A superb meeting run on a new format of 5 teams from across the country, and it worked really well. With the Northern Knights, Southern Stags, Eastern Eagles, Western Warriors, and the Midland Missiles. The Midland Missiles looked, on paper to have one of the strongest teams for the 1000cc RH Sidecars, with both Mark Cossar/Carl Blyth, Tom Cossar/Wayne Rickards, and Matt Fumarola/Andi Wilson. Could any of the other teams possibly stop them from taking the RH Sidecar division? The Western Warriors looked to have the strongest chance, with Neal Owen/Jason Farwell, Kieran Hicks/Frankie Courtney, and returning to the sport, Robbie Simmons/Ben Schofield, but this is a team event, so it would be the team with the strongest line-up across all classes that would take the overall title, and one such team that could fit the bill for that was the Eastern Eagles, with a very strong 500cc Solo team in Alfie Bowtell, Mickie Simpson, Ryan Kinsley, and Jake Mulford, and in their GT140 team they reigning British Champion Ian Clark, Adam Shipp, Steve Newsham, and Conor Sargeant. In the 1000cc RH Sidecars they had Paul Whitelam/Richard Webb, Dale & Jordan Fish, and Stef & Morgan Blyth. Their 250cc Solo squad was comprised of the flying Ricky Scarboro, Tim Greig, and two youngsters, Austin Riches and Hayden Watts. The 350cc team also looked pretty good, with Jamie Fenn-Smith, Will Thurlby, Daniel Broughton, and Tim Neal. So if they could score consistently, the Eastern Eagles looked to have a great chance, but the programme was packed with top riders for the other teams like the Northern Knights 350cc squad, which had former British Champion Tony Atkin, Jack Roberts,, and John Cox, now that was a strong team.
A 52 race programme with fantastic racing throughout the day in all classes, where all the riders went above and beyond trying to help their team win as many races as possible, and some riders even raced in back to back races. A cracking new format, and a breath of fresh air for British Grasstrack. A slick and well run event, where the crowed also got involved shouting their teams on. A great event with a super atmosphere. Let's hope it continues to grow, and becomes as big a meeting as the old Inter-Centre Team Championships from the 1970's to the early 2000's. You will have to go a long way to see a better days racing than this.
