12 team field would be incredible to prevent upsets over UCLA and UC Irvine from causing both wild cards to be taken

I think it's absolutely ridiculous that there can't be more teams in the tournament, this year for men's ball I saw many upsets and shocking top teams losing to teams lower than them, I think there should be way more teams and new programs would have the opportunity to have a chance to compete, I feel like this would bring more attention and viewers to the sport since mens vball is on the rise and men's volleyball deserves to be represented and talked about just how the women's game is

It’s simple. Money. Men’s volleyball is just not popular enough.

@@jaimesantos1170 so far .. but how is it that GCU is such a strong contender? Club VB across the country has become much more 'normal'- an expansion from the already very popular 'girls' vb club system. Elite physical high school athletes (height, agility) from regions of the nation that historically had ~no VB exposure are now getting the essential training and experience to be recruited & compete by their sophomore year.

@@jaimesantos1170 and that's just it my friend. GCU was ~never on the map during my college or ~younger years. But suddenly, they're able to recruit high enough caliber talent to beat (alleged) #1 UCLA ... the only way for that to happen is that there are 'kids' all across the country who are talented and physically gifted AND .. getting the training & competition to have a collective team & be real contenders. pretty cool!

Not Gonna be a tough tournament without Hawaii

The way this bracket is set is so arbitrary. How are Fort Valley St and Belmont Abbey, teams that have AFAIK not beaten a *single* team ranked in the top 20-30 automatically in the quarter finals, displacing more deserving teams (Hawaii, BYU, Stanford, USC) ?! I understand you're trying to spread volleyball, etc, but this is not a fair way to do it. There is no way either of these teams are going to advance past the first round. Here's a better way to do it: Add two rounds to these playoffs. Let the weaker teams (e.g, Fort Vally and Belmont Abbey) play one another in the first round. The winner earns the right to play Hawaii or BYU, etc, in the second round and the winner of *that* match gets to play in the quarter finals.
@jaimesantos1170
@jaimesantos1170 14 дней назад
Do you understand how the tournament works? Teams are divided into conferences based on their location. The winner of that tournament goes to the ncaa. Hawaii, byu Stanford and usc didn’t win their respective conferences. Belamont and fort valley did.

@@jaimesantos1170 So, the goal for a sleeper is to be located where there's no 'highest level' competition!
@jaimesantos1170
@jaimesantos1170 13 дней назад
@@timc3639 the goal is the national championship. Again “national”. So the tournament gets the best teams of each location. So if you didn’t win your conference then you don’t deserve to win the national tournament to begin with. The sport’s popularity is not even all over the country. But if the sport is to grow, you need to give more chances. Also the conferences are based on location. You cannot have Hawaii participating on the eastern conferences because they are located on the west. It will be logistically difficult for them and people in the eastern conference.
@hankakah4180
@hankakah4180 13 дней назад
@jaimesantos1170 Again, "NATIONAL", DO YOU understand what that means? In March Madness, there are Conference Champions and then at-large berths, but there are many conferences over a game that's been played for decades. Volleyball has been a West Coast game from the 70s. The top 29 teams were mostly from CA. To create more interest in the game, the NCAA CREATED a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP where they had teams from the East, Midwest, South, and West. An example of this is how FL would go through their schedule 20-0, Penn St. as well, Nebraska, would go through their conferences easily as they could easily get the best recruits by claiming they go to the Final Four every year. The Top 20 CA teams and Hawaii had to fight each other to send 1 team, and maybe 1 at large. Sure, the game has gotten bigger with 64 teams in the NC, but it was a cost of the smaller schools that can no longer field competitive women's teams and discarded their teams they no longer field. Usual power house teams like Long Beach St., Pacific, Hawaii, can no longer get top recruits against the big money conferences where they offer $40K tuition a year scholarships compared to the lower $10K a year scholarship schools. They are now doing it with the men's NC. Screw over the normally powerhouse teams in the west so teams from Major Conferences can get more NATIONAL Champions. So the Ohio St, Penn St, Stanford can offer top recruits $40K tuition scholarships. How's that working out? The Big 10, Big 12, Pac 10 can't even have enough teams in their own CONFERENCE, and yet they go to the NC. The Big West formed their own Conference as they left the MSPF and ALL 6 teams were ranked in the top 20, 3 of their teams were in the Top 5 and would beat other Conference leaders. Yet these are small schools, not Major Conference teams. It's like having a LaCrosse NC, or a Hockey NC, but to spread the sport to the west, let teams from CA or HI go to the Final Four till they get good enough to be there. I would like to see Hawaii win a Ice Hockey National Champion, that would be cool! Or is the NCAA more about money going to MAJOR Conferences first so the NCAA can make more money off of the lucrative broadcasts of the games? Money talks and stays that way!

I find the ranking of UCLA as the #1 seed as a sleight to Grand Csnyon, and Long Beach St. The Big West had all 6 teams ranked in the top 20, the MPSF barely. For UCLA to lose their conference tournament but still be ranked over GCU who beat them sure sounds political to me. GCU's 4 losses were to Big West teams. When the two broadcasters mention UCLA's 20 National Championships wins shows how political this is!

Hawaii fans are loyal, well-educated volleyball enthusiasts. Fans from Stanford, BYU, as re nasty for name calling and bullying tactics. UH fans have been fans since the 70's for both women and men's teams, Don't try and generalize a team's fans based on your lack of knowledge, you become the "nasty" one. As the female ESPN2 broadcaster said about the UH fans who traveled to CA they travel well, they are loyal and supportive, and with fans like that, if she could go back in time, she would have played for UH.
