SO many people who call into this pod would benefit from learning about relationship OCD. I have relationship OCD and benefitted so much from a combination of therapy and exposure response prevention. The girlfriend who cries when her partner doesn’t go to sleep at the same time as her is definitely giving me some ROCD vibes.

There are so many new terms I’m learning that I never heard in any of my college psychology classes. CPTSD, ROCD… I am curious about this ROCD. I’m wondering if I had a little bit of that in my last relationship. For the first two years, my boyfriend would eat dinner with me when he got off work, no matter how late I always waited for him I cooked him dinner, we ate together. That was our thing, and it made me feel secure and normal. Within the last two years. He started eating at work or telling me he wasn’t hungry when he got home after I had cooked for him, I started to resent the fact that he would eat dinner before he got home, and that he stopped making an effort to spend that time together. I I didn’t go into a room and start crying but inside I kind of wise, and I think it lead to one of the reasons our relationship all apart.

I don't agree with the advice to get a new therapist (at least, not without doing some other things first). As a person who's been to therapy for years, I've learned a lot about it, both from experience and reading the research. If you have a complaint about your therapy, any therapist worth their salt is supposed to be able to take this feedback well without guilt-tripping you and work with you on your concerns. Building a therapeutic relationship takes a long time, and you shouldn't throw that away because after several years, you have one bump in the road. Moshe and Natasha usually give sensible advice, but the carelessness in this take surprised me. Get a new therapist without even giving this one a chance to right the wrong? To the person who wrote in: the answer is to tell your therapist exactly what you told Moshe and Natasha in your letter. I have had to do this once before, and the therapist surprised me with how well she took my critique. Things got better from there. If you do the same and things do not improve, or if your therapist is in any way offended, THEN it's time for a new therapist. I know confrontation can be hard, but this can also be good practice for you, because giving feedback like this is something every functional adult should be able to do. Good luck, and I'm sorry your friends of 16 years did that to you. That's really rough.

I agree that they should give the current therapist a chance. They’ve gotten comfortable but with all the changes the person is going through , they should be aware that they are struggling. It’s also possible that the therapist gave the client action items in the past and the client wasn’t ready or willing to take action so the therapist has the outdated view that they aren’t ready or willing so has stopped challenging . I don’t think “carelessness” is fair though, it’s a different opinion. The endless honeymoon podcast isn’t professional therapy , they do their best based on their experiences and what they see in their life. Just like Moshe said about his moms therapist, he may be drawing from that experience and giving advice based on that. They aren’t trained or certified to be aware and careful of any biases. To the letter author, I agree with the above commenter to bring it up w your current therapist and if they react badly or nothing changes, try someone new. Talkspace.com/honeymoon 😂

I agree, and it may be that the therapist is not pushing major changes because they are trying to allow the caller some time and space to grieve their lost relationships. Just like any relationship, it's better to at least attempt to communicate your needs before giving up on it.

I am in current desperate need of a therapist. But I don’t even know where to begin other than calling my insurance company, which I already did, and getting a list of the therapists in my area. How do you find a good one? I’m just looking at names on a list. My boyfriend of 4 years went to work one morning last month, and just never came home. There was no fight, there was no discussion he just left me. And we just signed a lease together in this apartment that I cannot afford on my own. He quit his job and pretty much ghosted me. The few times that I have tried to contact him he was gaslighting me. I am blindsided and devastated. I thought it might get easier but the pain has not gone away. That is why I think I definitely need a therapist, because I have never been this sad, lost, despondent in my life.

The first writer: maybe tell your friend your friendship isn't passing the Bechtel Test and it would be a good practice to hang out and not bring up former relationships. If the friend can't do that, what's the point of the friendship?
