I have it and I agree so I'm gonna put a supercharger in it along with some other things like a new ECU etc to up the power to 165bhp and 200nm torque. All of the mods are tried and tested so no risk. The underpoweredness is the only negative point of the Jimny otherwise it's just an instant legend.
@@anoopraghunath2471 if you have ever driven one on the highway you would know it needs it. With the stock engine it's fine for a little bit of offroading but if you want to use it as a everyday car and overtake ect. That engine just doesn't work. And the automatic gearbox is also very dated.
Suzuki designed the Jimmy XL to be modified by buyers. Change the tire to balloon type one, put additional flood lights on top, even the fug lights. New front & back bumper support. Some awning the side, water tank at the back. I guess this car is meant to be modified.😊
It cannot take anything above 215 .. above that the dynamics go awry and the tiny engine just gives up. Fun fact this was made for the Indian market and this one is made in Suzuki India plant. And guess what , this costs around 16 k usd on road in India. 😂
I think it would be fine for around town and a little bit of off-roading. Probably great as a second car for a small family. Looks good in the driveway ☺️
Having owned an auto and manual Jimny, I'd take the auto for off-road capability. The gearing is high for offroad take off on obstacles(even in low range). In the auto you can really load up the torque converter which is needed in serious offroading when the engine is underpowered. Australia misses out on the better specs over seas
By the time the dealerships add their mark up this is no longer going to be a cheap car. Quotes going around are $42k. You can get a Tank 300 for a few grand more.
Tank 300? Are you talking Great Wall? Seriously, those piece of turds are breaking up even when I look at a picture of them. Never recommend this unreliable crap. I am serious. It will not serve you well.
I would like to have long 3 door, as I don't care about the back seats but more room in the back would be good. But so long, if I had to chose - the 5 door is a winner.
If they had given it more power or an engine better suited to the XL version then it would 100% be an option. But given the normal Jinny is slow. I can't imagine how painful the XL would be to road trip in let alone merge on to highways
I would buy this car in heartbeat if did better on the highway. If I’m honest that’s where I’d end up using it the most and would rarely take it off road.
I agree with most that the Jimny probably needs a bit more power. But I feel it’s closest competitor in terms of looks, price, and size, is probably Suzukis own Vitara, so putting something like the boosterjet turbo would cannibalise sales from the Vitara.
vitara is more on road focus with a little bit of off-road on the side, latest grand vitara reboot is almost no off-road jimny is more off-road focus with on road on the side the target audience is a bit different
Fine for around town to look different. A toy car actually. Too small. Can't load overlanding stuff in it. Like a match box. And 1.5 litre petrol engine cribed from a Singer sewing machine, and too expensive.
It's a good car overall especially for off-road. But here in India practicality doesn't matter. Size of car and Power of car matter (mostly for those who don't have car and take knowledge from Instagram)
@@shubham_M7777 that's the point. These cars are not for space. These are not family cars. Both thar and jimny are mainly for offroad. But atleast jimny is 5 door. A little easy for 5 people. As it's new gen of gypsy. It has small engine. Better in high revs which is mostly needed in mud and snow. That's why with less weight and more high revving, it performs best in snow and mud 😉
I have the 3 door manual, and I’d swap the adaptive cruise control for the useless emergency braking system, which has a heart attack when there is nothing else on the road quite often. That is a solution looking for a problem.
Awesome vid, awesome car - but it is not really practical with that engine. It offers worse performance than a 2000 Suzuki which costs 1 or 2k. It is unreal. So I am waiting for a new engine - they will have to upgrade the engine in a few years I imagine.
What you really had to say at the very beginning: Suzuki Jimny XL IS NOT made in Japan, but in India and not even at Suzuki factory, but by Maruti. So basically it's some Ragesh from the village handmade with some site profits goes to Suzuki badge. 😂😂
This (as would the 3 door) be great with a small (say 2 or 2.2 litre) turbo diesel and lower low range gears. My 3 door does run away a lot more down a slippery hill than my Rocky ever would
I drove my sons Jimny once that was the first and last time l will drive it no power and l own a drive a 1997 Toyota Hilux similar horse power but much more torque and so much easier to drive after all my Hilux has a 2.4 litre 4 cylinder motor l asked my son is there any way of extracting more power out of it and my wife has a Suzuki Baleno same size engine automatic and it isn't a real chore to drive seems to have a bit more power than the Jimny
Those 15" wheels mean you can fit higher profile tyres, which means when you let the tyres down you get an elongated tread for sand etc. I would update the suspension to improve handling, maybe a fuel tank upgrade. The problem is it has a GVM of 1545 Kg with a kerb weight of 1185 Kg. That leaves 360 Kg for people, fuel, any upgrades etc. It doesn't say what is included in the kerb weight? Long Ranger has a 80 litre replacement tank. So take off about 163 Kg for two average people, 80Kg for fuel that leaves 117 Kg for load right there. Any additions like bull bars etc takes off more load allowance. Balloon tyres like has been suggested and larger diameter wheels will all, add weight. So you would have to be very judicious with what you want to take away with you let alone an extra body, even for a short off road camping trip. You could upgrade the GVM with the suspension upgrade but I bet it won't be much. There are probably some engineering experts out there looking at improving the engine performance.
