The inner chain links are waaayyyy too heavy and cause way too much swing back on spin putts. Even the outer chains look lighter than they need to be, which is weird. 🤷♂️
They're all garbage. The disc golf basket design is garbage. Nothings going to actually get better until we completely redesign the target which will never happen because this terrible basket design is installed all over the world already. It's a bad basket and spitouts will still drag the sport backwards even if Prodigy baskets are removed. There's also not even any stats that objectively state they're worse than any other shitty basket. There's spitouts on nearly all Jomez coverage on all baskets.
The squares that the cross chains create can catch the putter and prevent it from falling into the basket. Why are they there? To prevent the disc from spitting out the back? I'd rather have that happen than what's happened to Isaac this round.
They happen on nearly every Jomez upload on every brand of basket though. Why hasn't a single person come forward with any spitout stats by basket to actually make an objective case?
Possibly hitting a drone was mentioned in commentary. If a disc in flight during a tournament hit a drone doing film coverage, what is the rule about that?
I've been saying for years that I hate Prodigy baskets. Those inner squares push back instead of catch. Nothing beats the disc catcher and Mach's in my books. There's others that are good too, but too many to list. Prodigy baskets suck.
Crosschains act as a pocket and if you hit just above dead center...it's sucks. Stupid... DGPT should use MachX only IMO But I know that's easier said than done. Good putt from Issac
It happens to everyone. Most players can hit a wall at any time in their rounds - even if they're having a stellar one to start with. I don't think this is unique to Cole.
@NickCarroll Definitely. Just seems like Cole felt defeated a couple bogeys in whereas other players might not feel or show that until they've had more bad playing than just a couple holes.
@@BlakJedi907 Yeah totally. I know it hurt him. I do think he tried to bounce back, but I don't think his mental game was totally to blame here. I also don't think he's different than any of the other pro tour players in terms of his ability to score through adversity. I just played a tournament yesterday where the first 9 I was winning, even compared to a couple tiers above me - and then things just fell off, and mental game didn't have anything to do with it. That's where I'm coming from at least. 🙂
How about strict specifications/design for tour baskets? Each brand can still make their own so people can remain brand loyal if they'd like and sponsors can still use their baskets for their sponsored tourneys. I don't know... It's just a thought. I get that people have preferences for at home and their home courses. That wouldn't have to change. At least with a uniform design on tour, the talk and chatter about how terrible certain ones wouldn't have to exist. Thus, the end of wondering who could've/would've done better or maybe won if it wasn't for spit outs.
My guess is because it's in the middle of nowhere between St. Louis and Columbia, MO. 45 minute commute to a St. Louis suburb. That's just my guess because I've heard great things from pros about the course itself.
I think the answer to Jerms question at 7:30 is yes. All baskets will make mistakes and drop some, they are all baskets just like every other basket out there. Ben should not have gave hole 4s basket the stare down. Now I'm not saying I agree with hole 10s retaliation and not just catching the little left side shorty, definitely could have, but any reasonable person or basket could see that happening. Plus they are like baseball buds or whatever.
Man I wanna see Callaway play well when on coverage, it feels like it never happens, he has the skills just needs to chain good rounds together and he can win
I know you can’t make a basket that catches everything but you can at least make them all the SAME. DGPT should have an approved design that they must have at tournaments. Problem solved.
We need to mix up the courses a little bit. Not that the tour list isn't good but they're getting played out a little watching the same places every year.
Ben and Isaac should sue the PDGA for emotional distress after 3 insane spit-outs😅😅(I am joking, plz dont sue the PDGA) but I've never seen anything like it. In fact, those are some of my favorite baskets. I've never had a spit-out from them. Maybe his put has too much spin for these baskets? Idk, I think all baskets on the tour should be the same on every course
Hot take, there may be some differences in catching ability across the different basket manufacturers, but IF YOU PUTT TOO HARD THERE IS A CHANCE OF A SPITOUT. You can’t just send everything dead center as fast as you want. Those who putt with a floater style of putting almost never spit out. The spin putts are the ones that spit out cause of their speed.
Issac doesnt even putt fast lol. Uli is the number 1 advocate of the point ur making. He constantly is on the side of putt softer putt better. But he can realize that these baskets specifically cause an issue with spit outs
That was not a hard putt. It didn't hit the pole. It caught the dumbass horizontal chains, which acted like a cushion, and bounced the disc out. It's a clear flaw in the basket design. Period.
Isaac should be in the lead, I know it sure doesn’t work that way bc that’s just how disc golf can go but damn he would be in the lead if he did not get robbed horribly
15:28 oh man, not again! Feel for you Isaac, I don't think it's hos putts though. I HATE these basics and those stupid inner chains, for this exact reason. so crazy.....
I love you guys like my own children, but you don't need to predict the outcome of every shot while it's in the air. Let the shot play out, and then comment on how it turned out.
I was camping by hole 15 and watched discs spit out or not catch all day Saturday and Sunday. Prodigy baskets are GARBAGE! Great coverage and commentating though. And thanks for the 3D printed mini Big Jerm!
