I have been a Pete guy since I was a kid going on my dad's 1971 cabover 352 (318 Detroit) in the summer loved every minute. I've owned myself a 359. 377. 379, 389 are great too. This new 589 has the classic looks it's a good-looking truck, it is 2023. 50 years have gone by you could still have spring suspension; air powered wipers, air assist steering now that's classic if you like. I will take a new quiet, riding on air comfort.
I'm noticing what is So Unique, now that makes it a 359, 379 & 389 is the...Split-Windshield. That's gone forever. So glad I have my 2015 PETE 389 and try to keep her going as long as I can with extra good maintenance & service at the shop when needed...Rest in Peace Split-Windshield, they done us dirty for-sure...Come-On !
I think with some touches here and there it will be a decent unit. Like you noted about the heat shields not dropping down to cover the elbow neck-down, the flex pipe in the stack, etc. I can’t really see how a drop visor is going to work with that mirror placement, but that got worked around on the 389 as well. Time will tell.
Awesome looking truck! The self adjusting clutch is due to the hydraulic clutch, because there is no longer linkage and no adjustment for freeplay or clutch brake.
Im driving 2023 W990 and this truck is exactly the same just smaller tighter interior on 589 and different exterior. I personally love w990 because it rides and hauls like a dream❤❤❤ the old 389 is dead!
Agreed. Kenworth dropped the ball with the W990, it looks terrible in my opinion. It's nothing like the W900. This 589 while not perfect, looks a whole lot better and actually still mostly resembles the 389 atleast. I prefer the W900 over the 389, but definitely would much rather this 589 over the W990.
is their a 589 flat top? Peterbilt's still the GOAT, this is a nice truck, it's kind of sad to see the 389 go but this is decent, hopefully still available in flat top?
I always love the 389 and I didn’t buy it back the because it looked so outdated. Now I’m seen this truck and it kept the nice classic look which I believe is so awesome but with the technology from a 579 which is super super awesome. I can but it now but how the economy is I rather wait. But the truck is one of the best ones on the market
I like it but most of the older school guys are not going to like the interior but come on things and time change In the future everyone will love them
I wonder if a 5th battery could be put in that step box. Can never have too many batteries if you don’t roll with an APU. If the Texas bumper is on there you’d have to go with the square lights imo.
What is that look down mirror for?? I see a lot of trucks with that and I don't get why anyone would use that mirror. My best guess is to see if the step is still on the truck while your driving down the road lol.
I have a 567 and that windshield is a terrible rock catcher. And replace the whole piece of glass instead of either side. Luckily I was able to order one of the last 389’s. This is a huge change and I’m not a fan, lots more room but def paccar threw a curve ball with this model.
So many were not happy about this new model. I like it. Once the aftermarket guys get on board this will be awesome. I really want to drive one . I like the way you spec your trucks Steve. Keep up the good work. 💪🏁🇺🇸
As far as im concerned when we talk about and hear about shortages in the vehicle, truck markets its all about keeping production down and prices up. Its ridiculous. Great video as always but I this might have to be something that grows on you..
@SteveCarbone If not and things start to normalize that would be great. I just feel if people are back working we should be able to see inventory and prices come back down. That's all I was saying. Thanks for the reply
The more I see current Pete’s the more I miss the sexy as fk Pete’s I came up with as a driver and mechanic especially the corvette dash 359’s And badd ass flat top long hood 379’s
Great video Steve!! I’ve bought two 567 and ordered them with full gauge packages within the digital gauge cluster which can be modified to each driver’s preferences and ordered them with the little shelf where the navigation screen would normally be. My drivers really like that space to put wallets and notebooks. Can you explain why you prefer bolts on the frame instead of huck bolts? Thanks
I don’t see what the problem is. This is a great looking truck, and the aftermarket is only going to make it look even more so. But even on its own, this is a sharp looking machine.
Nice ride I hate to be Negative. Huge disappointment with not having a window on the back sleeper. Not sure how Peterbilt thought they could do away with that option. I would be inclined to send it back or have an after market installed. Will be a definite hurt on the resale Value. Nice ride though didn’t like it at 1st but I can see how Nice of a ride they can be if spec correctly 👍👍👍👍
I’m sorry the new stuff is junk. It cost way too much money. You could buy a house for that amount of money and it just doesn’t last billed me a 389 without the digital dash in an 18 speed ultra shift automatic that’s what I want.
I don't see why Peterbuilt doesn't come out with an Aero type frontend for that cab and sleeper. (without the humungous wheelbase) Those may look cool but.....
its crazy 2025?.heck my son just got a pete 2024 dark forest green ext nose midroof brand new its got 20000 miles on it its a 18 speed manual performance x15 suddenly a week out his fuel milage dropped to 3 something is wrong with it so its in shop this weekend the owner doesnt want it driven till thats figured out my son said its way more powerful than his 22 pete he had and more stabile in the wind
Why? Why do all automotive engineers think they need to change all the time? You have a proven winner with 379 389s , they sell as fast as you can build them. Why piss off ur loyal customers? They can improve them without bastarizing them.
I hate that Peterbilt made this truck. It doesn't look like a truck in the inside. It looks like a minivan inside. I grew up wanting be a truck driver because Peterbilt looked like a truck should. I didn't want to grow up driving a minivan. I know Peterbilt said they talked to truck drivers. But they didn't talk to the real truck drivers. They talked to foreigners and truck drivers who hate driving trucks. No this isn't like when they changed to 379,389. They made the truck look like a minivan with a 389 hood. The one thing I remember the most about trucks when I was a kid was opening the door. The door handles actually looked like a truck door handle. Now it looks like a car. I hate when the have people design things that they actually don't care about. Some guy thought of this that actually doesn't care about truck driving
You use the word hate in your opinion way too many times for me, cool out, it is what it is. If its not for you find something that is. Thanks for watching.
Seriously, its still 2023, how in the world could they make 2025's yet?!? They do the same thing in the automotive world as well, drives me crazy at my job!
It’s really sharp. But that damn wood grain is absolutely hideous. Carbon fiber would have been a great! And like you said the 2” inches on the exhaust to cover that reducer.
The manufacturing industry has messed up the original look of the 389 Smh 😢If you have a 389 hold on to what you got just looking at the windows it’s not the same truck I’m use to seeing
