"The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.
Please note that, as with all the films I make, this is not actually intended to be an extensive guide to the area. This is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I often share some of my own personal stories.
If you are new to my channel, I strongly recommend reading the description under the “about” tab, which will provide a clearer understanding of what to expect in my films: / solitaryrambler

Hi Patrick, Thank you again for another wonderful walk, the scenery was breath taking down the valley, it looked very muddy in places and uneven to walk, so pleased you managed to stay on your feet. thank you again regards Dave & Jean.

Morning Dave and Jean, glad you enjoyed this walk. I loved the scenery in this one too, especially with all those reservoirs. It was very uneven in places, so you just have to take a bit more care there. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

The shot of the reservoir in the distance between the valley was so picturesque. You really do know how to get some great shots of the scenery. I think for a bank holiday you did quite well avoiding crowds. I recall your walk around Marsden, it was a lovely place. I don't think those steps were steep enough though 😁 Some great reservoirs but always some tragedy has occurred. It's amazing in the pennines just how many have been killed in flooding. The Heather and ferns up there were a beautiful colour too. Glad your hat kept on your head on the hillside. Interesting trigg point too. Thank you as always Patrick. Really enjoyable

The scenery was fab wasn't it. There were quite a few walkers around if I recall, but I try as much as possible not to film other people. I'm so glad I didn't need to go down those steps! 😁 Yes the reservoirs often hold some tragic history and there are lots in the Pennines. I'm glad I got here whilst the heather was still purple, looked great. I sure needed to strap my hat on at the top of Pule Hill! 😀 Thanks as always Kelly for watching and commenting 👍

Another beautiful hike, Patrick. I remember your recent Wesserden hike as I want to do a variation on it. It is nice that you don't have to hike to Peaks all the time to get beautiful views. I've really enjoyed it. It's nice that hills are marked with stone placements to show a top where there is no trig. It is sad to hear about the Black Flood. I wonder how many people were never found and their resting place is just in the valley. Thank you so much for sharing, Patrick.
@solitaryrambler
@solitaryrambler 9 месяцев назад
Thanks Chris, there's lots to see in the Wessendey Valley, and I still missed a few things here. Those Marsden Moor posts are all over the place around there, btu it was interesting to find one acting as a trig point on Pule Hill. I've come across several reservoirs of late with sad histories. I'm sure lots of people were never accounted for in the valley. Thanks for watching Chris and for all your great comments. All the best 👍

I never tire of re-visiting my childhood playground. We would walk up from Diggle and play all over these moors, including swimming from the sandy beach at Blackmoss. I think you missed the waterfall you didn't see on your Wessenden walk, but it was probably nothing more than a trickle in August. Thanks for a lovely film Patrick.

This is a real great moorland walk Patrick. That way marking post stone with the inscription looks to be fairly old, I would say. The flagged path looks good to walk on rather than crossing boggy ground - that was a real good job done there! The reservoirs that supply both the canal and the public water supply seemed to be pretty well topped up. That Butterley Spillway looks very impressive, indeed. Pule Hill has some fantastic views from it, then there are those fantastic rock formations around that area. Most excellent walk, Patrick, and many thanks for this video production.
@solitaryrambler

Cheers Ffranc. There are lots of moorland paths, especially where the Pennine Way goes, that are flagged now, so definitely a good job. The spillway looks great doesn't it and the views from Pule Hill were amazing. Glad you enjoyed it Ffranc, thanks as always for watching and commenting 👍

Once again we have walked similar places from Bruncliff and Butterley Reservoirs (good shots there). Black Moss we had lunch break nearn Swellands Reservoir on Wessendale Valley Walk. All lovely areas to walk.I liked the routes you followed. Its good to introduce this area in repertoire of locations. Liked the combination of synths with piano arpeggios.

This was a fantastic reservoir tour Patrick. I watched end to end before my walk out in the Beacons today. I liked the names of some of them - Black Moss Reservoir. I wonder what that's about? Do we get black moss? A rad windy out but thrilling and beautiful none the less. Did you see anyone? It felt like you never. Well, good going - not sure it would be the same up there right now. Wet wet out. All the best. Mark
@solitaryrambler
@solitaryrambler 9 месяцев назад
Thanks Mark, there sure were a load of reservoirs on this route. Black Moss is puzzling isn't it. I wonder if it originates from the peat bogs, but I must admit I've never seen moss that is actually black 😁 I did see quite a few people on this walk from what I recall, but I try my best not to film others when I'm out. It'll be a wet one out there now indeed, rain, rain and more rain! 😂 Have a great walk out on the Beacons Mark, well I know you will. All the best 👍

@@solitaryrambler Yeah, loads of reservoirs and odd names Patrick. I think it might have a peat link. Ha ha, the people have been edited out. Would be cool if we could do that in life.