Funny how civil lawsuits shape the world we live in. They’re afraid to say the word ‘prodigy’ out loud at the exact moment the sticker is flashed on the rim of the basket 😂
The thing is it’s not even just these baskets. Disc golf baskets as a whole need a redesign. A simple widening of the diameter of the cage would catch so many of these that dance around the rim
Why is the chase card check in constantly focusing on Gannon, when Gannon is out of the battle (6th to 10th), while Ricky is fighting for the lead on the same (chase) card? Obviously, the end result redeems the choice to some extent, but to me as a viewer, it reeks of bias. The excitement for the battle of the lead would also be more exiting if it didnt't constantly focus on someone who is currently (at the time of the check in) completely out of the fight for 1st. Has Ricky done something bad towards Jonathan or the Jomez team to warrant this kind of disrespect?
"Basket-flaws" are part of the game. Embrace it. I actually think that the variation of baskets can be an unique and compelling feature of disc gold, that can could be seen as a highlight of the game. Think of baskets like racetracks.
its 100% ok to spend time talking about the baskets.. its unacceptable that there isnt a standardized basket and somewhat embarassing for a "professional" level sport ... theres definitely plenty of professional level competition.. its just a lot of the other spots were lacking in to get the pgda where it needs to be
"veteran baskets are so much worse than other baskets", bullshit look at these baskets, every basket has flaws and we're seeing them, apparently hitting these left or straight sometimes just spits you out
The spit outs like that are just incredibly annoying and painful to watch. Definitely one of the biggest problems with our sport. The disc golf engineers need to try and get this figured out. You shouldn’t be penalized for a good putt like that. I get the ones that come in with speed. But Issac’s putt on 12 was perfect, no way should that putt be penalized. Very frustrating.
Regarding the whole basket argument: if a player misses a putt on a basket that is within regulation and used in tournaments, and that player can practice puts on those baskets, it is very much user error if the player misses the putt 🤷♂️
FYI, big Jerm. Calling Gannon Burr "inhuman" is an insult. I think you meant to say not human. I know you are a kind-hearted person and wouldn't do that intentionally. 😊
No, check your dictionary. Inhumane also has a cruel connotation to it. I'm sure he meant not human as in like a machine his putting is so good and without worries 😊
@@waynebryant1857 I agree! When he walked off the course at DDO with three holes left to play because he was playing bad leaving a card of three to finish and to top it off making a joke out of it with an IG video… that was weak. Totally agree brother!
JERM your favoritism for Buhr is unreal! Every tourney every shot he throws. He is definitely good there is no debating that as he should be good. Hes 6’7 and has a ridiculous wingspan, prototypical body type to throw a disc really far but there are atleast two or three players that can go shot for shot and play better under pressure. Stop talking about him 24/7. I have been a follower since the beginning but now refuse to watch coverage with Buhr in it because of your continuous drooling and aweing over him. He is not the MJ or Tiger of Disc and not even close.
How is a chain spit out a manufacturer flaw when you make a couple of birdies in a row & don't say they make flaw the basket catches too easy ..come on already a bunch crybabies it's part of the game, Let's start cutting down all the trees that get in our way too & blame it on course designer flaw! LOL LOL! I'm og old school I'll putt on any target!🐢✝️🥏
Yeah, there are spit outs, but that one on 12 was a soft pace, dead center, didn't hit the pole, and still came out. You should never be punished for as perfect of a putt you could have.
I think the bunkers play like a quarter to half shot penalty. Really nice feature. I get sick of seeing "hazard" penalty stroke plus play from the bunker. Same thing with artificial OB, you already threw a crap shot. Why take another shot? Especially on wooded courses. Makes zero sense and is idiotic.
Cole lost his mojo. It is crazy how much one hole can change your game so much. I think that is one thing in disc golf that is under realized is that the mental game is something else!!
I don't think it's always a mental game issue. I'm not sure it was the case here, at least. Sometimes players just stop performing well - and at the highest levels just being off a bit is enough to nosedive on a tough course. 🙂
This course needs more out of bounds. The bunker on 18 should be OB. The discs that go over the spectator rope should be OB. This course should challenge pro's on every hole. The leaders are throwing 11 to 14 under rounds.
Jerm, you're animorphizing the baskets again. What did we say about that, hmm? Truth is, chains should catch discs, for a reason. Unless/until they make chains that "cheat" by actually snagging discs that do NOT hit them, then I am inclined to say that chains SHOULD CATCH DISCS, as THAT is their job!. Chains CANNOT catch a disc that does not hit them, so chains "do yer job!" I'll use the classic: "We can put a 'man on the Moon', but we can't , make chains that catch discs?"
Any ATL player knows that prodigy baskets are trash. We hated them from the beginning. The only redeeming quality is that they catch bad putts. Low left is honestly the best spot to putt on them.
I wonder how many times in his professional career Isaac has missed the tunnel on hole 17. Like including practice rounds and everything it still prolly could be counted on one hand 😭
