Watched some more TJ Tampa since I posted this and his tackling is not a positive lol. Wouldn’t affect where I have him on my rankings but thought I’d come back to that point.
Mitchell definitely doesn't fit in Detroit. Zone cover corner, doesn't want to tackle in the run game. Yup Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell got it right with Arnold and Rakestraw. 2024 Superbowl bound. Go Lions.
Mitchell wouldn't be able to play for the Lions. You don't want to tackle, you don't fit. I know all the GMs say the guy they drafted in the first round is the guy they wanted all along. But Holmes said Arnold and Rakeshaw were their top two corners coming out. Could be, but I'm inclined to believe it, at least about Arnold. Arnold said in an interview the other day, that the Lions told him when they worked him out, that they didn't think he would be there when they picked, but, if something happened and he dropped to near where they were to pick, they were going to come up and get him. So that sounds like their top CB to me.
Wouldn’t shock me at all if Arnold was CB1 for the Lions. He was my CB 1B alongside Mitchell for a while. I think them saying that Rakestraw was their CB2 all along is because of the fact that they ended up picking him, however it wouldn’t shock me if he was a top 5 CB on their board.
Arnold is a good fit for the Lions defense. They want to play man outside not zone. Arnold fits that mold. Also both Arnold and Rakestraw are good run defense tacklers. That is a must in the Lions defense. The Lions got these two rookies to do just that. I don't think Rakestraw was #2 on their CB list, but he was well worth drafting at 61 and a great value there. He adds quality at a position of real need. He is also a willing tackler, you gotta do that to play slot in the Lions scheme which is where they are putting him in rookie camp.
