Thank you for doing this video. I started out with a red Chrony, a true POS. Your Caldwell seems to be working a heckuva lot better than my Chrony ever did. After a few years and much gnashing of teeth messing with that garbage, I bought a magnetospeed maybe 7-8 years ago. Played with a couple labradars, and was not impressed. I got a garmin last year when they announced it. No regrets so far. I hope your channel grows and helps you swing the cost of the garmin, among other things! Subscribed.

Thank you for doing this test, I now realize that I would never waste my money on the 22 arc that I was going to buy. 22-250 blows this thing away, as well as the 220 swift, and 223 WSSM

They are faster yes....But supposedly at 300 yards the bullet design from the .22 ARC has a more efficient design. It has a much much higher ballistic coefficient that will enable it to retain speed, and energy much further down range with less wind drift. Theoretically. If you haven't seen the difference in the bullet design I recommend checking that out. I plan to do some testing at extended ranges whenever I can get a place to do that kind of test to video it... Supposedly at 300 yards the efficiency of the high ballistic coefficient bullet from the .22 ARC it will match the .22-250's performance and exceed it beyond 300. I want to test this because that is the supposed caveat to the .22 ARC's performance. And I have a .22-250 Howa 24 inch bull barrel to run it against... Hopefully I can do that in the future soon.

That first one is stupid consistent for factory ammo. They are all really good. And I hear ya on the garmin it is a superior chrono but man that price is hard to swallow. I ended up going with the magneto sporter realistically they all do the same thing the garmin is just so easy to set up. I got impatient waiting on the barrel for my ar so I just ordered one for my bolt gun should have it this week. Hornady uses a 24” test barrel so they should have faster numbers compared to your 20”. Don’t quote me tho I could be wrong on this specific ammo. So happy you’re putting out these videos. You probably should bite the bullet and get that 5$ adapter if you can get the sd’s that way if you find a good consistent lot # on a box you could set one aside for hunting or long range stuff. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
@Steelrunner
@Steelrunner 29 дней назад
Definitely! It seems like the amount of fps loss from a 24" to a 20" is negligible. On the 62 grain 100 fps loss from what the box say's and still having it at 3200 fps is still extremely well. Especially the design of these high b.c. bullets. (Which the G1 is .395 on the 62 Grain Vmatch) I believe it's gonna hold velocity and energy very well at extended ranges. Would like to see how it compares to the .22-250 at 300 yards and see if Hornady's claim is true.

@@wildnorthadventures I happen to have a Howa .22-250... only thing is it is a 24 inch barrel. But oh well you're right that would be an awesome video! Gonna have to find a 300 yard spot to do that one day.

I got 6mm ARC Savage bolt action with 22" barrel and it allows higher pressure. My handloads with 58gr vmax was doing almost 3600fps! (3594 to be exact). Very accurate too! This is with converted Hornady brass from 6.5 Grendel. Now that Starline released its own 6 ARC brass, no need to convert anymore.

man, 22 arc slings those bullets fast. nice rifle, too. i want a 22 arc but need to sell a few rifles to make it happen. all i'll say is ain't nothin wrong with the caldwell. paul harrell uses one and he's a subject matter expert if i've ever seen one. thanks for the video and god bless.

I don't know if that's enough hotter to vindicate buying a 22ARC or not. It does beat out the 223/5.56 but not buy as much as I hopped it would. Is the 88grain the heaviest bullet you can shoot with the 22ARC? Nice video! BTW I wouldn't worry about dumping a bunch of money into stuff. I believe you're doing fine, just have fun and enjoy. The only thing left is putting in the time.
@Steelrunner
@Steelrunner 28 дней назад
Thanks you or saying that i appreciate it.. I plan to do other calibers as well, just been on the journey of testing this new cartridge. And yea I see what you're saying and it does make sense. But I believe that the design of the bullet itself is the major factor with the .22 ARC while still being able to achieve those speeds... while the speed is comparable with other .22 caliber projectiles the high b.c. which on the 62 grain is a G1 of .395... that will enable it to theoretically retain speed, and energy further down range with less wind drift. I can't speak to longer distances just yet but I'm hoping to run it next to the .22-250 at 300 yards in a future video whenever I can find a suitable range to do that. But Hornady says it will match or even out perform the .22-250 @ 300 yards and outperform it beyond.. I really want to put that to the test. And yes the 88 grain is the heaviest in the factory ammo offerings but I think I've heard them talking about a 90 grain that can be handloaded.

Seems like spicy 5.56x45 to me… like some hand loads out of a 24” barrel can probably come real close to doing the same?
@Steelrunner
@Steelrunner 25 дней назад
Speed wise yes. But the design of this long bullet has a much much higher ballistic coefficient which will allow it to buck the wind much better, while also retaining more speed and energy further down range... I plan to do some long range tests with the 22 ARC cartridge as soon as I can find a suitable range to film it.
@meanman6992

@@SteelrunnerI meant in reference to projectile weight. If using lead core projectiles, I’d expect similar BC, if using monolithic copper, would possibly be better due to being able to load and chamber longer projectiles sure. Which I’m guessing is where it actually beats 5.56x45, in similar weight and construction projectiles doesn’t seem like a big difference. (Meaning the ones both can fire)

wonder what kind of barrel life we should expect with this
@Steelrunner
@Steelrunner 28 дней назад
Wondered that myself I've seen some forums say 2,500 and some say over 4,000... One thing hornady has said that it operates at normal pressures around 52,000 psi so theoretically should be comparable with .223 or .22-250... maybe right in the middle of those if I was to take a good guesstimate.

That's for the video, but why is the 22 arc better than the 556
@Steelrunner
@Steelrunner 6 дней назад
The bullet design is the biggest factor. It has comparable speeds but the ballistic coefficient is much much higher. Basically he bullet is long and sleek kind of like the 6.5 creedmoor's design it's the same concept that it will retain speed and energy further down range and also buck the wind more efficiently than other standard .22 caliber rounds...it is a very long bullet design much more than .223, 22-250 or 220 swift... so basically it comes down to how effectively the bullet cuts through the wind.... One day I'm gonna video and run the .22 ARC against the .22-250 at extended ranges and see how they compare. Gotta find a range for that first.

@richardrisner3635 14 часов назад
You sure about that? That’s not what I was seeing years ago when it came out but nonetheless, 22 nosler is a dead caliber with no support anyway. I haven’t even seen brass for it since 2020. And to go a bit further you can’t puss the long heavy bullits with the nosler either.

Well sir- yes. Afew years ago I got bitten by the AR bug. Selling my old faithful bolt guns.To replace my 22-250 I thought I'd try a cmmg 24" upper in 22nosler. Very pleased- 53gr varmegeddon-3750fps ,62gr-3400 ,70grNosler Trophy-3150. I have helped several buddies convert spare carbines with just a bbl replacement & a new mag. AWESOME ON COYOTES OUT TO 500YDS. WE are happy campers !
