It all started so well, but unfortunately, it wasn't all it's cracked up to be. Still, it might have been a faulty unit. Who knows? Get one here through my Amazon affiliate link: amzn.to/3XbwLgv
Ok, so OneCarStereo has now seen this video and have emailed me telling me that their engineers have identified an issue and they have provided me with a fix update, which I have now installed. And now I can actually set the date, and the network now works too. Woohoo. I'll do a short follow up video at some point in the near future
I would personally pop the screws out of the metal cage and pop the flat metal off of it just to check and see if the WiFi antenna is actually soldered to the PCB, or if there's a bad connection to it. I see this unit has a short wire antenna on the back of the unit for the WiFi signal. Before I upgraded to my Teyes CC3 unit that has the screw-on external antenna, I had a Joying unit made in 2017 or '18 that had a wire WiFi antenna similar to the one you have, but it would only connect to 2.4Ghz networks, and it was pretty slow at the best of times, even with my phone acting as a hotspot right next to it😅
@@SaabUnleashed I think cheaper units use an "hidden" wired to wireless carplay converter which has its own Wifi ? Shame I would have loved it to work, I would prefer an unit with preouts for my 9-3 with Bose stuff.
Update 26 August 2024 - So the date was wrong, and this, as a few of you mentioned, is resulting in the lack of internet connection. However, there is an issue here. Turning off all timezone, network and location automation for the clock and date still does not allow the correct date to be set. Changing it to the correct date lasts 5 seconds before it reverts to 2nd of Jan 2024. If I activate the network time function, both the time and date correct, but only for about 5 seconds before returning to the 2nd of Jan 2024. And now I'm bored.
Oddly enough I have just bought one of these based on your review. Even if I cannot get WiFi working it still looks like a great headunit for Android Auto with a good amp.
@SaabUnleashed Sounds good!, looks a great head unit. Did they send you a file or was it a link to an update?. Looks like I will need to update mine when it arrives.
I think the MaxSpeedingRod one is the best budget Android head unit for music lovers at the Moment, as it has 4 sets of RCA pre outs and a Decent DSP implementation.. Front, Rear, Sub and Center channels.. it's around $150 and I think he has a Video about it.. There are a couple good mini amps that do 4 by 50 watts RMS or better out there that have both rca and speaker level inputs and are small enough to wire in behind a 2 din head unit...
@SLYDIT Not required. Just search "maxpeedingrods" radio and select the one compatible with your car. I have one in every vehicle I own😅. Some amplified, some solo radio. For the price, it's hard to complain.
I've tried a few Android head units over the years and was messing with "carputers" before that and it's almost always been WiFi connectivity problems that have caused grief. Either dropping connections or not making a connection in the first place, I wont buy one now unless it comes with a sim slot in it so i can give it it's own internet connection. I'm on my second sim enabled headunit now and it's so much better I wouldn't go back to faffing about with WiFi even for a better quality unit.
Hi, we are about to launch one new Android head unit with 4G LTE, which is 8GB+128GB. We are looking for beta tester, if you are interested, please contact us!😁
@@florapan-d6x If that's true then I may be interested depending what's on offer, I have a 12" Joying with removable screen in the car at the moment though so I wont want to downgrade.
Hi. Great videos. Im looking in to chaning to an andriod headunit, but im a bit "afraid" on how it will fit the car interior. Any recomendation on an great andriod headunit, that fits in an Audi A3 8p model 2006. Here i am thinking of the besel etc. Would like it not to look like shit :) Any brand to go for, or do you buy a besel seperate or what to do? The car has a RNS-E now. So it should already be 2U i guess? Thanks in advance
Thanks for the reveiw. The US non gifted reviews are not particularly positive. Something about not being able to set the date, TZ, and time as well as a couple of bad support and the unit crapping out after a few days. Also, this is a steel box inside a steel box inside a steel box with an internal antenna. I'm not surprised it's got crappy Wi-Fi performance. Anyway, moving on.... Oh, yeah. Here in the USA, it's $200. Not a good deal compared to say Atoto.
@@drgjs My problem is that the software is badly designed for the product. If this is an AA/CP head then the seller should strip out all the applications that will not work starting with the google store. This is a sloppy product and coupled with reliability questions in the reviews make this a non-starter for me.
@@PaulLemars01 100% agree. This makes me think that their Linux version is the better product. I bet it serves similarly to a dumb mainstream aftermarket unit, with radio, media player, and AA/CP...with no other options. Price it accordingly, and market it transparently. I rather like the idea of a legit audiophile grade pre-amp, amp, and dsp android unit...but maybe we're the outlier.
There's a link in the video description, that has the current price including shipping and yes the 57 plate is no different to the car I installed it in
were the car from they stop make them long time ago friend have one diesel sweden no one here in thailand have sean suprice you can get parts like you find
individual app permission in settings, do they need permission to use the data? I have a battery management system and phone app and it wont tell me how charged the batterys are on my phone unless i give it gps permissions... yeah i bought it from china.....
this is the kind of thing that happens with fake firmware that's designed to report hardware and software that's not included. Fake Device Test app would confirm but since you cant get on the play store you would need to side load it via usb or sd card
What is the second head unit with USB type-C you have seen (mentioned)? This one is looks interesting, but without 4G connection useless, BTW have you meet any 5G supported Android head units?
I got a Sony XAV-AX1000 in my Saab 9-3 but it is often unusable because of the reflections on the screen or the sun shining to brightly on it. Are there any stereos you would recommend? I am happy if Apple Car play works, i do not need a 100 features i will never use.
@@jacobfurman6500 Good idea, i will try to see if i can find any suitable for the screen. Otherwise i am happy with it. Responsive touch panel and good enough resolution.
I suggest you to ajust the date and time manualy on settings of this Android Car Head Unit , this propabily is the "problem" with internet. I know, the system should update automaticaly
You know, you might have hit the nail on the head here. I did manually set the clock as I need to do that with most brands, mainly because they're set to China time. I didn't notice the date was also wrong on this. Absolute schoolboy error. I'll test that theory when I'm back in the UK
I've read this elsewhere. If you have a moment--please help me understand how the date/time impacts android from connecting? (And how AA or CP get around this?)
@@drgjs Basically handshaking. All our devices are synced very precisely (atomic clocks are involved) because packets need to behave via some form of synchronized protocol (can be CDM/A or TCP/IP) so they don't collide and corrupt. Usually, the first packet out of the gate on a device establishing communication is who it is and what time it thinks it is. Usually, a receiving router of some form will return an acknowledgment including a correcting timestamp and a request for a re-send with the corrected time signature. If the client device can't update its timebase the device will be ignored. I Suspect that the code stacks for Bluetooth (AA/CP) are functioning in this device but the WiFi code is borked somehow.
Could it be an out dated version of playstore...have they sideloaded a very old version. If you can't open waze maybe that also needs an update which can't be done until playstore is updated 🤷♂️ have you tried running google chrome to see if that works? Editing again for a 3rd time....there is no google chrome...i dont think that is an android based head unit 😮 nothing in description to say what android version its running and no ram or memory specifics Its Linux not android. 😂😂
It is Android, and no app has access to the internet. Other android head units that have an outdated version of Playstore will still let you log in, and then force an update. Also, Waze doesn't require the playstore for updates. 100% networking issue with this
