Hey Teddy, I just left Cleveland. Went there with my family. We're from Germany on vacation in the US. Only because of your Q & A, where you answered "Why Cleveland", I had the idea to visit on our trip. It's been really nice. The old industrial charme meeting modern architecture. Old steel, new glass - just loved it. The Brewdog was also very nice. 😊 Thanks for the indirect tip and in general the great content here on RU-vid. Cheers! Michael
Ive worn my Speedmaster on a leather strap with a suit on a number of occasions and it's never looked or felt out of place. Amazingly versatile watch. Love the content Teddy.
The wrist shot of the Explorer is one of the best I have ever seen. It really conveys how the watch actually wears. Most wrist shots make the 36 look way bigger than it actually is.
I noticed that too. In terms of photography, people need to back up a bit and use a longer lens. On the other hand, the case-exaggerating effects of the closer and wider angle does convey the experience of having your face close to the watch as one would when looking at your own watch. I believe it was Annie Liebovitz who liked to walk the line of a lens that's too short; whether or not the viewer understood the effects of forshortening, a brain will automatically understand that you're closer to that person's face. Same with these wrist shots. But I always think huge cases look terrible. Unless you're a linebacker, I think 38mm should be your upper ceiling. You'll end up looking like a kid wearing his dad's jacket.
I think the VC Overseas is the most versatile (vs the Chopard or Patek) due to the inclusion of the rubber AND leather straps. Especially when you pick a more subdued dial color.
This video is another reason why Teddy is the best watch RU-vidr. Provides real information and presents many different options based upon price points.
Excellent recommendations Teddy! Once again, Jon came through with a terrific gift for my son. I am purchasing the new Mido TV watch in blue next week. This is my fourth watch purchased from your team. I am certain he will wear it for many years to come. Please extend my appreciation to Jon and your team for their outstanding work.
I personally would have chosen either the Aqua Terra.or most likely the Constellation over the Speedmaster, automatic, date complication and water resistance whilst still being versatile for any situation puts them ahead for me in the Omega family
I hear ya about versatility being different for each person. For me, my go to daily wear is the white dial Christopher Ward Sealander. 39mm case, 150m water resistance. Looks good on its steel bracelet, or any other strap material and colour. I've worn it on many adventures from camping, to hiking, to swimming, and it doesn't look out of place dressed up on date night. Great list, Teddy! Love the updated Longines Conquest. Stunning watch!
I would say that the Zenith Chronomaster is also a wearable chronograph. Small size, thin and colours that go very well with a navy or grey suit. But furthermore a very nice collection of versatile watches.
haha, I think you're right, thought of that one, too. I've got a vintage Chronomaster from yr ~2000, that I find is very dressy and chique and would probably fit into most outfits with that silver guilloché dial. However, talking about versatility, I can see this one loose ground to others just because it's maybe a bit too classy for rather casual outfits.
Omega works best for me as a Tech person working on/around electronics because of the super high magnetic resistance and the power reserve. making them very low maintenance watches as well as super accurate. (best accuracy next to quartz)
@@brads1545 I wonder if the difference is day to day style. Teddy is generally preppy and white collar. The explorer is better than most of these watches if your day to day wear is tactical gear and camping. Sure the explorer dresses up ok, but it's kinda of a stretch in a suit. Sure the Tissot Gentleman dresses down okay, but it's kind of a stretch working on your motorcycle.
@@DavidRonI have never seen anyone in tactical gear or camping wearing a Rolex explorer for those situations. That’s G-Shock or Garmin territory. ANY Rolex will go well with a suit. This is a daily for someone that works in an office.
I think the Junghans Max Bill is very versatile - especially with the black dial. Water resistance could be better (50 m), but the fact that the case is barely there helps it blend into any environment. Works with a tux - and works with a tee.
Good video! I think having a diver Bezel is one of the most useful feature of a watch, even for most desk divers -- from cooking, to parking, to poormans gmt. Therefore the Sub has my nod as one of the most versatile watch. I am just surprised that watch brands haven't put a time bezel on non-divers yet!
I usually wear the Murph in every occasion. But I just got a Speedmaster Reduced two tone with 18k rose gold bezel, crown and pushers Man.. the thing just pops, its a looker! You can definitely wear it in more formal occasions
I just bought my first "expensive" watch. The Mido multifort tv big date grey on the bracelet. I am looking for the orange band once available. BEAUTIFUL WATCH. I bought it from teddy and will be back. I mainly wear my Casio watches throughout the week to protect my bracelets, no hassle I personally enjoy the quarts movements. Excuse the grammar.
