Found an AVX on the course early in a round recently, I played it all the way through the back 9 and have never put together so many good shots, one after another. This ball felt amazing coming off my driver and barely moved from where it landed on the green from my approach shots. I immediately ordered a couple dozen. I’m not the most accurate or consistent with yardages on my irons but I feel like this ball is going to help me dial that in, or I hope so. If you’re on the fence, buy a sleeve and give them a shot.

Love this video! I am a slow 85 driver swinger but love the idea of a softer AVX and a little low 77 compression and Urethane cover. Gonna buy some and check them out

I played the ProV1 for a long time and really struggled with too much spin with my wedges and lower end of the bag on approach shots. A buddy at my club suggested I try the AVX because it's lower spinning. Bought a sleeve and played them side-by-side and it was a night and day difference for me. I didn't see any change to distance with any clubs but on approach shots it's a stop-on-a-dime solution for me. The ProV1 used to hop and rip back and sometimes off the green. The AVX allows me to play to my number more accurately.

Keen to try the 2024 AVX. Been playing the AVX for the past few months to get my driver spin down, and it’s working well so far. Could always do with a bit more green side control so I’ll be interested to see the difference in this model. Pretty happy they are $15 AUD less than a dozen ProV1 too!

Great explanation. helped alot. Will the new avx produce more spin on mid/long irons than the tour speed did? I just couldn't seem to hold firm greens with the tour speed. I'm generally a low launch kinda guy

The AVX is my new ball for 2024 and have been playing it for the past 4-5 months. I have a 95mph swing speed with the driver and this ball has added a few yards to my game. Slightly harder than the PRO V which I really have to get after to get the distance I want. I will play the AVX until something better for my game comes out. Love the Callaway Chrome as well but think the AVX it s a notch above

The TM Tour Response is much softer and lower compression, but what would you say the 3 biggest differences are between the 2 balls or are they otherwise pretty similar?
@DavidDusek
@DavidDusek 4 месяца назад
Interesting question .... the first and most obvious thing is the price. The TM Tour Response is $42.99 per dozen, and the AVX is going to be about $50. The Tour Response has a compression around 70, while the AVX is about 80. The AVX's urethane cover is thicker, which means it feels softer than the previous AVX, even though the overall compression hasn't changed. So, with higher compression, I suspect most golfers will get a little more green side spin with an AVX than a Tour Response, but every player's experience could be a little different. - DD

They just need to make the alignment lines 1/2”-3/4” longer. Similar to the line that 90% of golfers put on the ball with a sharpie.

How can you till which box is the new (2024) AVX, compared to the older AVX???
@DavidDusek
@DavidDusek 5 месяцев назад
It's a little tricky as both boxes are green-toned, but the 2022 AVX box has a large, purple ">" shape pointing to the right side of the box, while the 2024 AVX has no purple arrow shape. If you have a question, ask at the pro shop. - DD

I've played the Titleist Tour Speed for a long time and really liked how it fit my game. With Titleist discontinuing the ball I now found myself searching for something new, but similar. I swing around 100 mph give or take a few and have played the Pro v's in the past. With the higher spin rate of the Pro V series my natural draw would often overcook and I wouldn't play as well. When I found the Tour Speed balls the lower spin rate really seemed to help my game. Accompanied with the not too soft feel of the Tour Speed it really met my game well. Do you think the AVX would be a comparable replacement to the Tour Speed or do you have any other suggestions in mind? Thanks and great videos!

Thanks for the comment. Based on what you wrote, if you want to remain the Titleist stable, I would recommend getting a sleeve of the AVX and a sleeve of the Velocity. They are very different balls and have different price points too. Both will have low spin off the tee, but AVX will give you more spin around the green because it has a urethane cover, while the Velocity has an ionomer cover. That said, Velocity will probably cost about $15 less per dozen. Let me know how it goes. - DD

Tour Speed uses a different, less-expensive urethane cover than AVX, Pro V1 and Pro V1x, which is why those three balls will have more greenside spin than Tour Speed. And a higher price. - DD

these feel most like balata balls than any ball I tried. Great spin around the green and soft feel, unlike the rock like feel of Pro V1X.

