The lack of trail maintenance, is clear on both the PCT and AT .... I do wonder if most of the volunteers have grown old, or died from the pandemic ? Trails don't maintain themselves and even CA has placed restrictions on using power tools for maintenance. It's going to take an entire new generation of volunteers to get out and cut those blow downs using hand saws.
I remember climbing under a tree like that. Mis-judged how big I was with pack and had to scoot flat on the ground. Cut my knee open. Then had to dress that, etc. when unsure now, I just take my pack off. Great video!
BTW, even though it’s less of a problem on the PCT as it is on the AT, Lyme disease is endemic in San Diego, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties, right in the middle of your current trail. Check for ticks like you did on the AT.
Glad to see our honesty about not enjoying.extra miles needed to get water. I get exhausted watching both you and Roadrunner and the miles and elevation you do daily. You both rock!!
8:30 You can see here how chaparral plants (and their Mediterranean shrubland cousins around the world) have adapted to surviving fire. It's not they *want* to burn; they just have the biological "insurance" to survive burning. They grow back from their root ball and you can see that in the video here.
I saw you crawling under the tree in your shorts on RR's vlog. Was wondering if you had second thoughts about your clothing choice at that moment. 🤣 Great views. Thanks for posting!
Too funny, connecting the steps. I just went SOBO yesterday and still had some good size (exposed) patches of snow along the east side of Apache Peak. I'm sure it was a bit more difficult when you all did it. I noticed yesterday that most of the PCTers were skipping that eatern slope and just head straight up and over Apache Peak. Was that an option for you all. Great interview. LOL at "should have started with her". Safe travels and happy trails!
A Chap.. maybe buy yourself a pair of shoe inserts for your foot pain..and about your ice axe on RU-vid there is a few ways to carry it on you and your pack so your not dragging it. Go Chap Go! ⛏️👟😎👍🏼
Would have been funny to play some ominous music in the background every time you showed San Jacinto. You started the day with Fireball and Plus One but didn’t camp with them?
Don’t call it “sketchy.” Call it “challenging, life-affirming, and exciting.” Be positive dude, you’ve got like 2500 miles to go, a lot of it is going to be challenging.