The new longines conquest is a beauty. They did a great job updating the watch. Looks way for classy for any occasion. I have the hydroconquest with the ceramic bezel and is more sporty but also could be considered as the best do it all watch.
Really great video, however I’ve found a watch with everything for less than £280!. Swiss brand, automatic, sapphire crystal, AR coating, 100m WR, and the build is just awesome. Roamed Primeline Rotapower 703-660… I cannot understand why so little is mentioned about this brand. Keep up the good work
Im sold on the Explorer. I’ve spent many years now wanting a Datejust and it’s been an interesting learning experience going from looking at watches to finally owning one. I love my Black Bay 36 but there’s a few details that I think the Explorer really nails. Plus it saves me money!
Nice vid - I’m a one watch guy. At 12.35 - Just picked up the new 2023 Tudor BB in Champagne (I got the 41). The new series 34, 36, 39, 41 on Jubilee are amazing, curvy case every bit as nice as a DJ or Explorer. Pick your size or color, perfect GADA.
I think you’re missing a key Rolex, the OP, it’s extremely versatile and has the choice of many colours, not only that, its most recent iteration has the easy link easy link system, I’d argue it has more history than the Explorer too!
True on the Rolex Oyster perpetual… I have it and after I bought it, I sold all my fashion watches. 😅 Have been using it for years… chose it over the date just, because there are so many females at that time that have the date just. I want something low-key but classy, elegant and versatile and the OP is just that. 😊
The Mark XX is really really versatile. Given the easx-change system, you can easily switch between a nato strap, leather strap, and the steel bracelet. It works on all three and depending on the occasion you can dress it down or up. Nato during summer with khaki shorts looks amazing. Brown leather strap matching brown dress shoes and suit to dress it up at a wedding/festive event or on the steel bracelet for the office… it just works in all of those settings and changing the strap literally just takes one minute.
Love this video, that's always been my philosophy when it comes to watches. I don't want to worry about matching watches to clothes, I want to be able to pick up a watch and it not look out of place with (almost) anything I wear. That being said, I have only two watches which are the Hamilton Khaki Auto 38mm and the Certina Action Diver 38mm, both with black dials. Super versatile watches.
- Baltic Aquascaphe Blue Gilt - Mido Multifort M - Rado HyperChrome Automatic - Citizen Automatic NK0000 - Montblanc 1858 Automatic Date 0 Oxygen The 8000 41mm - Raymond Weil Freelancer 42
My choices for versatile watches : - Hamilton Khaki Field auto - New Longines Conquest - Longines Spirit (and Zulu) - Tudor Ranger - GS springdrive (black or white) - Omega AT - Rolex OP 124300
My watch was purchased 2 years ago from amzwatch and, to this day, it still looks and runs as well as it did the day it arrived. That movement has never missed a beat despite never having been serviced. I can't complain about that.
For me, a versatile watch has to have some thing that will let you track time. Unless, of course, it’s a chronograph rotating bezels are perfect. If you’re making a pizza or timing your coffee brew in the morning the Alpinist is perfect, not only can you use it as a compass (Boy Scout compass trick) you can set the north marker to your minute hand and time anything! it’s a beautiful dress/dive/tool watch 200 m of water resistance. The rotating bezel is an absolute plus! Please don’t call the cyclops a cyclops:) it’s really more of a dewdrop. It looks like a drop of rain. I have a rather large watch collection. I wear my Seiko Alpinist all the time. For me it is the ultimate versatile everything watch. …in my humble opinion:) Teddy, thanks for the great content. Please keep up the good work. I love your videos!
Great list Teddy, you did quickly mention this watch, but the Sinn 556 range, especially the colours with the applied indices, 556IB, for example would be on my list.
Great video with some amazing recommendations!! I purchased a Zodiac Jetomatic a few years ago and it has overtaken my other watches to become a daily favourite which works as a sport watch, a casual watch, you can wear it with a suit, or with shorts on a beach. It's my all rounder. In fact I was so impressed with the Jetomatic that I purchased a Super Sea Wolf 68 as my Diver which I swap back and forth with my blue dial Citizen Automatic Promaster 200M Diver. I think that the Zodiac name when you consider the types of watches they produce is very much overlooked.
Depends - if you work in an office and do the odd formal event, being able to dive hundreds of meters deep with your watch isn’t as important as a classy bezel rather than a rotating one.
