My Legion 9i gen 9 just arrived yesterday. This machine is a beast. The 3.2k mini LED is the show of the year. Absolute wonderful display. This one is fully maxed out. i9 14900hx, 64gb ram, RTX4090 @ 175W. This machine is a beauty, and i don't regret putting my money on it.
I reviewed the 9i last year and absolutely loved it. The carbon fibre looks stunning in person. My only gripe was the price in the U.K.! Did you manage to get a good price on this years model?
@@MashITTech Yes. Lenovo had a 15% discount going on when I got it. I paid £3,506 for the laptop. And then Lenovo gave me 99% discount for 3yrs premium warranty. I paid only £1 for that. Additionally, I purchased 3yrs accidental damage protection for £115 because there was a discount going on for the legion. And 1yr Lenovo smart performance. I paid Total of £3,677. However I think there's no sale going on right now. The price for the configuration I bought has gone back to £4,099 without warranty upgrade. Overall I think I got a deal. Given the fact the other brand in this configuration are nothing below £4,000+
@MashITTech Yes, I did get a good price for the laptop. Lenovo legion lineup was on a 15% discount here in the UK when i placed my oder. So I paid £3,507 for the maxed out version. And then I paid for 3 years premium care, 3 years accidental damage, 3yrs Battery protection, and 1 year Lenovo Smart performance. So, a total of £3,677 is what I paid for everything. Also, I think I got a good deal for it. Because I looked at other brands with this configuration here in the UK, they were more expensive. I looked at Razor Blade 16/18 2024 £4,000+, I also checked Asus rog strix scar 2024. The price was almost £4,000+. So overall, I think I got a good deal from Lenovo.
@@Alucardgab13 The display is outstanding. Bright with vivid colors. At native resolution I can get most games to play at max settings with reasonable frame rates (e.g. PUBG:120, Forza 5: 100+, Control: 90, Doom Eternal: 180). Some of those are with DLSS enabled, where available.
Is the LAN port missing? I have Legion Y540 and looking to buy a new one, I bought the Y540 because all the major ports were placed behind so better cable management.
Got my legion 9i gen 9 on sale for $2,600 after taxes. Big thanks too you for all the reviews been watching your channel for a while now. Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks for the review. Based on your overview and the comments so far, it appears to be a so-so offering, but for the price point it appears to be a decent deal. Great work as always.
Nice laptop. Nice that rams are not soldered and are positionned in the back. Btw the Bealtek 300w charger seems to be a bust. Our hopes for smaller high quality laptop charger seem to vanish in the air.
@@MashITTech yes please friend... i don't know what to buy, you've seen so many laptops, can you give your advice please, what do you personally choose? your laptop maybe even to look at 7i pro, you say in this video that battery of legion 7i 2024 with 14900HX is 5 hours youtube, i mean this is fine for me, i though it would last 1-1,5 hours. Currently i am using macbook pro m1 max and selling it to buy one of those... also i am feared about their displays quality after macbooks miniLED which is great, even because of this i was looking at Yoga pro 9 also. Please give me your advice, what do you choose? Or maybe you using desktop lol
imo the 165hz display is the only way to go. I don't see a way to add it and choose white on the Lenovo website. They only have two models to choose from. BB has the white model in the US but it's the 240hz panel and $250 more. I honestly don't know why they even offer 2 panels when the 165hz one is clearly superior with its color gamut. The screen is everything at this point...if you're not gonna offer OLED in 2024 then you have to put forth your best IPS. That's what I like about Asus is they always just put the best screen available in their laptops and call it a day.
I think I’d also be cool with Mini LED. IPS is just too hard to go back to after experiencing that or OLED. This notebook isn’t appealing at all to me.
It does look very nice but the problem is I have an all blackout setup LOL! Everything from my monitor to my desk pad to my custom keyboard to my mouse to my entire desk to my Haworth Fern chair, to my desk lamp is black! Funny thing is maybe this would work as an interesting contrast?
Thanks for the video. I just upgraded the memory in my new 2024 Legion 7i. I also went from 32GB to 64GB (I used for my case Crucial RAM 64GB Kit (2x32GB) DDR5 5600MHz ). I must mention that when you start the laptop, screen will be blank for few minutes while it recognizes the new memory. Just wait and it should work.
@@najahamid I got it from best buy and on the specs it mentions that you can upgrade. It works great at 64GB. Just make sure to order the RAM with 5600MHz, Best Buy only had 4800MHz in stock so I ordered it from amazon. I also a personal preference for a little bit faster I replaced the SSD with a Samsung - 990 PRO 1TB Internal SSD PCle Gen 4x4 NVMe. Cloning was easy and will keep old SSD as a backup or make it my second drive since you can also add a second SSD to the laptop.
