In Collective West media, the violence taking place in Haiti is being reported as the symptom of a failed state. This is wrong. Haiti hs been the "laboratory of neo-colonialism" since at least 1915, and this is continuing today. At the moment, the Haitians are again revolting and striving to shake off the yoke of European and American oppressors. Listen to the explanations of Professor D. Jemima Pierre who gives the full (hi)story of Haiti's current struggle.
Dr. Jemima Pierre is a professor at the Social Justice Institute at the University of British Colombia in Vancouver. She is the author of „The Predicament of Blackness: Postcolonial Ghana and the Politics of Race“ Her next book that she is working on currently will be called „Natives, Ethnics, and True Negroes: A Counter-History of Anthropology.“

I'm Jamaican, and everything she said is truth about the hatred towards Haitian in the Caribbean. I remember when I just relocated to NY and was working with some young Haitians and me with my ignorant self try to mock one of my coworkers about Haitians eating dirt and they do voodoo. He quickly shut me up not to talk shit about his people and he will die for his people. I was so ashamed another guy told me to go do my research about Haiti and how they fought for their freedom and in return had to pay France for their freedom. That night I went and did my research and was astonish. I did apologize and now have this new light about Haiti. Haitians are some of the nicest people I met since living here in America and they stick together. Jamaica is so close to Haiti yet we aren't taught anything good about them so that's why we're so ignorant. We are one people. There is quite a few of us that stands with Haiti and want the best for our brothers and sisters. But there is a lot of work that needs to be done to get us united. And it starts with educating ourselves. There schools won't teach us about the truth so I'd advise people to do there research and follow people like this wonderful lady Jemima (shared the same name as my maternal great grandmother). I now have a deeper respect for Haitians and think they're badass for not giving up the fight for their freedom. HAITI WILL RISE THEIR FREEDOM IS A MUST STAY STRONG MY HAITIAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS. BTW I love Haitian for is delicious

Jamaican. The things she said about Haiti being the only black country to fight for their independence are nonsense. In 1738, the Maroons in JA signed a treaty with the British for self governance. This came after years of fighting guerrilla warfare against them. In Brazil, the Maroons fought for their own freedom and established a settlement (palenque I believe it's called) that lasted over a hundred years before it was destroyed. There are numerous examples of Maroons in other countries that fought for their freedom. Haiti's successful Maroon rebellion was an accident of history. They took advantage of the revolution in France and also the fight between the colonial powers for the governance of Hispaniola. If the Spanish were trying to take back Jamaica from England and if England had a revolution where they beheaded the royalty, we may have been talking about Jamaica being a pariah nation as well. There are numerous Haitians fleeing Haiti and landing on the shores of Jamaica. This has probably been happening for years. Notice she doesn't talk about that.

@@mhall0208 Everyone should read this comment to see how one’s ignorance can hinder their ability to comprehend history. Sir Haitian history is world history. You may have your feelings about Haiti fed by white supremacy but you cannot change its legacy. Haitian history and revolution begins in Mole Saint Nicholas in 1676 and it continued with Francois Mackandal our maroon named the Black Messiah in 1730. What you don’t know is that Haiti had trained soldiers who rallied to fight for its independence, let me introduce you to some of my ancestors: Toussaint Louverture , Jean-Jacques Dessalines and Capois Lamort. Haiti fought and helped United States with their independence in 1763. Haiti fought battles against 3 armies: France, England and Spain under General Toussaint Louverture and Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines. Under President Petion We helped liberated Latin America, we assisted Ethiopia, Congo, Greece. Haiti was the land of refuge in the Caribbean. My ancestors were not content to free Haiti. They were the first to end slavery and fought for black people worldwide, even writing to President Roosevelt to send the enslaved to Haiti . You think you know the History of the first black Republic of the world simply because of what you were told by White Supremacy and your inability to research basic information before you expose your ignorance? Think again. Haitian history is world history. A history of courage and audacity. Ayibobo to my ancestors 💕🌍🇭🇹🙏🏿

I would say that is Haiti that needs more professors like mrs. Pierre to held rebuilt their country, See, she expalins in a very detailed way how imperialists, the US, etc, had crippled Haiti but guess what, where does she live?- who she works for and ask what are her childrens nationality? - this is the same double standard i see in many of the haitian diaspora, people well educated , very concious about the reality of their country but the just do the talk, don't figth the fight, they have it very easy living in europe or the US.- that is what i call double standard.thanks.

Yeah, and to a guy like me, 60 years old and with a "late awakening" to this, it is intimidating how often this is true. Look at the US narrative from day one of the russian invasion of Ukraine; "A crazy, evil dictator, totally detached from reality, has decided to totally unprovoked attack a democratic neighbour, as first operation in his plan to concquer the entire world and reestablish the great russian empire"". Then do some studying, learning history and context of Russias invasion, Ukraine and NATO. Then closely study guys like Anthony Blinken ,John Kirby, Jake Sullivan and last but not least Victoria Nuland and Biden. Of course you then watch the entire Carlson interview with Putin. Finally, decide for yourself who of those guys seem totally detached from reality, evil warmongering and powerhungry to what cost ever.

My experience with Dominicans was incredibly racist and jingoistic towards Haiti. Dominicans said they were European, Spanish and not African, as the Haitians. The border between the two countries was militarized. One teacher literally showed how pale his hand was compared to mine! This was back in the early '90s, when i naively believed the two sister countries could work together. The US aid groups were no help whatsoever. A very informative episode. A significant part of my 'white' childhood was spent in Colonial Nigeria so I had intimate experience of racism and imperialism. Over the ensuing decades I also experienced the British Public School system as well as the UK 'domesticated' version of racism. What I had not understood until recently is the extent to which America deploys far more duplicitous forms of proxy military and economic tyranny and oppression. Haiti, the savior of every Black nation and other countries and peoples, defeated all three major empires at that time: the French, Spanish, and British. Long live the Haitian Revolution! As the Western world calls the famous Haitian army general “the first Black,” he warned the Western world when he was captured that they could eliminate him and crush the Haitian army’s revolution. However, he told them it was too late because the movement was gaining momentum and would arise in other countries and peoples who would continue the fight. Toussaint Louverture’s most famous quote is, “By overthrowing me, you have only cut down the trunk of the tree of liberty; it will spring back because its roots are deep and numerous.” He said others would follow suit because freedom is a basic human right. Although Haiti did not fully reap the benefits of its sacrifices, its fight for freedom benefited other nations and peoples. The Haitian sacrifices were not only for themselves but for others as well. 1804 for life.

@MrAmhara Actually, the involvement is much longer than you think. France was receiving reparations payment from Haiti until 2010. See excerpt from. FROM NPR ". In July 1825, the French King, Charles X, sent an armed flotilla of warships to Haiti with the message that the young nation would have to pay France 150 million francs to secure its independence, or suffer the consequences. That sum was 10 times the amount the United States had paid France in the Louisiana Purchase, which had doubled the size of the U.S. Almost literally at gunpoint, Haiti caved to France's demands in order to secure its independence. The amount was too much for the young nation to pay outright, and so it had to take out loans with hefty interest rates from a French bank. Over the next century, Haiti paid French slaveholders and their descendants the equivalent of between $20 and $30 billion in today's dollars. It took Haiti 122 years to pay it off..." "After the 2010 earthquake completely devastated Haiti, scholars and journalists wrote a letter to the French president demanding that France pay back Haiti. The French economist Thomas Piketty resurrected the idea in 2020, arguing that France owes Haiti at least $28 billion. The French government, under multiple presidents, has balked at the idea, and it is unlikely to pay Haiti back anytime soon."
