the yz is the small block chevy of dirt bikes. There's so many out there you'll be able to get parts for the next 50 years no problem. The aftermarket will support this platform for a long time, because the demand will be there. LOVE IT!!!!!

I bought a YZ85 from my brother, his boys have grown out of it and got bigger bikes, I got it for a mate of mines young bloke, he had one of those Chinese junkheaps, so you can imagine his delight his 1st time riding the YZ! And to your point, luckily his father is a dab hand with motors, 'cause he's had to rebuild it half-a-dozen times!😅 Not sure what year it is, but 3 of my nephews have been THROUGH IT, she's had a thrashing! It's a Hitchcock family eirloom! But you're right, 2-bangers, as long as you can get the parts, fairly simple to rebuild.. I don't touch nothing on the engine of my KX450F, leave that to the experts! I handle everything else, but there's a fine line between saving some bucks by doing it yourself, and paying to have a pro shop and mechanic take care of it. Then if it Lunches itself, it's their fault!😅

@Peace-nb5lm i had a 2019 yz125 and now i have a yz250. Since 2022 yamaha 2 strokes got a more new age valving l, similar to 4 strokes. Personally i prefer the new suspension. I find it more safe and predictable to high speeds jumps etc. But hey, KYB sss and Kyb shocks are pretty much the same since 2005. Its by far the best OEM suspension in the market, everybody loves them and every tuner can make them exactly like you want it in case you have special things you like. In general if you buy Yamaha the least thing you have to worry is suspension...

Completely agree with you Josh M. the two smokers should stay simple. Thier beauty is in their simplicity. Very excited to see what you guys do with the machine. On a side note; I do have the guilty pleasure of watching how far KTM group can push the two stroke. Keep up the great work and there is nothing like hearing a two stroke on Monday morning.

Consider 3 builds, Stage 1 pipe & Silencer and Reed upgrade. Stage 2 Add Apex head or other head mods. Stage 3 Go big with porting and Carb like an Lectron. That would be a huge series that all YZ smoker guys would love. There are many thousands out there for sure.
@caseyhitchcock1002
@caseyhitchcock1002 7 месяцев назад
Or buy a bigger bike? And save yourself the constant headaches of it Lunching itself.. They go like the clappers as is, if you want more power, get a 450. The price of the parts you've mentioned alone would cover a decent chunk of the cost, not to mention the "not spending a fortune maintaining the f*cker".. Unless you're a Top-line rider, and plan on racing it, it's pointless imo.. Pipe and muffler, ok, but that's approx. $1000 there, for a relatively minor gain, New head/head mods, porting an polishing, ahh, forget it, not worth the money and effort. These modern ones, you stand to get more performance by tweaking the ECU and that, and setting the suspension and chassis up correctly.. Once upon a time guys used to play around with those kind of upgrades. And even more often, they used to end up in a thousand bits in the shed! Fix one thing, and something else would crap out.. Like any engine, better to run them within their design parameters, motocross bikes are designed for racing anyway, it's a fools errand to try and squeeze more horsepower out of them generally.. The Japanese have been building them fir a long time now, they know what they're doing!😊 Might as well buy a bike shop and employ a mechanic, if you're going to go to those lengths.. Spend more time fixing it than riding it!😮😢😅

FMF Expansion pipe and silencer, $600 U.S. Lectron carby, $550 U.S. Apex cylinder head kit, $365 U.S. Vforce reed cage and reeds, $160 U.S. Port, Polish, labour, approx. $500 U.S, that's nearly $2200 U.S., unless you've won the lotto, or you can seriously ride, it's a nonsense. Just get a 450 and be done with it mate! You'd only need to scratch up another $1k or so, and you could buy a good late-model 2nd hand!😮😊

I picked up a 76 Yamaha IT400 back in October before winter came. It's a mutt and it's missing stuff which is typical for an almost 50 year old bike. But it runs and it'll be well worth the wait when I finally get to ride it. Just waiting for winter to go away so I can work on it. I'm a big fan of the old air cooled engines, no power valves to waste time with adjusting and no worrying about your water pump crapping out on you. 😁

Do a budget build. Can you race prep this for less 1k and take it racing. What's going to make the biggest difference for the money?? Pipe/silencer Head cut for race gas Respring for weight if needed (no valving) Should be under a grand.

@barkeep25 7 месяцев назад
Sorry don't mean to be a buzzkill but you don't need straight race gas on a stock motor, the compression isn't that high. Some of the older models could use a splash, the heads with 5UP stamped on them had the highest compression. If you want a boost in power without messing with anything buy some vp T2, it's oxygenated and premixed but you might need to go bigger on the main.

1. Suspension 2. Pipe/silencer 3. Cut the head The yz is a ripper and the rest comes down to rider ability.

@kdcustoms1272 7 месяцев назад
@@kruse1105can definitely get a boost by cutting the head. It's only like $60. I prefer 2 heads. Leave 1 head stock for 93 cut the other one for 110.. you don't need 110 for a stock head though, 50/50 of 93 and 110 is good though if you jet it right.

Just throw full pc pipe, v force reed cage, billet head (phathead, maybe), update to HD clutch springs, gytr flywheel, JD jet kit, and do some valving (no gold valves). Basically do an everymans build and compare it to the stocker on lap times.....and maybe have some extra "guest" test riders to help out (pick me lol). We all love the gnarly custom builds but 99% of us can never afford anything close to those. This way its a great example of what us blue collar guys can afford and still have a sweet build....all without getting served divorce papers haha.

Back in the 80s and 90s, I used to put a Pro Circuit pipe and once bought an engine for a CR from them. So a Pro circuit pipe, a GYTR engine,some suspension work and Hinson clutch would be nice. While you’re at it through in some nice pegs, renthal bars and sprockets, nice rims and hubs and Arc levers. That should do it.

They kinda did. The 250x has wider ratios with a tall 5th gear and softer valving, kickstand, 18" wheel. Flywheel weight is cheap and easy and there are several vendors of large tanks. The differences don't sound like a lot but they add up to a very different feeling bike that is really versatile.

@carltonholmes8061 Shame about your injuries stopping you racing MX. The 1988 YZ250 was the first bike I raced. I then had the 1990 YZ250, then the 1991 YZ250, and then changed to a 1992 Honda cr250. Went back to Yamaha YZ250 in 1994 which was my last bike until I took up Motocross again at the ripe old age of 50. 😀👍

Please build an off-road race bike out of the YZ250 or the YZ250X! Something for the WORCS or NGPC series!

I love how Yamaha keeps its 2-stroke bike pure, without useless electronics, a kick, and off we go

I mean Yamaha pulled the plug and redesigned the 125 engine, could and would it happen to the 250, albeit the package is good? They should. The yz 250 is the peoples bike. Solid video as usual MXA.

I'd like to see a revival of the 1985 N or 1986 S red and white appearance.

My dad bought me a brand new 2001 yz 125 when I was in high school. God damn it was fast would power wheelie in 6th gear. God I loved that bike. Today I'm so grateful for my dad giving me that bike. I didn't race just freeriding and pissing off the neighbours. One of my biggest mistake selling it to buy a 250. Dad got pissed off I sold it so he kept the money😂 next year I'll be 40 and will finally get me that 250😅