@@najahamid Yep it supports 64GB RAM because I just used the "wmic memphysical get MaxCapacity, MemoryDevices" Command Line on mine and its results were the following: MaxCapacity MemoryDevices 67108864 2 Thus this rig supports 64GB RAM maximum as that command line polls the motherboard directly and is the best way to find out when in doubt! :)
Looks solid. I hope they do a 5090 and they can have my money next year .. unless Alienware step up and get their act together.. currently have the legion 7i 4090 and it’s been great for last year
@@munificentdancer1618 be demoed at ces and pre order be February with availo march - April.. Unless nvidia release mobile gpus at the same time as the desktop gpus, but that hasn’t happened since 2016
God finally a laptop with 3 USB - C ports. Happy Christmas, though can we get a non-slim one so I can get a xx80 card maybe lenovo? EDIT: Sorry Mash I know you love your Alienware judging your channels 75% of it, but not everyones got 4 grand for a M18. :x
I love the colour and design BUT I HATE the port placement. One of the best thing about Legion was the fact that there were adequate number of ports on the back. I have a Legion 5i 2022 model and I always have my mechanical keyboard and mouse plugged in. But because my Legion has two Type A ports at the back, my setup looks so clean and tidy.
Great video - yeah, just finished watching it now! :-) So... Need your thoughts on Asus G16 4080. Any chance for a review? It seems to be the best all-rounder at that size - but very few reviewers seem to recommend it. The Lenovo you just reviewed is so nice looking - but poor battery (and 4070) kills it for me. Would like to hear your thoughts! (if you're still reviewing this thread). Thanks again!!!
bro you said that you will compare battery life of Slim 7 (amd 2023) with this one, please i dont know which one to buy Legion 7i 2024 (14900hx, 4070 with 3.2k screen) for 2445 $ or Legion Slim 7 2024 (7840HS, 4060 with 3.2k screen) for 1630 $ Please give me your advice 1) overall no matter price, 2) based on everything also with price / power / batter Also i am scared about their screen... and how i would fill after macbook pro 14 m1 max miniLED (my current laptop), how much is difference in color and quality, and how much matter they are? (i love glossy, or semi-matte) And i use trackpad often nowadays))) And what laptop do you use yourself as your main daily driver laptop? I am also thinking maybe even Legion Pro 7i?))) i broke my brain already Thank you in advance
I hope they keep going with the white in future models. This model was on sale on their website for 1700 and I could have gotten another 150 off. Decided against it at the end and for some reason it only came in black :/. I'll get another year use out of this laptop then look at the models next year.
hey man is it possible for you to test overwatch2 at 1080p with lowest settings, want to see if 14900hx and rtx4070 can handle a sustain 400fps cause im mostly playing overwatch, thank you!
Hmmm it's to expensive for what i get in Europe. Only RTX 4060, 16GB ram for 2269 euro. The Asus ROG Strix G18 has a 4070, 32GB Ram, 1600p 240hz mini LED screen for just 2199 euro.
can we get more details about the conditions during battery testing? even if not in the script, listing on screen stuff like percent charged when started testing refresh rate when testing windows battery saver settings used any rgb on and if so how much : any undervolting or overclocking any other applications beside youtube open while testing
Sure, I will try and put more info on screen in future but my testing is as follows: Screen at 200nit 60hz, no keyboard lighting, no other software open except RU-vid, Balanced windows setting with no screen time out or sleep enabled and quiet vantage profile. No undervolting or overclocking is ever used in our testing unless we explicitly mention it so users know what to expect if they buy the machine
Thank you for the review. Question: can the 3k2k screen run games in 1600p or 1440p just fine or do you notice any blurriness? In my country there are only 3k2k screen options available.
7:36 noticed the frame rates jump quite a bit, and the display kinda moves out of sync a bit, anyone noticed that? Can that be tuned? Am hoping to get some idea as im hoping to pick this laptop up, any feedback and help much appreciated!! Big thanks Mash IT for the awesome review, and amazingly helpful and detailed!!
She's a beaut! Can't find white out here (Canada). Doesn't matter though, I got the 2023 Slim 7i in storm grey about a month ago. Lol. I wonder how yours compares. It's HX and you got the fancy new 3K panel. 👌Same cruddy speakers. My trackpad doesn't wobble though. 😬
@@cutthat4643 Ya, I don't love those things either, but there's a reason why the (Slim) 7 is competitively priced for gameplay that's close-to-comparable to Razer's significantly heftier priced alternative. Lenovo did try to tick most of the boxes for the needs of as many users as possible (gamer, content creater, accountant, etc.), which means they were bound to piss off some consumers. There's no perfect laptop, so one needs to decide what's really important to one.
ahhh idkkk msi and asus have they deisgns packed mean while razer keeping it stealth still but this legion is good love a white setup always but i looking at it what if was all black so idkk
A newbie question. Would you go for Legion 7i gen 9 or the lenovo yoga 9i pro 16 inch? Just want a new laptop, but also some light gaming to keep in contact with mate on otherside of world. Maybe some xbox pass games
if you're not a heavy gamer, you'll do better with yoga 9i, it's more portable and productivity focused and it can handle light to medium games at good enough performance, but if you play games often and need power and can carry the brick around and use it while being charged, you should get the legion.
