From what I know, though I am not sure, the train was rerouted because of works on the Arad-Simeria and the Sighișoara-Brașov parts of that line. On those sections there is only used one track, not both, so because of the huge delay gained from Vienna, it would have been pretty hard to also put this train there without delaying others. I think around 2026 or 2027, those works will be finished so from Curtici to Brașov it will all be 160 kmh. Nice video!👍

I'm an erasmus student in Cluj-Napoca (Transylvannia, Romania) and as we have a 50% reduction on domestic train we often take those to go to Bucharest, Oradea or Budapest. Always a pleasure, especially with the Maggyar trains, which have the best restaurant coach. The view is always amazing and you have a spot at the rear of the last coach where you can admire the track and the landscape. Très bonne vidéo !

We spent a ton of money to make the services great again, and it's working! The business lounge got renovated, more and more trains have some form of on board service, a buffet just got opened on a suburb line, more and more snack machines are appearing here and there. It was probably an expensive rebranding, but totally worth it!

Wien Hbf has to be one of the greatest stations in the WORLD. Last August, I spent a couple hours at the end of platform 5/6 just watching trains arrive and depart. It was mesmerizing hearing all of the Tauruses and their singing traction motors. When I think of what modern railways can be, I think of that station.

@@Mihai_Bike I have never been to Beijing but most of the new railwaystation have very much an airport vibe from the things I have seen. They are surely great and the huge modern HSR network is something Chinese can be proud of but I honestly prefer the more human scale design of eg the Vienna mainstation. That said, a station for a 2 mio city can be more easily of human scale compared to one of giant metropoles with 10, 20 or maybe even more inhabitants. In terms of international service Wien Hbf is certainly a good example and China probably hasn't examples like it, given that no single station is served by operators from so many different countries.

When I went to Europe in 1976, I visited 11 countries on the Continent - on EuRail Pass - almost all on night trains! My idea was to sleep on the trains and visit the cities in the daytime. There were some nights, however, when I did check into a youth hostel. And I took the occasional day train.

That was my idea as well when I did my interrail (it's the same as eurail, just as it's called differently for europeans vs non-europeans) last summer. However, unfortunately, I could just pack in 2 night trains (and theoretically could have packed in a 3rd one) in a 7-day ticket. Unfortunately, the night trains are still kind of out of service in most parts of Europe, though that is very slowly changing for the better.
@Whitbypoppers

@@jonathanadorjani3838 I had only recently heard that overnight trains had not been a thing for a couple of decades. Shocking! Of the twenty-one days I used the pass, I spent about eight nights in youth hostels. That meant that I missed days in Hamburg, Florence, and Bordeaux. My only real regret I had about that trip was that I didn’t keep a journal. Also, from a pre-digital point of view (I was taking slides), I didn’t take nearly enough pictures. I filled a 140-slide carousel from a 45-day trip!

I'm always ashamed and pissed that I cannot travel from Bucharest to Cluj-Napoca or Timisoara without it being a 10h+ journey. On a brighter note, the 100km segments that take 3:30h from Sighisoara to Brasov are under construction to do 160kmh. Also, Bucharest-Timisoara is about to get reworks , so it won t be so bad for long. Even more, CFR is undergoing changes in leadership and structure, investments in new carts and powertrains, and so on. Maybe it will work out for the better this time :). I hope when these projects will be done, you will have a great time rolling through our country :).

Very cool trip and very cool landscapes. CFR is undergoing restructuring and modernization and in a couple of years you'll get to Brasov from Budapest/Curtici in no time. Only we need to kick Austria out of Schengen so Romania could join it. (and Hungary and Poland stay in it as they have a problem with these two countries being part of Schengen). I am saying kick it or it to leave Schengen because as things stand now, Austria is the only country in EU that has problems with others when it comes to Schengen, so we can just invite them out so us, the rest of the world, can join peacefully. :) That way, you'll enjoy the Schengen area from the Atlantic Ocean to the Black Sea rolling through miles and miles and miles of tracks, train wheels sounds and tasty meals on board the restaurant car!

The reason for the delay at the departure is that the train arriving from Cluj-Napoca got delayed by more than 2 hours (seen at 2:19). Originally Dacia had all its stock resting in Vienna through the day, since it arrives in the morning and goes back in the evening - including the passenger (seating) cars attached/detached at Budapest. Then MAV came up with the idea of using the CFR and MAV passenger cars of Dacia to assemble another train that leaves Vienna in the morning a couple of hours after Dacia arrives, goes through Budapest to Cluj where it arrives in the evening. This replaces one of the MAV trains on the Budapest - Cluj route and doesn't let the rolling stock idle. Next day the train leaves Cluj in the morning and arrives to Vienna in the afternoon, in time for the passenger cars to be rotated into Dacia again. The drawback is that a delay of one of the trains can affect the other.

