Great test drive covering all kinds of roads. Great car. I don't know if I could get past the engine noise when accelerating though. And to have to rev close to the maximum just to get to 60 mph would make me worried about burning up the engine. I've driven underpowered cars before and they're not safe on the highways where 18 wheelers are in a hurry.
Nah, he was using the paddle shifters and revving it really high during that spirited driving segment. Regular driving doesn't push the engine like that. I have a 24 Crosstrek Limited with the same engine. Have never had any issue merging onto highways or getting around town.
Have you test drove the '24 Sport or Limited? I own a '24 Sport and it's not that loud when accelerating. And the 2.5 liter has 182 horsepower, it's completely safe. I never, ever have a problem with getting on the freeway, not even close. It's has more than enough power and burning up the engine is not anything to worry about in this car. It speeds up with no effort. This guy is intentionally trying to drive this car like a race car, that's not what it's made for.
If they get rid of the Cvt and make a sti version I would soo buy one I always loved crosstreks I know they come in Manual transmission on the older ones but wish they had just a little more power
With the small engines it’s not a worry, but the higher torque motors I’m leery of the CVT (even though I had no troubles with my H-6 touring Outback over two years). But yeah, a manual would be great, and an 8-speed auto would also rock.