If you don't mind me asking, do you mean balata from when the Titleist was a wound rubber ball or a later balata, 3 piece golf ball? I have played since 1969, I miss the "old" balata ball, especially chipping and putting, but also the feel with a full driver.

I've been playing the 1x and avx for about 2 yrs and I don't get a balata feeling from either one. I will say that I do really like the avx though, and I'm looking forward to trying the 24 version tomorrow.

@@dalewier9735 I only used balata from 93 onwards until they stopped being made, as 93 was when I started golf and my handicap was around 5 after 6 months so I started using good balls. I mean it feels a bit elastic kind of balata, like the way the Titleist Tour balata did from the mid 90s. Only Titleist balata balls I used was the Tour balata, and the one before it briefly from 93 and before, which just had "Tour 100" or "Tour 90" on it. I remember finding a couple of "Pro Traj" Titleist balata back then that I used too, I think they were from the 80s. I always found all Pro V1 balls too hard feeling, although they are fine. I miss balata too, especially around the green and on pitch shots. The AVX is definitely softer feeling than all Pro V1 versions and spins as much or more, so Ive started using it.

@@paulthrossell7999 thank you, as it sounds like we had similar games. I started playing in 1969 at 9, playing better softer spinning balls as I played tournament golf in high school and college. Ben Hogan WAS a really soft (but not over compressed) like a wound Titleist in the 70s and 80s. Today I can't spin the ProV1 like I used to and want a little softer ball unless it's above 90°.
@paulthrossell7999
@paulthrossell7999 2 месяца назад
@@dalewier9735 cool, I started playing at 14 in 93, balata balls were not really known by the average golfer then, they were not promoted, it was all about distance balls then. I couldnt believe it when stopped making balata balls around 2000 or 2001. I always found the Titleist Professional ball from late 90s awful, felt soft but didnt spin like balata, it was a wound urethane covered ball, not balata. Im Australian but got a golf scholarship to play in New Mexico at college in usa in 2000, my favourite ball then was the Maxfli Revolution, but the college gave us Titleist Professional balls to use. The Titleist AVX feels a bit like the Maxfli Revolution, soft like that. One of the softest balata balls from the 90s was the Slazenger 420 Interlok balata, but was pretty rare compared to Titleist, Rextar and Maxfli. I have a bad back these days so only swing about 70 percent effort of what I can do, so I have about 100 mph clubhead speed now, so probably need a bit of a lower compression ball. I also dont play much, I played Pebble Beach for the first time last year and had 72 using a Prov1, I didnt know about AVX then.

The results in tests by Myspygolf AVX is a long ball for slower swingers. I am one of them. AVX is the longest ball for me from tee, compared to TM Tour Response, Pro V1 and Pro V1x, Callaway Chrome Soft and more. Usually slower swingers need more spin from tee, but with AVX we get lower spin…but still it is a long ball carry. What are your thoughts about that?
@DavidDusek
@DavidDusek 5 месяцев назад
Jonas, I need to see your launch condition numbers to be able to definitively know why AVX is a longer ball for you than the others you mentioned. That said, low-spin balls are not just good at reducing backspin, but sidespin as well. It might be that you hit the low-spin AVX with less overall spin, including less sidespin, so your shots fly straighter, and therefore you don't lose distance to curvature. Regardless, if you have tested all those balls on the course and found the one that performs best for you ... you're ahead of most golfers. - DD

@jonasmauritzson872
@jonasmauritzson872 5 месяцев назад
@@paulmcgee1867 Yes, it is a lower flight ball, but with a slow swing speed I can’t see the difference compared to ProV1 or Pro V1x. But compared to TaylorMade Tour Response it is lower, despite that a longer ball.

You can add 2-3 strokes a 9 to my score playing the pro V over the AVX, too much spin, too short! As far as I'm concerned the AVX was a longer ball when it first came out but not as soft.
@DavidDusek
@DavidDusek 4 месяца назад
Golf ball performance is amazingly subjective. What is soft to one player is not soft to another. Spin can be measured, and launch angle can be measured. Ball speed can be measured, but "soft" is in the hands and ears of the player. The 2024 AVX has the same compression as the previous model, but the cover is thicker. That's where the added greenside spin comes from. - DD
