The Firebird is my all time favorite car and brand. Owned multiple Pontiacs over the years. As an original owner of a 1989 formula 350….BRING BACK A V8 gas powered FIREBIRD.

A new Pontiac as a Firebird YES, but with and engine that is and improved version of Pontiacs V8 how doe's a tunnel port overhead cam Ram Air 5 sound, like a Hemi killer, if only had GM let Pontiac loose , in 1963. We would have seen overhead cam V8s than.

I think a good compromise would be a V6 with hybrid electric boost. This combo could easily produce 500+ horsepower, but provide the low end torque of electric assist with better fuel economy as a bonus.

There is a company in Florida that already makes a Firebird/TransAm and they bought the rights to the Pontiac Firebird/TranAM name from General Motors. The company is Trans Am Worldwide and made a few different versions based off the popular ones from back in the day. They have a Bandit limited edition signed my Burt Reynolds and a supper duty one. They are build from the Camaro and have new drive trains, molded body panels and interiors. They are now coming out with a 70/SS based off the 1970 Chevelle Supper Sport. I don’t think they have the rights to the Pontiac Firebird or TransAm name anymore, but who’s to say they didn’t team up with them or even buy the branding back. I would love to see the TransAm come back, I have one of each. A red ‘86 TransAm and a blue ‘87 Iroc-Z.

Clearly what makes sense is the 6.6 litre l8p crate engine. Plus 500hp the legendary 6.6 moniker. Its obviously a match made in heaven! imo

It's hard understanding that when.. the two F-bodied models were virtual twins when first introduced to the masses(1967). Sometimes I wondered why major car companies stop producing their popular models to begin with or totally ruin a model (4dr. Charger?). Now, I'm told they want to make Crossover, 4dr. Dream on. There is no profitable market for any of the Big 3 to return to manufacturing muscle cars. That era was a short lived moment in time that will never be captured again. I lived it and I loved it. I sold new muscle cars in the era. Pontiacs and Chevrolets. The insurance companies and the oil conglomerates killed the muscle car. Today's buying public is too conservative and practical to give up their SUVs (modern day station wagons). I am 76 years young and my summer driver is a 2015 Chevy SS.

A muscle car must have a V-8 . There is much more than JUST power, the vehicle must have the sound and vibration. If it's not broke don't fix it

I honestly think Pontiac should bring back 4 models! the Grand Am with the 2.7 turbo, the Grand prix with the v6 or optional 6.2, and the Firebird !!! I think the Grand am and Grand Prix should be priced relatively affordable for people to purchase without breaking the bank! The Firebird should be priced competitive with what the Camaro is at!

If they brought it back 5.3L V8 revive the 3.8L V6 in naturally aspirated and supercharged and throw in a turbo 4 in the mix have the historically bullet proof V6 as the standard engine and pair it to their 10 speed auto as standard with a reliable automatic from the past and a 6 speed manual as optional you bring back the G8 as the Bonneville or grand am/prix and some new crossovers that are unique enough to not look badge engineered. Bring back Firebird/Trans AM and a few select nameplates.

Let's look at some very obvious reasons as to why the Firebird will never come back 1) it's always been based on the Camaro platform, which GM is discontinuing 2) GM got rid of Pontiac because they wanted to eliminate brand redundancy; bringing back Pontiac would go against that

I love Pontiac too. I had 4 of them, but this fake ad was created by Car & Driver to create buzz/attention FOR Car & Driver magazine that's really not doing so hot. They've gone from a monthly to a bimonthly, and the next level down is a quarterly, like Motor Trend. To answer the question of why would C & D to to all the trouble of doing this, that's why. The ad is kind of like the bellowing Orwellian screen from an extremely well known film, to give the little man behind the curtain some attention. It's getting it now, but this too shall pass. What gimmick will be next, or will they make a series out of these. Car magazines are dying out like the film industry. Everything's all over with, and no one has the guts to say it, so I just did.

GM has nothing in the foreseeable future to compete against Ford or Dodge as Chevrolet's plan for the Camaro is to make it a guess what?..an EV. What better to fill that gapping hole then with..oh! Also when the Firebird and the Camaro first came out anyone could afford them, only the well off can afford these fake muscle cars.