One question will legion 7i i9 4070 2024 will it get windows 12 as there is need of 40 TOPS(Tera Operation per Second I thinknou related) for it and is Lenovo La3 Ai chip is capable please help me as I have already booked it, I will get by Sunday morning it cost around 200,000 INR ( 2399$) with ADP for another 2 years, But if 12 doesn't work then no use of spending my hard earned money on it for next 5 years please help as in India as of my research no youtuber has made video on it 🙏🙏
I assume white color is easier to get dirty, especially part where both your arm rest, touching area left and right of the touchpad, is it? I heard that the white version has a special rgb in rainbow pattern, color is lighter, than in the black version, is it true? Or is it also available in the black version? Can we modified the color shown in the rainbow pattern? Have u ever had a problem with the rgb keyboard, in any oh ur laptop that has rgb, if 1 or 2 keys dont lit up, or even all keys, is it easily repairable in official sevice centre? Hoe much the cost to replace with new one?
can u test this laptop with llano cooling pad? as the back of the laptop is different from last year i'm not sure if cooling pad has any impact on this year
I'm in the UK and can only find that spec for £500 more than you listed. Were you quoting the official price or have things changed in the last few days?
The facts that this laptop maxed out with a RTX 4070 is such a deal breaker for me, I'm looking for a new laptop and it need to have a fingerprint sensor, I just can life without it in my laptop. For some reason almost every laptop with fingerprint also maxed out with the RTX 4070. Don't get me wrong the RTX 4070 is a decent 1440p card but the problem is THE VRAM! I'm not going to buy a 8GB graphics card in 2024 when that is already no enough for a lot of game. If only they would have released a RTX 4070ti with 12GB of VRAM for a refresh to close the gape with the RTX 4080 but nope they HAD to focus in AI this year ... Anyway my last hope the Raider 18 HX A14V for a reasonable priced RTX 4080 laptop with fingerprint sensor.
No disrespect meant, but best looking laptop? We buy gaming laptops to game. I will stick with the Lenovo Legion i9, fast as hell, rock stable, best laptop I ever owned. I think the i9 has a better light show too.
Why is everyone lying 🤦🏾♂️. That thing just screams “gamer boy” and it drives me crazy lol. And the pro 7i just further screams “RGB gamer bro.” Lenovo said fuck subtlety.
I have been struggling to pick between the Legion 7i (14900hx/4070) for $1785 currently and the Legion pro 7 (7945hx/4080)for $2270. I think the amd is last year's model. Use case is video editing in DaVinci and some gaming (BG3, Fallout 4, etc). Any thoughts?
I am not a fan of the 14th generation as they are, to all intents and purposes, a repurposed 13th generation. Also, the RAM is slower and has more latency than LPDDR5X, and I prefer fast now rather than the chance of upgrading sometime in the future. Also, not having the Core Ultra means you do not benefit from the latest architecture, including the low-power efficiency cores (background tasks and video playback) and the latest ARC Graphics (explains why battery life sucks on this). So this and other 14th-gen are easy passes, and I would recommend waiting for the next-gen if you can, as you are likely to regret this in six months' time when Intel reveals their latest chips.
I really don't want the zephyrus g16 because of soldered ram and oled possible burn in but honestly that oled is crazy nicer than this and the speakers r way better than this ... for roughly the similar price the g16 is way better than this
Hey! Great review as always, is there any chance I can get the download link to that RTSS OSD? Looks georgeous and really clean. Cheers from south america.
That is a custom overlay I made myself. I am happy to upload it for you if you wish to use it but you will be looking at our mash IT logo every time you game 🤣
@@MashITTech That's definitely what I'm looking for 😂 If you could do that I would greatly appreciate it. I'd be sure to delete the logo if that's a worry for you.
I understand that you have to keep up attention to your channel, but so far I really have to say that the 2024 gen is the least exciting update I can remember. Well, the easier way to open up the back for upgrades seem to be nice, but other than that? Meh...
