Crowds across North America gathered to marvel at the spectacle of the total solar eclipse, as the moon passed between Earth and the sun. EarthCam captured this precisely anticipated yet mysteriously captivating cosmic event.
I live in Dallas and this eclipse gave me goosebumps. It was incredible, beautiful and surreal. The clouds parted just in time for the totality, which lasted for 4 minutes. Just an amazing glimpse of God’s work!
TV cameras are the problem. They see things differently than our eyes, and need more light to catch anything. So, when they turn their lights on (or off), everything around looks very dark. News anchors and people in videos say it looks like a 360° sunset, and these cameras, better adapted to landscape views, show it better.
It actually got almost completely night where I live. It depends on what part of the umbra you are in and whether there are city lights. I live about 30 miles south of Dallas in a more rural community which was right in the center of the path of totality. It was so dark you couldn’t even see the ground - similar to about an hour before sunrise.
