Damnit Ivan!! j/k, you'll get the next one. That was a big sounder of hogs. I probably would have missed too thinking about all the pork chops and tacos I would be eating... HA
31gbrock hey, it does happen. I have at least 4 misses and lost hogs on vid after this. then just the other night 4 ran in front of the truck with no shot, then 7 at the fence crossing. I let one fly at 228 yards, sighted for 200 and missed clean. 10 minutes later 2 more hogs same spot, missed clean again. then an hour later at 300 plus yards in the field, I shot and hit, wind pushed the bullet and also hog on the move. smacked him but he crossed fence and lost hog. I've never missed or lost as many as I have in the last 2 years. I need to get back to the basics and leave the AR home.
I had a 2fer in Cedar Creek Texas about a year ago. Didn't even know it until I went to retrieve what I shot. Better luck next time Ivan. Don't give up.
I see where he was trying to line them up. Great tactic, great restraint in waiting for the right shot. To bad it didn't hit home. It happens. Great video.
John Leach yeah he did, that pack is down to less than half now. I found out the neighbor traps them, shoots them and dumps them. that sucks for us. good for Texas
OH MAN!! I watched that over and over and I watched it in 1/4 speed (.25 speed as youtube has it) and it had to have hit them!... great videos! and good luck next time amigos!!
no you dont need to go dig the bullet up :) i trust you! it just must be the angle of the camera ... how far was the camera from the gun? but ya dont waste your time looking for the bullet... keep having fun killin hogs for those of us that have to live vicariously through you guys :) I could bring my flying machine down to help chase them to you if that sounds like fun?
great videos man, would be nice if you did one where you show your techniques on how to clean a wild hog from start to finish,it would help us beginners
Great video and sorry to hear that you didn't get your two for one special on this hunt Ivan, but you still put some humor into your production and that's worth a smile and entertainment. Keep hunting. Later on you can upgrade your scope if its not getting the results you need. I would like to see that 2 for 1 from either or both of you. Had both of you been there it would have been a massacre for sure.
So close, pretty awesome though. Same thing happened to me on my first coyote hunt, except I didn't even get a shot off. There was a pack of 'em, 10-12, I have never since seen that many together. My scope was at 14x and they were only about 20 yards away. I should have seen their ticks at that power. Lesson learned I hunt with a red dot now.
TheKrazy injun shoot, I had 4 hogs run in front of my truck, then 7 at the fence crossing, then 2 more, then 1 at 300 yards in the field. the only one I hit was the 300 one in the field. but he ran off. and YES. still better than being home.
I feel his pig ran off straight away from the stand. Did Ivan say they ran off to his right? But, my view was limited to the camera lens. Pig hunting is a blast. Good Luck!
It happens to the best of us hunters brother. Don't get down on yourself. I'm sure you'll plenty more opportunities for more hogs. Good video of yourself hunting though. Hey, we all get greedy every now and then lol. We live and learn. Still a good hunt cause you learned something from it. Keep up the good work y'all!
archersfriend Ya but the hit sounds like a gun shot so its really not worth the power loss with subs. But a suppressor with supersonic loads is greatness.
@Dnahoghunter I actually understand how hard the hunt is to film by yourself. And props to your camera work Ivan you had it lined up perfect. I video taped a friend of mine miss a 10 point MONSTER buck this year at 20 yards because he didn't aim low! He was hurt BAD by it he tells me everyday "I wish I would have just had my bow" I'd LOVE to see you guys take a hog with a bow just fyi, but keep up the good work guys kill it and grill it
it is hard, we only harvest about 1 in every 10 hogs we see. hunting for the camera is way different than just hunting. I have 1 old bow vid. I plan to get more in when the heat hits. just hard because the places I hunt are small and they can jump fence
Nice video man. Gotta sight in for the type of land you're hunting in. Pretty thick in there so sight in close range and hand out dirt naps son! Get em!!!
Never mind Ivan, better luck next time dude. You tried the two animal with one shot trick, that's pretty risky buddy. Yes it can be done & I admit it looks amazing but be cautious buddy, a pig with a bullet up it's razz gets pretty pissed off . Darrak looks like a good teacher & I'm sure he would have tracked a wounded pig down before it had ran too far. That pig was lucky this time dude, I don't think he will be so lucky next time.
Chris, first of all excellent feedback yo, and I hate that im seeing this ish four years later...lol but hey 🤷🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️😉🤫🤣😭😭😭😭😭 and yeah D is a God send in many ways! Thx for watchin
dnahoghunter Hi DNA. I went hog hunting for my first time this Saturday that just passed. Unfortunately, we didn't get any sightings though we did hear them. It had rained a few days prior and the field we were in which was basically a forest of trees was flooded. We had to wade through about 9-10" of water to get to the blind. The feeder was about 80 yards away but because of the height of the water, any feed knocked loose (was tied up to trees) would basically sink at least 6-8" in water. My question is, when a field or area is basically a swamp, does that affect the activity of the hogs? Some of the guys that I went with felt I was over-thinking it but my instincts and logic were telling me it would curtail their activity especially as the hogs would have to wade or damn near have to SWIM to get to the feeder depending on their height. Is it useless to hunt when the conditions are so wet with standing water? The guy is willing to let us go another time for free since we didn't get any hogs but I want to make sure he doesn't try to pressure us to go when field conditions are bad. If I'm going to be out on some money, I at least want conditions to be decent.
long time watcher first time commenting! But Jeez what wasted time, You know your tree stand to bait distance! So why is the gun sighted in for 100 yards and don't blame the equipment it is just a tool of which your in charge of. The risk of wounding your prey and or the loss of the animal is too great. Otherwise it was the video was good.
Marcus460 ummm he just got the rifle and is/was learning it. we dont all have the time and $ to go to the range everyday and practice. mine are sighted for 100 and I use them closer a lot. but I know where it shoots. just saying....
Did Ivan find that after the hunt? and would you really trust a pawn shop special without thoroughly going over the rifle before a hunt. Take it from experience I've been there in my youth, lost great six pointer from lubing the firing pin and cold temperature that caused a misfire (pin never touched the primer)
you can tell he shot low because the multi color one broke its leg running off (the one that squeiled) you can tell it broke because that leg never touched the ground after he shot
+Srib They are definitely leaner than a farm pig. I hear people say that's it's very gamey tasting and smelly. I have yet to experience that. If the meat is handled as little as possible, kept clean, cooled down as soon as possible, the meat is awesome.P.S. I do shy away from big, older, boar hogs. I have processed and eaten younger boar hogs, no complaints.
yes they are wild, not a lot of them get size to them. the ones in the video are average size for our area. we have a mix of razorback & Russian. these pigs are usually lean untill they top 200 pounds. +dnahoghunter is this land you and ivan hunt on public or private? great video guys. that short of a distance should call for a smaller caliber rifle; .223-.243 sight in at 75 yards. lot less destruction of the meat.
He OVERSHOT above the front legs near the spine area, what ever happened to a heart lung shot, a open metal sight could have hit that pig, and he was using a scope... back to the rifle range
I didnt WANT a heart or lung shot #MyChoice... However we DID in fact Find out that the cheap Bushnell I had at the time had been bad due to the recoil..Thx for the Comment
