The Retirement Travelers share their world travel plans as they prepare to travel to some great places in 2024. We discuss our retirement travel highlights of last year's travel to Asia, Europe, and cruises. Our big plans this year include India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, a cruise from Cape Town to Lisbon, Spain, Azores and a trip back to Southeast Asia.
We also discuss our plans for changes to our RU-vid channel and website, where we are creating a new resource called Travel School. Here we will organize all of our Travel How-To content that has been generated from viewer questions over the past several years.

▶️ We started our channel to inspire and share our world travel lifestyle, adventures, and optimistic outlook on life with others. After completing a two-year journey in our Airstream to see all 50 states and 51 National Parks, we left to travel abroad. We have downsized our possessions and sold our home so that we can wander about with only the things in our backpacks.
We love living on the road, traveling each week to a new location. We plan to travel extensively to every part of the world. Ours is not a slow travel lifestyle but rather a vagabondish one. The goal is not to check a country off a list, but to experience it by meeting new people, seeing how others live, and making new friends. We believe in laughing, loving, and living our lives to the fullest.
We are working hard to build a beautiful website where you can get travel information about the places we have been. In addition, we post blog articles to help you travel better. Our channel is a way of augmenting that effort, so sometimes we post videos about how to travel or a vlog showing our lives on the road as we do an activity or an adventure. We also post Shorts, so check those out, too. We hope to entertain you, but most importantly, we want to inspire you and give you the confidence to plan your own adventure around the world.

Found your RU-vid channel a couple of weeks ago and love your content. I retired a couple of years ago and am in my late 60's and I travel with friends. Almost every month in 2024 and 2025, I am either cruising, doing land tours, safari, expeditions and camping. It's all very overwhelming but I feel that I need to see and do as much as I can while my health is good. I am learning to travel with just a carry on which has not been easy in colder climates. Your videos provide a wealth of info that I hope to incorporate into my own travels. I wish you the very best as you travel the globe in 2024.

We're all caught up! I started from video #1 and my husband joined in at the pie-frys (video#7?). It's been so delightful "traveling" with you. We're not watching Travel School because we're couch-bound, so to speak. I live with my almost completely disabled 87-yr-old Mom (Advanced Parkinson's and severe dementia) as her sole caregiver. My husband spends every other week with us. When he's here, we traveled together with you. It was quite a ritual. Looking forward to when you're traveling again.

Anxious to check out the Travel School! I've had friends on your transatlantic cruise and different friends on your Christmas/New Years cruise. They were too shy to introduce themselves, but they knew I followed you on RU-vid and Instagram. I guess it's our turn to find you on an upcoming trip. In that regard, I have an idea for you. Several content creators are using TrovaTrip to host small groups on land tours. I think you'd be a hit with this concept. My husband and I are trying this out this summer in Ireland. I really enjoy your website and videos, I've shared them with many friends, and when first finding you admit to having a binge weekend watching you two. Thank you for all your sharing, the content you put out is so well done. I'll miss your longer travel video's but totally appreciate the time you put into what you are doing, I will watch the shorts and enjoy them. Travel School sounds great, and like others we would like to know any tips and tricks you have on flight planning, and if you use any types of travel credit cards...looking at all your 2024 plans I would imagine you will be earning a "few" travel points. We did a major downsized 3 years ago to lower our living costs, it allowed us to retire earlier and be able to travel more. I've watched your video on how you sold everything, I'm just not there yet, but we might consider renting out our condo, really admire your leap. Thanks for so many ideas, places to go (loved your Indonesia snorkeling video) and your honesty. Oh and I look forward to hearing how you like your new travel bags...I want to purchase a set for our next travels. Take care, Mary

It's great to see that you plan to do parts of Africa in 2024, very few full time travellers seen to do there. If you are in South Africa we recommend - Cape Town and the Winelands, then along the south coast. A highlight for us was that Addo Elephant reserve. We travel internationally yearly (also retired) and we've been to everywhere except Asia. In no way does Asia interest us in the least. I wished someone could/would change my mind it seems that everyone who does go, just loves it.

