Can I just take a moment to say thank you for having someone on with older kids! My husband and I have a 16 year old and 11 year old and we foster all ages. It is nice to hear some experience from another parent about parenting older kids. I can relate to some of what she said. We spared the rod, but not the discipline. Love your channel guys!

Great episode! Regarding technology, my husband and I use our computers for as many tasks as we can (including news, e-mails, research, business etc.) He uses a computer in the office, I use a laptop in my bedroom. We literally just use our phones for communication. Occasionally I check my social media but I just spend a few minutes and then put it down again. So our children don't see us spending time on our phones. Hope this helps someone!

Oh, I have loved Jodi Mockabee for years! I found her 6 years ago on Instagram when my oldest was a baby and God used her work with Wild and Free to point me to homeschool our kids, and be so excited for it, which I am so thankful for! I have also been so encouraged and inspired by the way she and her husband lead their kids. This was a great interview and I have several takeaways. Thank you!!

I'm not a parent, but I want to speak to my own experience as a teenager after listening to this. I had friends about 3 years older than me when I was a teenager, and at that point they had already gotten into the addiction phase of drugs and regretted it. Those kind of pictures, and a friend who kept me from peer pressure helped all of those things be unattractive to me. On the other had, my sister had friends exactly her own age, so they got interested in partying all at the same time when it appeared to be fun and inconsequential. For these reasons, I'm considering if I were to become a parent, I would keep the safeguards on until 15 or 16 to give the kids a chance to 1. use technology in a habitually healthy manner, and 2. get a chance to learn from the mistakes of their peers prior to taking their training wheels off.

God is so patient in the Old Testament! I mean He gave so many warnings before consequences. He was so patient with Abraham’s and Moses’ questioning.

I agree! His grace shows through all over the OT. Especially in the Levitical system where he puts systems by way of the priests and High Priests in place for forgiveness and to get back in relationship with Him! But I understand the picture Jodi was paining! 💛💛

"Spare the rod and spoil the child" is misquoting the Bible. Maybe just a simple mistake, but its a good idea to correct mistakes like that and clarify.

Curfew needed if kids are just hanging out without a constructive purpose. Watching movies or going to the movie theater to me is hanging out. A child left to himself causes his mother shame, per the Bible. I have raised and homeschooled two wonderful adult kids already. Each is now in their 30's with kids of their own. For the most part, curfew was a non issue in our home. The lifestyles my kids were engaged in at the time just seemed to keep them in places of productive activities where I knew they were ok, should it involve a really late night. However, I would have never consented to a non curfew if they were just involved in more trivial pursuits. One can be reasonable and consider details for a given activity , but one must also be wise.

There is extreme porn on snap chat. My college age son found that out the hard way. College friends post crazy stuff.

I feel like someone needs to gently tell her the truth of what Snapchat really is. You’re so right. It’s not just what the friends are posting. There is an entire “explore/news” page that is loaded with straight up pornography. I really challenge her to ask her children why having an app that the messages disappear is so appealing to them. The pornography that’s on Snapchat in specific is pretty much unavoidable.

@Emma Fox I think her son needs to be challenged on the idea that he must have this app to communicate. Popularity of the app doesn't make it necessary. You just tell people I don't use snapchat, text me.

Why have so many kids if you are going to have them wear Pjs with holes on them , because you don't want to spend time doing laundry ? Sorry not being judgmental but I am curious. I like a simple life so I said I will only have one kid and pour myself into that one kid
@steffa648
@steffa648 Год назад
At that point I’d throw the holey pjs out and have them at least wear a decent one. Living simply doesn’t mean you need to wear rags. We are still representing Christ to people.

First impression: how can she not know how long she’s been married? We need to ask her husband? 😮 Secondly: ‘spare the rod spoil the child’ is a misquote of the Bible, it’s not the full picture.

Yes, the rod a shepherd uses is to Guide not hit the sheep! A good Shepherd never needs to hit lambs and sheeps, like a good horseman knows how to guide a horse without violence

How many years ago did you graduate from Highschool? How many years ago did accept Christ? Not everyone has a head for dates. It has nothing to do with "Basic maths".

@@thepuffinpanda9139 Hey, I think when you come on a podcast you know you have to introduce yourself and tell your audience about your marriage and kids. I think she should worded her uncertainty differently as these very first few words make or break her podcast and her potential readers.
