lost. nothing else needs to be said.

And that sucks, because those of us, and overwhelming majority of us, they can't afford big cable plans, can no longer watch the cup series because USA is an added expense meaning you have to pay extra for that channel. Thank you Xfinity for screwing everything up.

D+ for FOX Sports this year while they tried some new things like showing us driver pit crews their common issues bleed through and its really noticable like how they only got 1 angle of Corey LaJoie flipping at Talladega or had a battle for the lead at Gateway and showed a fan for a split second and its evident that commentators and pit reporters are the ones who actually care about the broadcast. What they need to do or get rid of next year: -Jamie Little needs to be kept on pit road she's not cut out to be a commentator my ears bleed everytime she tries to make something sound exciting or when she butchers a call -Michael Waltrip is better doing gridwalk all I hear from him is something about Daniel Dye and how he's a great kid when the first thing that comes to my mind about him is when he kicked someone in the balls -More crank it up segments and it should mostly be on the racetrack I appreciate FOX for switching it up and having it on pit road sometimes but its more enjoyable on the racetrack -Clint Bowyer needs to at least not crack jokes all the time when its not necessary bc he makes being funny his entire personality -The camera crews actually need to be watching the track I don't mind them showing kids or fans when its not taking away from something interesting on the racetrack -Commercials need to seriously be cut down to where they're not every 10 laps bc I hate the commercials so much that I watch the international feed bc it goes uninterrupted for free -Cartoon driver portraits need to go most of them just look weird or straight up bad and I'd rather see real driver pictures from production day that they do in January rather than the ugly comic drawings -Highlighting driver pit crews was something that was a nice touch this year and should come back -I can understand not having enough time in the TV window for some interviews but I want to hear more drivers instead of just the winner and 2nd place finisher