It is definitely a different mindset than Europe, but the costs are so much lower, interesting cultures and people, along with incredible scenery. I went to Bali and a small island chain in Indonesia in 2022 and this year I went to Singapore and Seoul, South Korea. Loved every one of these visits and hope to visit Asia every year. I would recommend you start in Singapore. Just about everybody speaks English well, lots of western food available, the city is safe and clean. You will get a good snapshot of travel to those countries, although obviously each Asian country has its own individuality. The only other advice is if you cannot stand humidity and heat, you might want to investigate that factor very closely. Even if it turns out Asia is not for you, you will still come away with some unique experiences and stories to share.

First, thank you. My wife and I have enjoyed your channel and learning from you both. Truly fantastic. What app / process do you use to illustrate your travels? It is nice to see going from one place to another, like a slide show, but tons better. I would like to document our 2023 travels in a similar manner. I pulled up Google Earth and only found ways to save points and paths. While an interesting overall picture, it does not flow from one spot to the next. Thank you

I've been following along on your channel for a while but this is my first time commenting. I think the Travel School sounds like a great idea! I have personally been lucky enough as a Scot living in Denmark and travelling quite a lot with work, to have amassed quite a bit of "unusual" travel experience over the years, but not everyone has that opportunity, so I think an initiative like yours could really help give people the confidence to launch themselves into travelling independently. Looking forward to your Travel School content. Also so excited you are going to Cape Town. We spent a month there working in 2017 and it was my favorite place we have ever visited. We finished it off with a trip to Kruger National Park and six year later I still go back and look at my videos from our visit to the park. It was truly amazing.

My main problem with doing this is establishing a base. I don't own, so wouldn't have a home to come back to. I would have to maintain a rental butvwondering how cost effective that would be and if you have any other options.

It was not cost effective for us to rent and we like the simplicity of not owning anything. When we are in the US, we are also traveling between our children's homes and visiting our moms. at @8:00 so nice to hear about your plans for a month in india. i'm from south india and now live in california and love to live vicariously through your videos. hope you have a good stay. since you're already experienced travelers i'm sure you'll know this already but (1) when refusing unwanted offers from people on the street the "no" has to be very assertive and repeated and you can't try to soften it by being nice about it (2) bottled water or a beverage in a can that is opened in front of you is safe anywhere,but any other beverage in any open glass like any juice esp with ice can give you a stomach bug unless it's a really good restaurant. (3) i sometimes try street cart food if it's something piping hot but stay away from anything room temperature or cold like chutneys or salads or raitas or even lassi (4) imodium, don't leave home without it

@@RetirementTravelers We have 11 queen rooms (1 of these is first floor w/ handicap accessible bthrm), 1 king room w/ a twin sleeper chair, and 1 2-room king suite with a queen sleeper sofa in the sitting room. Can sleep up to 29 if there's a head on each pillow! Plus different common areas inside or outside to gather or hang out, of course. If it were only your family, it would be like your own 12,000 sq ft home with a spa downstairs ;-)

For me, the biggest challenge of travel is keeping motivated for the long haul. After a few weeks, I generally feel burned out and jaded from the constant treadmill of sightseeing and planning ahead for more sightseeing. I would love to see some advice about that. I travel solo so don't have your benefit of keeping each other company. I've seen advice such as taking every 8th day off - how do you stay motivated?

Great question. For us it is about finding balance that keeps us motivated. We try to balance travel, creating content, visiting kids, etc. We aren't on "vacation" and don't feel compelled to overextend ourselves and see every single attraction in each place. For long term travel, it's not a vacation - it's a nomadic way of living in our view. There is no need to sightsee if you are staying in places long enough that you can do a bit of that, and the rest of the time is just relaxing and living. Like at home, but in a new environment - and always in our case, with far, far, far less expense. We travel because staying at home is too expensive.

I am ready to go back to school with your travel school. A brilliant idea. I really want to learn all about the logistics of planning out a long-term travel agenda. I love the repositioning cruise idea to get you to those faraway places and then the more affordable internal flights that get you from point A to B. Wow - amazing! We just finished a month in India and it's a lot and definitely not for the faint of heart. We never felt unsafe and always felt so welcomed and treated like royalty. However, by the time we left we were absolutely exhausted ... it's a total sensory overload on all levels. Looking forward to hearing what you think. Enjoy and safe travels.
