I think the 21mm is a great focal length. I had a 20mm for my Nikon SLR. I had a 21mm for my Contax G1 rangefinder. I have a 21mm for my Leica M6 and M10 rangefinders. Based on the images and the reviews I have seen, the TT Artisan 21mm f/1.5 looks like a great lens for a reasonable price.

Thanks for the comment! Honestly, I thought I would buy the lens and not like it and go for the Leica 21mm, but after using it, I love it - for the price, the quality is unmatched, I am sure the Leica 21 will be a better perfromer overall but the images I have taken with this lens I am very happy with! - I also have the 50mm f/1.4 from TTArtisan and thats amazing for the price too!

Since I bought a Nikkor 20mm in the ‘80s it is my all time favourite ‘Urban Street Shooter’ lens. I use a Fujinon 14mm f/2.8 on a Fujifilm X-Pro 3.

A really great lens , sharp and well made . The only down side is you cant use screw on filters on it . The front lens element domes out and would touch the filter glass . Nice video .

In the box your are provided with a round lens hood which you can actually mount filters too, I was pointed out to this by a channel viewer, so there is a way, but it does make the lens much bigger than it's sleek profil with the square hood etc. I think it is a wonderful lens and it hardly ever comes off my Leica M-E - build quality is outstanding for the price!

I have the 21mm Elmarit asph f2.8 and it pretty much stays on the camera. I started by using the EVF to frame but got so used to its field of view that I only use the EVF occasionally now. To the point I don’t often bother to use the rangefinder, I just use the depth of field scale because from f5.6 upwards pretty much everything is in focus.

Hi Nick, the more I use the 21 in the street the more I love the loook and feel of this lens. I LOVE my 50mm, but this is such a joy to use that 21 might become the go to and some point. I would love to try out the Leica 21's to see how they compare one day.

@@SebastianOakley I have a Zeiss planar 50/2 and Voigtlander Nokton 35/1.4 both great lenses but I hardly use them now. If I’m in a “Bresson” mood I might use the 50 but the 21 is great for street work, especially close in. If you’re ever near Sussex give me a shout and you can try mine.

Thanks for the offer Nick, I love the 21 the more I use it, certainly prefer the 21 and 50 focal lengths as my two lenses of choice

TTArtisan now have metal 28mm and 21mm optical viewfinders for only US$40.00!

they do - its the one in the video and its very good - just no frame lines in the vieewfinder which is a shame

I was thinking about buynig the viefinder. My mamiya 7ii 43mm is missing its factory viefinder so maybe this one would be able replace it? Someone who has some idea pls reply. Thx

I mean it could work, but it has no franelines which is a pain to start with, but you get used to it

I was not aware that TT Artisans made such a lens. Frankly, I am really surprised anyone can make a 21mm f1.5 seems almost impossible. I just got an Avenon 21mm f2.8 and really like it.

Thanks for the comment, the 21 is a wonderful lens and the added bonus of being f/1.5 will come in handy for sure - I love it for street

@@SebastianOakley Have you tested the TT Artisans 28mm f5.6 base on the Leica Summaron design? Looks really neat, I think it is kind of foolish it was only released in M mount.
@SebastianOakley
@SebastianOakley Год назад
I haven't tried the TTArtisan version, but I have used the Leica Summaron it's based one and that is fantastic... Keep an eye out on the channel for my thoughts on that lens soon!

@@SebastianOakley I actually just ordered one direct from China. I have always liked that specific lens design and figured the price was the best I would ever get.

Hi, thanks for the video. Could you help me? I’ve tried to find a good explanation about to lens calibration but I have some questions. When I use the paper focus provide by TTArtisan what is the aperture that I have to use to calibrate it using that specs (2 meters and 30º )? I’m using a Leica M9. Thank you
@SebastianOakley
@SebastianOakley Год назад
I'll be honest I just used f/4 and tweaked the lens until I thought it was sharp. I then tested it on a static object until I was happy with the results.

Is that external viewfinder just like a SLR camera’s frame(outside of the frame is black) Or no frame edge ?
@SebastianOakley
@SebastianOakley Год назад
It is literanlly just a viewfinder that shows you what the lens might see. BUT there is no framelines at all so it is a bity of guess work every now and then, but once you get the hang of it it becomes second nature - if you want framelines I would say you wouldhave to opt for some leica ones or Voitlander - both very expensive
