In this video, I show how I treat for Varroa Mites. I use Oxalic Acid Vaporization and this is just the first of four or five treatment cycles. I have a Lorobbees vaporizer, the plug-in model, that is a few years old. I mentioned Lock & Lock containers which I get from QVC (Not A Sponsor) I also mention the Hive Gate entrances that I use. Hi Jimmy. I treated 12 colonies and counted mite drops 24 hours later. Counts were in the hundreds after one treatment. It took 4 treatments, 4 to 5 days apart, to get 1/2 of the colonies below my personal threshold of 10 or less mites on the counting board. It took 2 more treatments to get 1/2 of those below 10. After the 6th treatment, the last three have 11, 19, and 12 mites on the board. Hopefully #7 gets them all.

Wow, 7 treatments! I was thinking of doing 5 treatments, giving them a week, then another alcohol wash to check them. Good luck with your treatments.

Thanks for sharing Jimmy. I only tested my strongest hive also, had about 1.5 percent mite load. Doing the brood break, powder sugar treatment and OA Vape to help control my mites and will test again in September. Looking forward to the finished product of your long hive. ✌️🐝 With you!

Thanks, I decided to give it 5 rounds. I've done 3 already and I have two more to go. I hope to get serious about the long hive build this week and next week.

Bee colonies that live in tree cavities are way farther apart than in our apiaries, especially if you have bears and need electric fence. Our hives this close together makes for unnatural drift between them and will spread the mites way faster than the bees in the trees. It's not the mites killing are bees, it's the diseases they bring to the colony and that's why it's good husbandry to keep the mites in check, especially now that our colonies will be raising the longer lived winter bee's that we need to get them through winter.

Tree hives being further apart is a good point as well. There are so many differences between Tree Bees and Box Bees. Thanks for watching.

Great video! I am going through this, my hives are huge. I am finding I need to do 4 grams of oxalic per deep to be effective. I also monitor mite drop as the test.

I have looked in my pest management tray, but to be honest, I don't clean it out every time. I also have Diatomaceous Earth in them. Thanks for watching.
