Warning! Do not try anything you see in this video at home. I have a lot of knowledge and experience.
Also security measures have been taken that can not be seen by inexperienced people at first sight.

Absolute madness. Wonderful transformer and arcs! Can't wait to get myself a distribution trafo, these PTs are getting boring (or rather I'm just scared that I'm gonna pop the little thing)
@herrlito-hv
@herrlito-hv Год назад
Tank you! Where are you from ? There are these Pole Pigs in the USA. I'd really like to have one of these but it is very difficult to get one in Germany. I like your monster PT :)
@inductivelycoupledplasma6207
@@herrlito-hv thanks! The PT is huge (about the weight of a 5kVA pig), weighs about 160kg, but only supplies about 3kVA continuously. I live in the UK where single phase pole trafos are only found in rural regions. Would love to have one (maybe 15kVA), but they're too expensive and hard to come by :( I do have some 10kVA EI cores that will be rewound to make a homemade pig tho :)
@inductivelycoupledplasma6207
@@herrlito-hv I understand in Germany (and most of the Europe) that most distribution trafos are large 3ph pad-mounts with around 1MVA of capacity (same in urban UK). In the US they do it strangely (3 single ph pigs)
@herrlito-hv
@herrlito-hv Год назад
@@inductivelycoupledplasma6207 yes you're right. Finding small distribution Transformers in Germany is not an easy task. 50KVA is the smallest i could find. It ways 560KG. I can't run this thing at full power even for a few seconds because of my Circuit breakers.
@herrlito-hv
@herrlito-hv Год назад
@@inductivelycoupledplasma6207 15KVA sounds good. Keep searching for it on ebay and one day you'll find one that is not too expensive. This worked for me.

Damn that looks fine! How did you power it? With 3phase ofc but what did you use as ballast? I've been running mine only with single phase and old welder as ballast. I just need to buy more welders to get every phase to power it up. Or have you any better idea for ballast? I have been thinking also powerful industrial heater fan system as ballast. But no idea would it work. Anyway great job there indeed :)
@herrlito-hv
@herrlito-hv Год назад
Thank you :) In this video in the beginning you can see details about the ballast: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oC4ZWYuPm7Q.html It is a 3 phase ballast made from ballasts of sodium vapor lamps. I would recommend using only induktive ballasts. Every ballast that produces heat only takes away the power you can draw from your breakers. Right now I am working on a 3 phase rectifier in order to be able to use all three phases. Then I have 28kv 1.35A at 300HZ. Where did you get your transformer ant what are the specs ? :)
@mcsaatana1614
@mcsaatana1614 Год назад
@@herrlito-hv did you mean by sodium vapor lamps and ballasts HPS ballasts, atleast looks like those. I have already 2pcs of 600W HPS ballasts, but how to connect them? In series? Or? And the heating of the ballasts isnt welcome, is there ballasts then which wont heat?
@mcsaatana1614
@mcsaatana1614 Год назад
I have pretty much same stats transformer, only older.. its from 78 i think. I have one short video uploaded from it from last summer. Runned with single phase and welder as ballast
@herrlito-hv
@herrlito-hv Год назад
@@mcsaatana1614 Yes I meant these HPS ballasts. As it is a 3 phase transformer you need 3 of those. Each in series between the power supply and one of the 3 windings of the transformer. They usually don't get hot. Maybe a bit warm after 30 minutes or so.
@mcsaatana1614
@mcsaatana1614 Год назад
@@herrlito-hv i have gotten mine that hot that it shut itself down. How big are your ballasts? And looks like you have more than 3.. the bests results so far i've got with the old arc welder.. just need 2 more of those.. but can you connect more than 1 for each phase? Like 2 ballasts for each? Does it make any profit?
@trenthighvoltage
@trenthighvoltage Год назад
that's some BEAUTIFUL arcs. did you use resonance caps (microwave caps)? If not, should give that a try. would need a lot of caps in series-parallel for some AGGRESSIVE arcs for sure. Try potassium nitrate, salt, baking soda etc. as well to stretch the arcs!
@herrlito-hv
@herrlito-hv Год назад
Thanks :) I didn't use resonance caps yet. But this would be much more fun. First I have to check if I have enough of them 😅 Using salt etc. is a good idea!
@trenthighvoltage
@trenthighvoltage Год назад
@@herrlito-hv yes should use a mix of resonance caps, and salts (baking soda gives you somewhat bigger arcs than salt in my experience, potassium nitrate gives you about the same length of arcs as salt and soda but a lot less bright). using higher voltage would definitely help stretch the arcs further.
@herrlito-hv
@herrlito-hv Год назад
@@trenthighvoltage I'll try it with normal salt at first. You're using it too in your videos right? Looks Awesome!!
