I like the carbon series, I've had 3 gen for a few years. I like the keyboard and looks but its way overpriced. The outer material was cracking on the lid a few years back already and i changed battery twice. Overall its still useable nowadays
Certainly one of the best for 2024 but oh the price even with 32 GB of soldered RAM. They are into Apple MBP 16" space! I'll check back with Lenovo as you are 100% correct buying when sales are offered is the way to go.

I wish they would put one usb-c on each side so you can charge from either side. Or I would happily give up the usb-a port on the right for a third usb-c.
Great review Andrew! Loving the change in the keyboard layout. Although, I like the power button on top, not on the side unless its a 2-in-1. As a fan of 16" laptops I hope these changes are reflected on the X1 Extreme this year. If I don't end up buying the HP Spectre X360 16", then that one will be my next best thing to get of course after a sale price!
I think the spec weight is wrong. It should start at 1.09kg instead of 1.12kg … it was the highlight when announced. That’s why the weighting done by you was 1.099kg
Does the palmrest bite into your hands while using the sample X1 Gen 12 , Andrew? I would say the X1 Gen 12 is a great laptop. Two things I wished: a bigger battery (something like 65 or 70Wh 4-cell) and an AMD processor because they are the best in long-running tasks. Many improvements with the Zen 4 architecture: some Thinkpad Series laptops come with AMD variants and processors, such: R7 7840U or R7 Pro 7840U with a 4nm transistor (reduced power consumption with the same peformance to complete the same task, less heat and longer battery life, while this is true in general). Intel always had problems with heat, fan noise and battery life, even with sustaining performance under heavy loads (that is held back to the architecture used and the nm process they're at, although they somewhat mitigated this). Two major problems with laptops not being able to cool processors inside them: poor cooling solution and processors too powerful (in a thin and light chassis). With the 8000 series from AMD released, I hope some units you will be testing containing these new AMD processors are going to see improvements (if any). I would also like to know your testing methodology that you test when reviewing diffferent laptops from different companies: brightness level to be concerned with (in one of your reviews for the Thinkpad X13s Gen 1 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU you did two tests for it: 1) balanced mode with screen brightness at 200 nits, I think AND 2) 150 nits with battery saver mode. You didn't become transparent about what brightness level you measure battery life with best battery settings. Correct me if I'm wrong! I kind of like the design, port location, and single core performance on the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 11 more (with the Intel 13th gen U series CPU). However, the improvements/changes may appeal to the gaming & light video editing crowd. Better battery life, refresh rate, better multi-core performance, and iGPU are far better.
