Triumph Acclaim was basically a Honda Ballade. A very good and underrated little car.

The Hillman Hunter is actually a Humber Sceptre with a 1725cc engine. My friend had one in the 70s.

I had one in the late 70s, nice interior, twin Stromberg carbs & overdrive on 3rd & 4th gears. Rootes answer to the 1600E Cortina.

No it isn't, Where'd you get your info from because it's two totally different cars.

Yep, Paul is correct. It’s a Humber Sceptre from the Rootes Group of cars. Basically a posh Hillman. My father had a white one in the 70’s and I drove it often. Very plush for me at the time and they had the benefit of overdrive too. Not the best handling car I have driven to be honest, but very comfy in a straight line. Seemed underpowered for the size of the car too. Looks a nice example although not sure the wheels were standard Rootes attire.

The engine was a 1725 I seem to remember. Not bad performance for the day if you used the overdrive consecutively on 3rd and 4th gears under heavy acceleration! Rostyle wheels were a factory option but not standard on the Sceptre. Great video - thanks.

My pal Phil Jinder Dewhurst reckons that blue Volvo is possibly one of two his neighbours had in the 80s as the reg were both OPR and they were the same colour.

Interesting selection there. I was taken by the FSO Polonez which looked particularly fetching on those cross-spoke alloys, and the Fiat twin cam would give it some beans!. That Fiesta was really nice, and brought back some memories as I had a very early MK2 diesel. I also had a Volvo 144 while on a working holiday in Australia, a 1972 2.0 (I think) automatic. The Senator?, lovely cars though I now prefer the previous shape (ideally with velour upholstery!). As for the black strips on the rear light lenses, that is how they came from the factory. Can't remember the last time I seen a Subaru Justy, but they were interesting wee cars, if only for being 4wd. That Tigra looked very nice too, great looking little coupe slightly let down by that dowdy Corsa interior (and so so dynamics, it couldn't hold a candle to the Puma). Very complex rear window as i recall, partly because of the size, but also due to being curved both ways. My Dad and Grandad both had Hillman Hunters, so the Humber Sceptre here is a very familiar shape. Good solid cars with a variety of different badges on the same (Rootes Arrow) body. The fastback coupe (Sunbeam Rapier) is a particularly handsome thing and with the Holbay tuned engine (110hp), plenty quick enough for the time. The Arrow gained a 2nd life in Iran as the Paykan where it was in production right up to 2005 (though the pickup version soldiered on for another decade!). The Triumph Acclaim was a nice wee thing too, very reliable and pleasant to drive (being a rebadged Honda Ballade), a workmate of my Dad's had one.

Very worrying for me to see you drooling over “classics”, which were the “modern” cars I used to lust for, but could never afford.
