Another really interesting video. Thanks. From time to time I've wondered about using OVMS in my MG5 LR, but thought that it'd probably be well beyond my limited tech ability. So I would indeed be really interested if you were generous enough to share an OVMS video, particularly about the basics and use of the app. I could probably manage something along the lines of OVMS for Dummies! Thanks again.

Thank you for watching! I'll certainly be adding the OVMS video to the planning. What else would you like to see as well?

Hi KC, I'd really like to see a vlog of the OVMS you use and any hints or tips on using it with the MG ZS mk 1. Cheers 👍🏻

I'll get that video going! I'm a bit worried I'll break my setup as I'm going to have to reset the box, so wish me luck!

Please can you speak about the LFP battery which are apparently only within the 51kWh battery of the 2022 model. Not within the long range. The chemistry is better and far more cycles with charging to 100%. Thank you for your videos.

Hi are you in Yeovil? I’m also getting an MG ZS EV mark2, are you very much happy with your EV?
@KCTalksEV

Yes I'm very happy with the Mk1 ZS EV BTW I have also done an initial impressions and range test video on the Mk2 ZS EV here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tkP8E6NPOvA.html

Thanks for your very informative videos. I hope to get my new MG Zs long range ev in September. Do you think as I am a first time ev owner that you could advise me of the best charging apps please. Best wishes for the Motor show.

Thanks, great video. Currently waiting like many others for my LR ZS. 40k and 8% isn't too bad but could be better like kia and hyundai.

Thank you for watching! I expected a bit less to be honest but given the warranty is validated for 70% at 70,000 miles, unless cells start to fail (touch wood!) It's looking very good at the moment. Still will do what I need it to, as stated in the video. You're right with Hyundai/Kia models, although the older models (e.g the 27kWh Soul) seem to have quite a bit of degredation. Looking at Bjørn Nyland's video after ~65k miles and 7 years it's on over 40%.

@@KCTalksEV modern EV's those designed after 2018 with the exception of the 60kwh leaf have better battery chemistry and better battery management systems (liquid cooling/heating) and generally tend to have less degradation however it will be interesting to see if the ultra-new LFP or lifepo4 batteries manufacturers are using in their standard range models last even longer with very minimal degradation !
@rodneyoneill75
@rodneyoneill75 2 года назад
Is battery degradation linear. Will it continue at its current rate?
@KCTalksEV
@KCTalksEV 2 года назад
Great Question! It shouldn't be. What tends to happen is a sudden drop at the start of its life, and then it tailing off as the battery ages. Then towards the end of its working life, it then suddenly decreases again. www.researchgate.net/figure/General-capacity-degradation-behavior-of-lithium-ion-batteries-15_fig3_303890624 - There is a good diagram demonstrating the above. I'm not an expert on the topic (I am a chemist by trade though!), however, what I also expect is that as some capacity is hidden to the user (what I call usable capacity), some batteries can mask this effect at the start better than others. For example, some of the Hyundai-Kia models will report 100% SOH at 55-99,000 miles but in reality I would be very surprised that is true. MG/SAIC likely don't and whether that is a good thing is up to you.

Please can you explain how to balance battery?
@KCTalksEV
@KCTalksEV Год назад
Plug in car, leave to charge to 100%, but then leave on the charger for a few hours. Can take up to around 12 hours for a proper balance if it has rarely done that, but 2-4 hours is about right. Also, try and run the battery down to a low battery %, does also help the process.

@@KCTalksEV Thankyou very much. I have learnt so much about my car from watching your videos. Sorry one more question, how do I know if my car is In regenerative mode?
@KCTalksEV
@KCTalksEV Год назад
No problem, happy to help! You'll know if you look at the screen in the dials, in the middle there should be a number (1,2,3). 3 is the highest regeneration, 1 is the lowest. You can switch this up and down by using the KERS button in the centre console of the car (by the P RND shifter). Thank you for watching!
