Jett was a sneak pick. Hype was there just not put out in the media because teams thought they could get away with getting him late. The D we’ve acquired have promise based on film, and acquiring a possible 3rd first round pick in a better draft class next year, that’s playing chess while knowing the reality of where the team is right now. Pure GM move. All yall would be forcing picks for a team that isn’t ready to win yet, and you’d be failing. Also, picking prospects just to trade them tarnishes your reputation amongst players current and upcoming. Trust needs to be precedented. Danny 🤝🏼 Jonesy 🤝🏼 a rebuild for long lasting success.
@@nicolasanderosky8387 I was saying when we traded our 32nd pick to Edmonton, we got a conditional 2025 or 2026 first round pick, and if it ends up being in 2025, we will have 3 first round picks in the 2025 draft.
Flyers drafted by organizational needs in a weak draft not a big deal next year in a strong draft they will go back to drafting by best player available
@@tonylouie4429 I agree but it could be way worse luchanko is a good prospect he was expected to go 19-20 it seems like they tried to trade back further but nobody was interested in 13 considering who was left on the board
@@LukeRyanReese21 A lot of people had Buium in their top 5 and he miraculously fell to them at 12. They still need a number 1 defenseman. They're not done building their defense, or at least they shouldn't be anyways. I don't see how it could be worse when you pass on one of the top talents in the draft to reach on someone. It's NEVER worked out for the Flyers in my lifetime so far. Maybe Briere and Jonsey are just levels above everyone else though.
@@asphaltcowboy7567lmfao that's not true at all, not even in the slightest... literally every legitimate hockey guy thinks so. Keep drinking the arm chair GM koolaid 😂
People that have been watching the game a long time have the right to not like some of these picks. People shouldn't be crucified for disagreeing with the Luchanko pick. Were people in the erong when they questioned the Morin, Rubtsov and O'Brien picks too? Passing on Buium could end up haunting us for years.
Absolutely. Other than that, I think they had a fine draft. They clearly were punting to next year's class. I think that's evident given Jett and their second second-rounder don't turn 18 until mid-August. Basically, they're both 4-6 weeks away from being in the 2025 draft class. I think Buium would've been my pick. Maybe the Gauthier debacle left a bad taste in their mouths. I mean, 11 other teams passed on him too -- despite elite production as a freshman. Most notably, the Parekh selection at 9. Still, THIS early in the rebuild, I think I'd have taken a chance on Buium. Why they have so much confidence in Drysdale drives me mad. However, we MUST not forget how elite the 2022 class was by the Flyers. Obviously, we lucked into Matvei. Beyond him, though, Bonk was a "reach" until he had a breakout year. They got two athletic, big goalies who are on the younger side. The Russian was terrific; Bjarnasson was more mediocre. One of them absolutely could be our starting goalie in 3-5 years. To boot, they got Barkey with pick 90-something. They value speed on the offense, which I love. Jett is young; let's give him time. Despite writing all that, Jett really does seem like a more intriguing version of Rubtsov. But he's way faster and more dynamic with the puck on his stick. Oh, if I were you, I wouldn't mention O'Brien and Jett in the same sentence. Jett was gonna be a top-20 pick, even if we'd taken Buium. Will Jett's ceiling ever be more than a great 3C? I'm not sure. Youth and speed for a centerman is quite rare. If he can work on his shot even a little, and has a breakout 2024-25 season in OHL, he could help our depth down the line. No one would argue Bonk was a great selection, despite being a "reach" a year ago. I'll end with this: For as gaudy the numbers as Buium's stats are, his tape didn't really have me in awe a la Makar/Fox. Folks comparing Zeev to Quinn Hughes is bonkers. If we passed on a talent like Q's because of size concerns, then I'd be apoplectic. Given how young Jett is -- a theme throughout the Flyers' draft (along with great WJC numbers), I'm not too upset. The Flyers picked a weak draft to go get guys they targeted. I respect that, especially before a massively important draft in 12 months. Like, if Jett and co. are all flops (unlikely) in their D+1 season, maybe they play it more conventional by the consensus boards -- or make a couple massive trades. They could "afford" to both trade up for a top tier 1C in the draft and/or trade for an established 1C with the 3 1sts and 3 2nds we have. Danny is playing the long game. Short of Buium becoming a megastar (really hard to imagine, but plausible I suppose), this draft doesn't matter a whole lot. But if they show they can identify talent the league misses, writ large, and can develop these youngsters, that'd be a way bigger boon for the rebuild than one offensive defenseman -- whom likely wants to be on the NHL ice ASAP. (Still pissed about Gauthier -- although, even he was considered a reach, remember?) My only *mega* caveat is I'd be VERY upset if Jonesy was the one who made the ultimate decision to trade Cutter for a nothing burger. That whole saga f'd us. Would love to know the real reasons. Oh, and can they please move on from Torts? Why he's here during a multi-year rebuild -- when most players hate him -- is infinitely more frustrating to me than "missing" on Buium. Take care and godspeed if you read all this, ha.
Not a flyers fan but I really love ur GM. I think their making great decisions regards to FA, Trades, drafting and draft assets. I always felt bad for y’all bc clearly Holmgren, Hextall, and Fletcher were awful. Look it’s gonna suck losing but you guys will be good again. Just give it time and be patient. Patience is the key
honestly torts will get the best out of the players so I don't really care what draft grade they gave us. Love torts as a coach and if he's happy then im happy. team stock should only be going up. we're a young team. let them grow and develop
What a sick-ass vid….a talking head, lil Danny, just shows the absolute stupidity that this once EPIC franchise has become…the only thing this sideshow did right was Torts..other than that we’re the Atlanta Flames, Hartford Whalers, Kansas City Scouts and the California Golden Seals without the white skates…another decade of mediocre hockey
