Great test! I agree with the noise on the 16 Alderbaran. Great to hear it is improve significantly on the 22. This may trig a buy from me. You make the best tests. I think your problem with the line sticking to the rod may resolve with a rod with spiral guides. It will also help turning your wrist 90 degree when overhand casting. This will not help with sidearm cast. The spiral guides will help for all type of casts, I think. I will do a test on this soon, normal versus spiral guides on two identical blank.

Finding the perfect conditions for testing these reels are sometimes very difficult and frustrating but thanks for doing that. I know you don’t like using braid but it helps in these conditions actually even better braid performs when wet .

I’ve been wanting a bfs reel for throwing Ned rigs and small swimbaits. Would love to have my first shimano reel as well. Hopefully I get picked🤞🏼

so.. in your opinion.. what's the difference between the '16 n '22?... I always wanted to get the '16 model for a long time.. but didn't know the difference on the BFS and the BFS XG

What I noticed with 22 Alde Bfs and also with Antares A70 and 21 Antares DC was you need to pay extra attention to set the spool tension. The o-rings make the spool really hard to move sideways. When you think you have set the tension right it most likely isn’t. You need pinch the spool pretty hard and really make sure it won’t move sideways and have any clicking noise sideways, to kind of make the o-rings slip a little bit. So a regular thumb movement wasn’t enough to move the spool sideways. To me this made a huge difference in casting performance with all reels that have this redesigned silent tune. I had the same issue with casting 22 Alde Bfs when the spool tension wasn’t right. Had my brake set to like 4.5-5 and still occasionally got overruns. When I really set the spool tension right, I could go down with the braking to 3.5-4 and casting distance was significantly improved and those overruns were gone. At that point I really noticed this is a big upgrade over 16 Aldebaran Bfs

Does it make a noise when turning the handle fast...like a knock or thumping noise...when I take out the spool it does not make that thumping noise when i turn the handle...just wanted to know if your 2016 aldebaran does the same.

Can you explain the oring to me? I'm not real happy with my reel for this reason. I want to make sure I take out the correct oring. My curado bfs is so much better in my opinion. Actually I purc purchased a second curado because I had problems with the other BFS.

Thoughts on lighter lures for ald 16 with the 16ald15r vs new ald22? I have the ald16 with avail spool and have been debating on picking up the 22 version. I too have 2 ald16 one with stock and avail... I love them so much. lol is it worth getting the 22?

Smoother and quieter but not better performance what so ever when it comes to realistic BFS fishing so I will save my money.

Why would you cast and retrieve with the same hand? That's like cutting steak with your right hand and then putting the knife down and swapping the fork to your right hand. Wasted movement!

Take care of yourself, don't throw your spinning rod under power lines! People sometimes die in this situation! On spinning rods, it’s not just that they draw a picture with lightning! 13:22 To prevent wet fishing line from touching the blank, turn the spinning rings down.