I use an Orient RA-AR0003L as an everyday watch since it wears pretty nicely for most purposes, whether casual or official. I do use a G-shock DW-9052 I got as a gift as a beater, but the sapphire on the Orient really gives me peace of mind. My Orient has more or less kept time within 30s over an entire month, which is ~1s every day averaged.
I really like the looks of the 39mm OP, I wish Tudor would pick up the production of that model. Maybe have a little selection of different dial options, both in colors and layout.
What strap do you wear it with? The leather one it came with was too stiff for me so I'm currently wearing it on a white rubber strap (beautiful) but looking for some more options
@@jorjoperalta I just wear it with the leather strap, I agree it is very stiff and was hoping it would loosen over time but haven’t noticed much of a difference. Granted I don’t wear it super often
I agree with many comments here, I can’t understand how you can consider a Speedmaster here. It has basically no water resistance It’s not a tough watch It can’t really match modern professional watches and not really the best looking watch either. In the Omega family your better off with a Seamaster 300 It’s tough, can go under water and heck the Prince of Wales uses it as his everyday watch
Very insightful and well curated. I love the Hamilton Murph, but the bright reflection of the Cristal put me off a bit, but thanks to a newer video of yours I dug deeper into Hanhart and am now on the waitlist for the Hanhart Pioneer Preventor HD12 with the black dial. Thank you so much for being my gateway to many amazing watches, Tissot, Seiko and Grand Seiko/Glashütte Original (my first grails) are now my goals on the first steps into watches again after so many years and loosing my Festina in a fire. Keep it going and lots of love for the amazing content from Germany.
The Gentleman needs a 38mm version. As is the new Conquest. Just putting it out there because I know Tissot and Longines listens. On a related side note, the Murph and the Spirit is definitely on my radar.
Casio Oceanus T200s. Pros: -300-400€ -dimensions that suit most wrist sizes -case and dial finishing matches watches even above triple of it's price -100m water resist -good bracelet -very thin, slides nicely under a cuff Cons: -jdm only product, can be somewhat hard to source. -caseback feels cheap compared to rest of the watch
As an aside, many of us US Air Force crew members during Vietnam, used to wear the Airman during the function of our duties. I still wear one today, albeit not the one that I had back then.
If Longines makes a smaller version of the new Conquest in the 36-38mm range I am happy and set for life. The silver sunray version is absolutely beautiful! I love watches learning about and appreciating watches, and there are plenty of more expensive watches I love, but you don't really need to own every watch you love.
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on amzwatch 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
Wearing the Khaki Murph right now and it's just phenomenal, you can just wear it anywhere for any occasion, it just disappears while being such a gorgeous watch.
Teddy,…this is a fantastic video and really sums up what I enjoy about the world of watches. Three notes. First, there is something for everyone here. Beautiful watches providing great VALUE at every price point. Second, and with my first point in mind, I am over the whole Rolex ‘thing’. I have hard earned money I am willing to spend and I am an educated consumer. I resent the nonsense surrounding Rolex. Happy to spend my money on Cartier, Grans Seiko, Tissot, etc. Third,…I think the Cartier Santos de Cartier is hard to beat. It is the embodiment of FORM and FUNCTION. The square case, the roman numerals, the dial, the amazing bracelet (+ quick switch and adjustment features), water resistance, anti-magnetic, rubber strap. This watch has everything and the ‘je ne sais quoi’ that other watches/brands just don’t offer. All the best.
Great list! However, I was surprised to not see anything from Nomos. I think the Club sport 37mm is a viable option, but also the Ahoi line. I own the Ahoi 567 and think it works in just about any occasion (as is also marketed by the brand) - classic Tangente design but with improved water resistance and crown guards. So the Ahoi is definitely more sporty, but the size and thickness means it also works very well with buttoned up attire 🙂
Great video Teddy. Hard subject to tackle. All your picks were good range of styles and pricing. I don't see it possible to have ONE watch. Three maybe. 😀
I just got into watches again. I was planning on starting a nice collection, but I ended up just getting 1 very expensive watch, and now I’m not buying another one for a while. I didn’t think that expensive watch would be available for several years but I got the opportunity to get it in 6 weeks and jumped on it. I’ll be a 1 watch man for a while now
It's good to reward ourselves sometimes . While I'm not one to spend on high-end watch (I spend too much money on travel, lol), I can appreciate your gorgeous and timeless watch. I love how it's a symbol of all your hard work. And i choose NKUWAN every time honestly
Nice list outside of the end models. Lost me at the Breitling, big green dial in 13 mm thick. Might be good looking but it doesn’t strike me as versatile. Longines Conquest, Tudor BB and Rolex DJ seemed to me more in the sweet spot.
