The BRAVESTAR 21.5 oz selvedge denim/jeans is the only jeans I will wear next year for a minimalist approach to heritage style. I'll have another pair or two for variety but for blue indigo style, this is the one!
I love Japanese jeans and selvedge for that matter but I wanted it in a good and affordable range. I found this one from Brave Star and it is awesome! Watch my video for the first impression.
I am not sponsored by Brave Star but love what the company is all about. Check them out and their products here:

Had my 25oz Sumo 3’s for about 2 years and they have recently begun to soften up. One thing that nobody talks about with heavy denim is that it’s harder to discreetly scratch your balls.

Great being a passenger in your Bronco seeing your beautiful country. It’s winter here in rainy old England, so I’m very envious. 😁

Chris, I've followed your Brave Star journey for a year or so now. If I'm honest, I think you simply haven't worn your 21.5s enough. 2 years in they don't look much different than new? I get that your paradise-like weather must hold back the heritage threads, but plain and simple you gotta put in the work. I got another pair of Brave Star 21.5 this fall...I've worn them 7 days a week for 2 months now. They have lots of whiskers, creases, honeycombs already. On the inside the cotton has softened to the degree that with the fabric thickness, it feels almost like jogging pants. No soaks...I want that starch in there as long as possible to really set those creases. In fact I'm looking for ways to make them even more starchy! Anyway, keep on living the dream in paradise.

Hey Aaron! It’s been awhile brother and great to hear from you. You know I always listen to your sage advice and you are absolutely right. I really need some wearing time on these things to get to where I want in short time. I guess it’s something I can complain about living in paradise (if I have something to complain about haha). Happy 2023 brother and be well!!

Good to hear that the Brave Stars are breaking in. I have a pair of the 19oz Brave Star jeans that are still cardboard stiff after an initial soak and ~25 days of wear. I love them and the fit is very good for me. Keep up the great heritage style. It works for you!

Awesome ride Chris! I’ve been watching you for about 2 years now when I broke into the world of Red Wings. I have been wearing Brave Stars for a little over a year now. Starting with the 13.5. Moving up to the 15.5, then the 16.5, and last month I finally got a pair of 21.5 Gauntlets. I’m love them all. I feel like I lucked out with Brave Stars because the slim straights fit me perfectly. Do more leadership stuff. Pass your experiences on. We’re living in a time where GOOD Leadership is sorely needed, and not enough people have it. Keep doing what your doing brother, you have a great thing going!

Thank you brother for your continued support! It’s good to hear from you and I am absolutely humbled. I’m proud of this channel and what we have done so far. I will continue to share my experiences and thoughts intertwined with the Heritage lifestyle. Congratulations on finding BS as your go-to brand. I have a lot of great things to say about them for sure. Mahalo!

My first piece of heritage clothing was actually from your area. I visited Haleiwa in 2001 and had a shirt made by the same little shop that made Greg Noll his famous jail house trunks. I had read about it in his book and was stoked to get the shirt.

Great video. I subbed because I think I have similar interests. I drive a Bronco, wear Iron Rangers and Moc Toe boots, and want to get some Selvege jeans. I just wish I lived in Hawaii!

Awesome video!! I think for a very first pair or selvedge you should go for a lighter weight selvedge. Over 20oz is intense for a first timer. I went for a 14.75oz from Brave Star and its perfect

Great video! Do you wash your BraveStar jeans in cold water? By hand, or in washing machine? You mentioned about the waistline expanding, which I also wondered about. I tend to worry about clothing shrinking. 🤷‍♂
@StylishGreaseMonkey
@StylishGreaseMonkey Год назад
Hi Kevin and thanks. Only in cold water and either by hand or gentle cycle and hang dry. There’s a difference between sanforized and unsanforized as well so I have to figure that one out too. Maybe I should make another vid 😂

Great video as always. I wear a waist size 34 in my Levi’s 501, according to the size chart on Brave Stars website I should be a size 32, do you think that is correct?
@StylishGreaseMonkey
@StylishGreaseMonkey 2 месяца назад
Yes, and no... I initially ordered a size 32 but it took forever to stretch so I ordered a size 33 which is better. When I ordered my 25 oz BS, I went for size 34 and figure I'll just tighten up my belt when it finally stretch out. I know I replied to one of your questions already so if I'm repeating myself I'm sorry. If you have the patience to wait and wear them daily, it will form to you and be comfortable. Size 32 it is... I gave up on mine.

Nice review sir! Very informative. I'm about to buy the same jeans that you have. Regular Taper 21.5oz, but just one question. I noticed we have the same jeans size I also used to wear size 34. So do you recommend that I size down and buy the size 33 on BS? Tia!
@StylishGreaseMonkey
@StylishGreaseMonkey 9 месяцев назад
Thanks! I purchased a size 34 on BS anticipating that I would have to just wear a belt once it loosens. I do this because I have no patience for the break in period and the stretch. The recommendation is a size lower because this particular selvedge do stretch out to about 1 to 2 inches at the waist with repeated use and wash. Good luck and have fun! BS is a great brand and inexpensive to boot.

Hi Chris, I really like your videos, very informative. I recently bought my first pair of 21.5oz bravestar mayhem, they took along time to arrive in ireland. one question, how do you cuff such a heavy denim? it seems a bit bulky but does that "thin up" over time.
@StylishGreaseMonkey
@StylishGreaseMonkey Год назад
Aloha Vince! Thanks a ton and you serve as my motivation brother. Congratulations on the BS purchase. Sorry it took so long to get the goods to you from LA. I think you’ll like it! They do soften up in time. The initial wear and cuffing is definitely a pain. I cuff it before putting it on and just guess how much to make it perfect. I’ve also tried to do it when I’ve already put it on and before my boots but this later got me all sweaty haha! Have fun with it!

Hey Chris great video! The Bronco looks awesome! The jeans look like they are at the perfect stage. Where are you originally from?
@StylishGreaseMonkey
@StylishGreaseMonkey Год назад
Hey thanks! I am so sorry to not being able to recall your first name. I suck I know but I would definitely like to correct that now. I was born in Vallejo CA but grew up everywhere. I lived overseas in the Philippines for years as a kid (dad was stationed there). This question has always been an interesting one for me to answer. Oh and I joined the military from Honolulu since my father was also stationed here at the time haha!

Hey Chris it’s Howie, we followed each other on social media. But I have dumped all of it only keeping RU-vid. I am NYPD Retired and into all the heritage brands and cars. I am born and raised in NY and I have been to Hawaii Oahu and Maui, it’s an amazing place! Paradise on earth! We have a lot in common. Thanks for the great content.
