To all my You Tube friends Thank you very much for your warm and empathic welcome! I really feel very much honoured by you our YT community. First of all I'm fine and as well my family. The reason why I can not post new videos on a regular basis is simply due to extremely limited time. We all need to do business for our living and YT is only a hobby. I do not earn money on YT and I don't want to even in the future. And to be honest I never would earn money on YT to make a living out of it due to my bad English as a matter of fact. But I love to give a bit enthusiasm to the radio community for the fascinating radio engineering. Therefore I stay posting in English even it is not good. But that way we can reach the world. If I earn an nice feed back as I always got from you all my dear YT friend it is more than I want. So I have to apologize that I need to concentrate to pay my bills first to feed my family... Nevertheless I try to post videos when ever I can. Hope you will still support me in the fantastic way you did in the past. Stay safe and healthy even in this crazy times. All the best from Peter 73's
Dear Peter... We love your English.. That is known as Peter English.. We from Asia are more comfortable with your English than from concentrated English.. Keep going.. Take your own time.. We will wait for you... ❤❤❤
You English is just fine. Can certainly understand needing to earn money to support your family. Glad to hear all is ok. I think some of us were worried. Anyway as long as you post I will support it. Your videos are really educational. In fact I've gotten back into repairs because of you. We will be here to watch when you are able to post. Take care and stay safe in this crazy world we have right now.
Hey Peter, have you though about setting up a Patreon account? I really do enjoy your videos and would really love to see more of them and support you in making them via a regular donation. I'm very sure many other people see this the same way.
Welcome back Peter. It is getting late this evening so I won’t have a chance to watch your new video until tomorrow morning, but I just wanted to say that is is so good to hear your voice. You have been missed!! Thank You!, Earl VE7QJ
Thank you Peter for coming back. I really appreciate your knowledge, I learned a lot from You. Thank you very much and I look forward to the next movies.
Peter Welcome back and glad to see and hear you are doing well! Thank you for all the wonderful information you have shared over the years, I look forward to all your videos when you have time.
Nice to see you again Peter! I was thinking about your videos today as I was driving to work, and here we are, when I get home, a new video! Fantastic!
Peter thank you for taking the time to make these videos and pass along the knowledge. I live the way you go over every step and make it understandable. You English is great and better than some people I know that English is their only language. Family comes first and that includes being able to provide for them financially. You have the best videos on radio repair. I hope you consider a way for people to help you with Patreon or other process.
Great to see you back Peter. I’ve missed you and your videos a lot as have most of our community. Nice little device you have made. I’m sure it will save a lot of repair bills for people and looks nice and easy to build. All the best Graham👍🏻
I use an ARB-704 to isolate the radio PTT sent from my Ameritron AL80B key input. I don't think the coild voltage is that high BUT the relay coil kickback can damage the radio PTT send. You see, I have used my Yaesu 747 (I know you have one of those Peter), a Yaesu FT-950 and now a Yaesu FTDX3000. In all cases, I believe a transistor is used to ground the amp's relay coil. If I am not mistaken, I think the amp's coil voltage is 10v (or maybe 16v?). And the current is just a few milliamps and most modern transceivers can handle it. The problem is, the inductive surge of turning on/off the relay coil. If fact, sometimes the diodes on those snubber circuits fail open and you never know that happened. So Ameritron markets the ARB-704 for those who want to play it safe and it is a bit more complex than your single transistor circuit but it is basically the same principle where the output transistor on the radio sources a larger external transistor to absorb the 1) diode kickback and 2) is also rated at 120V DC or so for the older amps like the Kenwood in your video. I am most familiar with Yaesu and for all I know, the other brands of radios use small relays as you mention, rather than transistors for grounding the amp relay circuits. Another thing is the ALC connection between radio and amp; of course older amps need adjusting. I think Yaesu rigs use -4v (or-5v) as maximum ALC voltage and Ameritron can source -10v. That may or may not be enough to damage the ALC in the radio but it may have damaged my FT-950 ALC. My AL80B is older and does not have the 5K pot to adjust ALC voltage so I built my own. However, I may not have set it correctly. My FT=050 finals did eventually die for some reason (after 12 years) and that is the only thing I can think of that may have caused it. My max ALC coming from the AMP may have been around 10v to the radio. Anyway, thanks MUCH for your videos and GLAD to see you are back again. I look forward to more of your material, by far the most professional and instructive I have seen on radio repair! BTW I will not use the AL80B AMP with my FTDX3000 (similar PA stage is FT-950) until I have this figured out. I did replace the finals on the 950 and all is well with that now but I do not want to use the amp with that one either!
Lovely to see you're well and making videos. I've repaired a couple of radios that were quite badly damaged by older amps, fortuantely I don't see it often as the older valve amps don't seem to be that common but I suspect that would make it more likely that people wouldn't know about the possibility of damage.
Peter, it’s good to see you again. Just keep making videos when you can and we’ll watch them. Your accent is part of you and part of what people like about your videos. Thanks again.
Hi Peter, Good to see a video. I had wondered if you meet with an accident. The video has very good information. I have a Heathkit SB220 amplifier and installed the Harbach Electronics Soft-Key Keying Interface to use with my Yaesu FT-450. I have upgraded my license to Extra and changed my call from WB3BJU to WJ3U. You and your family stay safe.
Glad to see you are OK Peter. I was worried something bad happened, but can understand the lack of time. I always enjoyed your videos.. Again, glad to see you are OK and in good health !
Wow, great to see you back Peter! I've been thinking about you recently and watching all your old videos. This is a great tip and an interesting circuit you designed. Thanks and I hope all has been well during your absence.
Glad to see you are ok... I have really missed your videos Peter, and your English is just fine no worries there my friend !! Understand the need to make a living to be sure but still nice to see you again May you and your family have a blessed upcoming holiday season and throw us a video when you can, it Was great to see this one Stay well and i look forward to seeing more or perhaps hearing you in the bands with thensun waking up 73 my friend from Jeff de WD8JM
Great subject, this is becoming a very popular discussion, with all the new radios being so affordable, they are very popular, which also means people are using the older amps because they are so robust and also affordable, keep up the great videos Peter, very educational. !!!!!!
Peter it is good to see you back and O.K. with what is going on in the world today!! I am so happy!! Good point in this video !! Thanks!! John Bellas KC2UVN 73's see you soon!!
Peter, glad to see you back on RU-vid. We all missed you! With all that is going on right now with COVID and all, I wouldn't expect anything less than family first from you. Don't stay away as long this time. BTW, your English is just fine! Now my German, that's another thing altogether. Guten abend.
Man I'm glad to see you are still alive Peter. I wish my German was as good as your English. Merry Christmas. The HF portion of the TS2000X is relay switched, 6M and up is solid state. Thanks for coming back.
What a great thing to find, a notification on my phone saying Peters Back!!!. As usual a interesting video always learn something from the Master. Welcome Back Peter if it's only for a brief visit have a super Christmas if you can. 73's from me take care.