My only watch it the Seiko SRPD51 (the dive variant with blue dial/bezel) and can’t find anywhere it’s not reasonable to wear it for. Perhaps it felt a bit out of place at the opera but otherwise it’ll be only watch for many years to come.
Why not the Oyster Perpetual Rolex. Not the ones with the cartoons, but the regular ones are very wearable with anything. 70 hour power reserve and much cheaper.
Damn Longines is killing it lately. I was already obsessed with the spirit Zulu. But those new Conquests models in different colors are gorgeous too. Kind of like the omega aqua shades, or a cheaper Datejust / OP alternative
I personally prefer the Breitling B15 Duograph with the blue dial to the B09 pistachio. Same design on the dial, but 42 in diameter. The blue dial is really beautiful. You have to wear it and admire the color changing as you move your wrist. The silver case and arabic numerals stand out due to the blue dial. Finally, the pricing is great for a rattrapante chrono.
Great stuff Teddy Rolex explorer - Yes! But my white faced OP 39 is even more versatile I think because it flies under the radar and can be worn in public without too much anxiety. Agree about the speedy, but I think Junghans chronoscope, may be even more versatile, especially now available with sapphire glass.
I bought a watch from mamacoo lightly used for my last milestone birthday. Don't wear it as much as it deserves, but not afraid to, either. It's stunning . Good taste, Sir.
I can not argue with 99% of your choices. The Datejust is a lot of things but to me, it will never be an everyday watch, especially in gold. Great video as always. Thanks for all of your work.
Amazing composition of great watches, discussion of detail, encompassing a massive fiscal envelope, and great delivery! Really a great topic presented well. Thanks and congratulations!
Does anyone else find the Tissot Gentleman a little underwhelming in person? It was on my radar specifically because of how versatile it is on paper: steel, 100 meter ws, can be dressed up or down, etc., but when I finally went to an AD and saw one, I felt like I wasn't seeing the same watch shown in all the videos. It felt disproportionate. It might just be me. I eventually went with the Formex Essence 39, and I know I made the right choice for my tastes. Great video, Teddy!
yes, I second the gentleman. I shopped and shopped and shopped. I ended up with the green gentleman-for the price/movement/versatility...couldn't be beat.
I own an overseas dual timer but I wouldn't call it very versatile because it is extremely loud and flashy on the wrist. When I wear it, people notice because of it's finish. I just got a horage supersede and I find it to be extremely subtle because of the finishing and the diver bezel. It's still an integrated bracelet watch but I wear it almost every day. Before I got this piece, I was wearing a blancpain leman dual timer and my zenith captain elite dual timer for most days (yes I love gmt and dual time complications). Both of those watches are extremely versatile and understated. I also have the new version of the alpinist with the compass insert, I brought a bracelet for it as well which I like more than the strap that came with it. Great list as always Teddy.
Fantastic list Teddy! However because the recommendations are so strong, my personal dilemma is “date versus no date” in regards to a watch that offers a full package “versatility”. What is your opinion on date versus no date when it comes to a versatile watch? Thanks again for producing such professional and thought provoking content.
Teddy you inadvertently gave me a “omfg no he’s not going to put the navitimer on this list” when you said “ one of the most versatile chronos on the market” In reference to Breitling
Thanks for the video, I have several of the options that you mentioned that validate my choices. I'm subscribed because I like your reasoning and helping me along this incredible journey.
Great Video. Longines need to do what Omega did with their Date window on the Aqua Terra. Put a silver edge around he date window. The last watch the Nautilus PP is far far too cluttered . One watch that seems to never ever be reviewed and to be Honest is one that i think is extremely overpriced is the Hublot. No one wants to review it which is good because I think it is revolting . A sneaky one that is a sleeper to me is the Panerai.
I really enjoyed this video! As always it was interesting in seeing your picks. I must admit that you surprised me by picking the Murph and the Speedmaster, but I can see your points of consideration for selecting both. I don’t usually rewatch a Watch video but this one is an exception. Well done!🥃
I’m a simple man and am happy with 1 watch. I have gotten a lot of time with my Sinn 104 with a white dial. Saw it for the first time about 4 or so years ago and just had to have it. If I can make 1 suggestion about your video format, would it be possible for your team to include chapters or whatever RU-vid calls them in your videos? That way if I want to scrub through the video I can see when you start talking about a new watch without having to stop and examine the video?