I 100% agree with you and as a reviewer it is really hard when it is a year of mostly rebrands! Also as someone who buys the laptops I review I just cant justify getting a lot of them in (especially at the price of the razers) just to tell viewers they are almost identicle to last year 🤣
@@MashITTech I really have to thank you and other reviewers, for buying a (non-slim) Legion 7i Pro last year. Even if I have a larger wallet than most, I simply cannot justify buying a 2024 gen upgrade. But keep up the good work! And if I may, keep focusing on the support plans, because that's what really matters to us hybrid pros/gamers. That is what makes your channel stick out. But who am I to say? I am not even a member/patreon? 😉 I have a slightly bad conscience... I'll probably cancel Netflix and do my due diligence. 🙂
Lenovo's wave of mega silent firings in early 2023 were absolutely despicable. They laid of thousands of really great people after posting record profits and bragging about moving up the Forbes list each quarter in their "All Hands" NA org sales meetings to those people that moved the needle for them. They ruined thousands of people's lives who relocated and rented or purchased new homes just to join the US sales organization during the digital boom of the pandemic and increase in business for them, forcing them to lose their homes and become homeless. Their warranty process is atrocious and considered terrible by anyone who has had to deal with service claims on top of this. If you have any sort of human ethics or care for others in your soul, game elsewhere.
Many laptop companies have been doing layoffs including Dell and HP. Also most non-Apple/Dell laptops have terrible warranty processes so this isn't unique to Lenovo. I'm more concerned about spyware and bloatware that Lenovo may install on their non-thinkpad machines.
@@MashITTech the screen looks grainy and not as sharp and bright. I’ve tried changing resolution and DPI. I got it to where I liked it but it made everything looked small. Maybe it’s the screen size with the given resolution.
Please DON'T BUY this Legion Slim 7i laptop. You're limited to Windows 11 OS only. Lenovo provides drivers only for this OS version. You can't install any other Operating Systems on this machine. It has provisions only for two RAM slots and two SSD slots. I bought one by my wrong decision. Now I regret. Please don't buy this Legion SIim 7i 16IRH8. Will Lenovo provide drivers for Windows 10, Windows Server os?
Bro the windows 10 will be dead in a few months, are you living under a rock? I don’t like this either but we’re pretty much forced to upgrade sooner or later
Not true! I had a laptop that stopped the display from opening beyond a specific point. This limited how close you could be to the laptop AND if you accidentally hit the screen when fully open, it can damage the screen. This is a very valuable feature for expensive notebook.
@gdonepercent youre really trying to mske an excuse why it can bend backwards with that explanation. That's a big stretch of a reason. Okay let's ignore your argument. What other reason is there?
@@williamruffoh I gave you two reasons. Perhaps counting is not one of your skills? Okay, here’s another one. I like to put my laptop on the ground and stare down at it to watch movies while I eat cereal standing outside in the middle of an open field. 🤯🖖
@@MashITTech I know right, I do some editing for fun, games and travel alot so need an all in one laptop and would be nice to have speakers similar to macbook pros then wouldn't need a Bluetooth speaker. Great review btw thanks!
Speakers are in my Top five specs that matter. After I bought a horribly bad Galaxy Book2 Pro, I will not look at laptops with trash speakers, so this is 100% a no-buy. The G16 is easily better, as I do not worry about soldered RAM (why worry?).
dont agree, only 4070, poor speakers, crap trackpad, no facial login?, ok screen, battery life is not great, looks great but surely the Asus G16 is far far better than this or even a RB16 is better, just not good enough, white is nice though
The RB16 is so much more expensive and the G16 has upgradable and CPU issues, it's a trade off with every one of them unless you're stupid rich then the RB16 is perfect.
@@cutthat4643it's not a very powerful 4070 in the G16 tho and I've also seen that it has some thermal issues as well. Tthe G16 4070 is little bit cheaper than the L7i but that version has the Core Ultra 7 and 16 gigs which I think is worse value for money compared to the L7i. The 4080 G16 seems to be the best thin and light laptop but man that thing is expensive and is not even on sale in my country.
nope, this is way better than ROG STRIX G16, with a better webcam with 1080p 30fps built in while ROG STRIX G16 is only at 720p 30fps, better screen with 3200x2000, while ROG STRIX G16 only with that 2560x1600p, better trackpad with a glass touch pad, better audio by harman, better warranty for 3 years while ROG STRIX G16 only 2 years, and OFC! better aftersales!! and 1 more thing…it’s built in with an aluminum chasis while ROG STRIX G16 with ABS 😂, that’s all, well this should be the best laptop to buy in 2024 BECOZ IT IS WAY SLIMMER THAN ALL GAMING LAPTOPS ( except Zephyrus 😭😭 )
@aby4858 yes you're right but I don't agree that the.legion speakers are better definitely its much.more beautiful and.netter build that strix 16 but strix has 4080 option which is kind of I'mportant for a gaming laptop legion is an.amazing around laptop and beautiful in white, if they improved the speakers and add 4080 it might be perfect