The only arguably decent piece of railway is the one towards Constanta from Bucharest and perhaps Bucharest - Ploiesti. Everything else is under constant repairs and alleged upgrades or abandoned. I used to commute for about 10 years on the Craiova - Bucharest corridor and I´ve seen and lived through all their promises but most of all endured big delays. It was always a mystery when the train leaves and when it arrives. Each bridge had speed restrictions and there are plenty on this portion. Accelarate-brake, accelerate-brake. Nothing delivered, ever. It´s one of the many reasons why I left the country for good in the end. I will never regret it. Good video, I´m glad you enjoyed the trip.

There were faster options, but someone in our group decided it would be cool if we took the slow, scenic route as well. It was a huge mistake. After a few hours locked into one of these tin cans you really run out of things to do and you start contemplating on the meaning of life. After you realize your socks are literally glued to your feet and that the air conditioner is not working you wonder why are you friends with that guy to begin with

Really excellent video and for the Romanian Sleeper Car there can be an opportunity to attach it to the Kalman Imre sleeper train Budapest Keleti Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof originally operated as Budapest Keleti München Hbf with through coaches to Bucharest 1990s-mid 2010s. Perhaps SNCF should buy them too for domestic sleeper train services if the old stock needs to be replaced. Wien Hbf opened from 2012-2015, and ÖBB Baureihe 1144 has a nickname the alpenstaubsauger Alpine Vacuum cleaner due to its electric brake. Next week is Pikes Peak Rack Railway Colorado, which has the Abt Rack system replaced by Strub Rack. For the Reroute it might be due to the fact that the Normal route is due for Modernization and ETCS from the original Indusi I60.

The reason for rerouting is the upgrading the tracks on M200(Ro/Hu Border-Brasov) for speeds up to 160 km/h (100 mph), but is curios that they took the train on M900 (Timisoara-Craiova-Bucharest) because is much slower than the previous route. I love the trains, but CFR is slower in upgrading rolling stock and railways, i live in Cluj Napoca and my hometown is 120 km away, the train si taking almost 4 hours, and i prefer to drive. If the rail quality will be good, i'll take the train with every time.

You got "robbed" of 90 euros for a dusty and broken room - the night attendant saw you and took you for a fool. Besides that, I enjoy your content very much - happy travels and keep posting 👍

I don't agree with that. He gave me correct rate for the sleeping car. He might have kept for himself but I was more than happy to be in the sleeping car and that's all that matter. I have never seen an attendant giving away a free compartment to a stranger just because it's not occupied! Plus I'm not a railway employee...

Nice. I liked it. Your map is not quite right, the railway line reaches the bank of the Danube at Orsova, not at Moldova Noua, as your map shows :), but it's ok.

Pity it wasn't an AVA200 sleeping car of ASTRA Arad, they are new and very modern, some even compare them to Nightjet's Comfortlines. This one is just a modernized Görlitz sleeper. Probably this is the reason why there were empty compartments in the end - different configuration.

Is it possible to travel in a seat the whole way from Vienna to Bucharest or is sleeping compartments compulsory?

We are from South Carolina, USA, and will be taking the Dacia the other direction, from Brasov to Vienna, in a few weeks. As there is no longer a dining car, can you tell me (or show pictures) of the snack car?
@SergiuC..
@SergiuC.. Год назад
I would say that the route towards Brasov is more scenic and faster than the one along the Danube. Also, you mentioned the Astra train you want to check. They founded their own private company called Astra Trans Carpatic with brand new carriages being built (green with yellow just for reference if you look for it). Even in 2nd class the seats are just awesome. They usually operates from Arad (western side of Romania) to Bucharest. And they have these private compartments as well. Maybe you can give it a try.

Ive done part of this route. You were lucky the train was rerouted. The passport check is a problem for this route ironically caused by the Austrian government. I think RO gets Schengen in 24 which would make this route via Vienna more attractive. There are better trains leaving directly from Budapest
@SimplyRailway
@SimplyRailway Год назад
Agreed! The trains from Budapest are way better and efficient. Can't wait to see RO in Schengen

The train looks more like a normal regional train and the equipment is quite poor for an international train. The 2nd class seems much too cramped. The 1st class seats could be wider and more thickly padded. Can the seats be adjusted at all? Compartment cars with light switches and curtains/blinds are best 👌

Well, the Danube is not the longest river in Europe. Actually, it's just the third longest. 2nd is Dnipro and the longest is the Volga river

12:34 I think that the reason why the train was so slow was because the train was going through the Balota hill. The worst portion of track in the country. Or I think that’s Balota hill.

Come on, spare me! I went by train through the country and it is not exactly as it is being hailed in an extremely negative way. Romania has a rather "bushy" and large railway network that is difficult to maintain and needs a lot of money and time to be modernized. I like to go by train through the country and I didn't feel the need to complain but to enjoy the landscapes of this wonderful country.😁