For that weight and size, it is more than okay man. If you give more power this car will roll because it is narrow and tall. Bro before talking about power, first learn what is power to weight ratio. I don't know why this Australians always go to conclusion without thinking what is the actual reason.
Super expensive for a really cheap car with a 4 speed auto, not the only old school thing. At least now you can at least use your Jinny to go grocery shopping…
In the US here, we had an old Side Kick and dearly loved the lil SUV, it was everything you needed and nothing extra. Some may long for Lambo’s and Porsche’s, but I’ll dream of this lil Jimny being at a Suzuki dealer which we no longer have here, thanks GM for screwing Suzuki over with your rebadged crap.😡
I owned a 3 door Samurai and it was a simple, tough and reliable all purpose vehicle. It is great for what it is, but a slightly larger engine or diesel would be perfect.
I went with the manual as I don’t city drive and adaptive cruise isn’t something I need. It is a slow car but it isn’t meant to be a sport car. I have a sport car the Jimmy doesn’t need to be a sports car for me at least. It is practical what I found is the soft suspension is really good on rough roads. Plus the rear seats are great if you have kids as they are higher and kids can see out the front. Sitting in the backseat for an adult is surprisingly roomy. I live in the country NSW it is great on our crap roads. On highway I haven’t tried yet but imagine slow but still manageable. It is a boat of a car around corners but most 4x4 are going to be due to suspension and height. It is a great little car, plus if you a tired of all the electronic nanny safety features it is really great, as it doesn’t have any. It is more for people who need a capable, reliable 4x4 and are happy to live with it being unpowered. It is excellent car to have if have a rural weekender on dirt roads or you are into 4x4 on a budget. Suzuki could have stuck a turbo on it but it was designed to be low maintenance or low tech.
Let’s face it. The low power engine supplied is a passive safety feature. More power with the obviously less than remarkable handling dynamics would be a recipe for disaster.
They used the same front door in 3 door jimny which is long for easy enter in 2nd row but they could've shortened it and add more length in the quarter window making it look less weird.
i feel like the indian and australian automobile industry and quite similar. this car also recently relaesed in india. also most of your videos are are of indian cars or cars that are very popular in india. anyways love from india 🔥 🔥
@@vasu_0001 I mean cars made by indian brands and also the cars from other brands famous in india like toyota fortuner and suzuki all cars. Also carsauce just released the review of Mahindra thar(indian car from indian brand), that proves my initial point.
Definitely the auto . It’s a nightmare stuck in traffic when you have to keep on changing gears all the time. And the Auto is great out there wheeling is well
Love the new 5 door Jimny! they should have an option as RWD for city driving! to bring the price down! it's a perfect car for the city drive, and also Jimny is perfect for off roading but Not ideal for HWY driving! they should come standand 4wd version bigger wheels and tyres and 1.4 tubo engine, also 6 speed manual and 6 speed Auto! then the price would be right!
Watching him pull through the gears in the manual was one of the most painful things I've ever watched. I genuinely feel sorry for that car. For future reference, please, for all manual car kind, stick to driving Automatics, I'm not meaning to be rude or mean, but that was straight up painful. Anyway, i had the manual Jimny 3 door and it was brilliant. Being a driver by profession, i would have a manual over an auto any day. Driving Auto just gets boring after a while and i like to be in full control of the vehicle I'm driving. Auto gear boxes take you away from the full driving experience. But like so many other people, the issue i had with the 3 Door was the lack of space in the Back. I'm hoping that at some point they bring out a JX model for the 5 door like they did with the 3 door.
Here’s the thing, these tires are way too small, you don’t have enough ground clearance, now let’s say you put 31” tires. That tiny little engine will struggle in the parking lot… so at the end of the day you have no ground clearance, no power and no fun
The jimny out performs most of the more exoensive 4wds out there . Its embarrassing to go thru obstacles with a g wagon and see the jimny parked there when you reached the end 😂
The jimny will go anywhere the other 4×4 goes and for less. If you keep adding then you will end up with the other 4×4 that you dont want or cant afford
i think they sould put AGS transmission insted a regular automatic transmission in that 5 doors version. the body of 5 door jimny is more heavier than its 3 door little Brother and also regular automatic transmission is more heavier too i think it wolud be better to use AGS. to solve the weight ratio isue in 5 doors version cut the weight in transmission would be a brilliant Idea.
As much as I love the looks this feels like a really lame half assed and super cheap way to do this! Bit of a let down man! The rear boot floor should atleast be flat! Or the seats fold fully forward like the original old seats!
