Probably the most understanding villain the whole story, he got screwd over by the main guy and he knew his time was coming, even though he robbed him. He knew the kid was smarter than him in the long run.
When I first saw this movie, I was Laurence's character side from the side. I now work at a casino (not a dealer) and I'm more on his side now more than ever.
@@user-co1gi7yd2r He didnt take the money from the teacher cuz he WANTED his revenge against that teacher plus he spent all those years trying to catch him, he wasnt gonna let him go for money when he already the money he wanted also from the students. Ben didnt really get anything out of the deal except to live another day. If you had a grudge against someone and needed money but you got the money... well now you just need to satisfy your grudge against the guy. If he got the extra money from the teacher then your grudge isnt satisfied and he gets away scotfree .
God the writing of this movie is phenomenal. The first time I watched it, the very end was so beautifully created. It was the cherry on the sundae that seals the deal. Makes me wish I could fulfill the challenge when you have to stand out during an interview
Ben should've called his bluff.Is he really willing to commit a double homicide for that money in the bag? Also he probably has to kill the taxi driver. I would have called his bluff. Anyone can be a badass and beat people up, but it takes true psychopathy to commit a triple homicide for some plastic.
However, what is more important? The money for school, or the personal dignity that you may feel when you know you’ve got what it takes to attain an education in one of the best medical schools... for free? In other words, money that burns for a moment, or skills that endure for life?

The part about them chillin in the casino in flashy outfits *very* obviously signaling to each-other & strutting around like the own the place is utterly laughable. Those eyes in the sky would have security on their asses within 15 min 😂

Gamecoast Gramling I interpreted the ending where he says he took account to “variable change” as in the meanwhile when the three of them were gambling, he had preemptively asked the other team members and his friends to go make some money - he knew the security (Cole and the C&O) would be too busy trying to catch the three of them. That’s why they are wearing the same clothes when they walk into the casino in the scene right after they leave. Because they had just come from there. Right?
Who the fuck cares what he did? Who cares what any of these people did? Guess what? All of them in Hollywood have done the same or worse, and you don’t know about it. So we don’t have to live on some high horse about people we don’t know and won’t ever hang out with.

This movie made my cry .. I could have been somebody in my life but .. life is not for everyone.. Now everyday I wake up at 4am I sweep the streets and collect the litter from pavements and fecies from homeless people. In 20 years from now I'll have saved enough money to go on holidays in El Salvador ...

@@mr.n476 All casinos in Vegas work together for the good of the group, like a cartel. No one undercuts each other, and they most certainly share notes when it comes to security matter. Had the MIT squad been spotted at one place, their faces would have been broadcast to all venues on the strip. In real life, they would have hopped around different spots (Vegas, AC, Reno,etc) to avoid frequenting a city too often.

So this is supposed to be a good ending? The professor first of all was very appealing I am really fond of him and in addition his overall life as a graduate was pretty similarly related to Ben's. So that means Ben will probably end up in jail too

What was the point of the movie if it wasn't so he would walk away with the money? Never seen the movie but having a ending with him getting robbed wasn't satisfying it just pissed me off..reminds me of the movie focus with will smith same shit happened smh
GetPaidWithKyle The entire point of him counting cards was to get into Harvard Medical School. He was originally told he needed “life experience” and to “jump off the page”, otherwise he wouldn’t get the scholarship and would need to pay for the whole thing. He knew he wouldn’t get accepted as-is, so he needed a way to make money, which is when he was approached by the time for his impressive math skills, which they assumed would make him good at counting cards. Ultimately, the money obtained was supposed to pay for Medical School. However, despite him not getting to keep the money, it was the “life experience” that he gained which finally allowed him to get the scholarship he wanted, eliminating any purpose for the money, and fulfilling his original goal of the movie. Quite an appropriate ending and development of a character.
Really and truly I would of called his bluff he aint finna shoot 2 ppl and commit a double homicide I would of kept my money able just walked off on him and seen would he shoot which most likely he wouldn't
SPOILER - I felt like the teacher was in the right and the student screwed over the group and the teacher. It ends with the kid walking away.... I was so mad about this, I think the teacher deserved that money because of that kid losing 200k, shit I would be pissed too, the ending for me was garbage. Who the hell bites the hand that feeds you then walk away with a good ending....
Don't worry, the movie was entertaining BS (per the OG members). Plenty of articles/interviews debunking it. "Ben" was Asian, from a well-to-do family, whose father is still alive. He even appeared in the movie as a dealer ("Jeffrey")...

I mean if he stuck to the gameplan like the professor told him too they would still be playing and winning money......but no he got to confident betting the money away and didnn't leave the table with the money he already had as he was Signaled too.....
