WEST CHESTER, Ohio (WKRC) - For almost 20 years the Rosenow family has been changing the lives of orphans around the world.
Scott and Kathy have four biological children and 18 adopted children from six different countries. Nineteen of them still live at home. The first adoption took place in 1998 in Bolivia with Nathan when he was 8-months-old. After another child was adopted in China there was an opportunity to save another life in Bolivia.
When we were in Bolivia doing Colin's adoption we decided this problem is so huge we have to do more than just adopt, that's when we started the Shepherds Crook,” said Kathy Rosenow.
Shepherd’s Crook Orphan Ministry was officially founded in 2002 and since then its helped place 350 orphaned children with families. Three of the Rosenow’s biological children have moved out and one remains at home with the 18 adopted brothers and sisters. All with a chance of a better life than they had before coming into the Rosenow home.
"We see where they come from and what they turn into,” said Kathy Rosenow. “I mean look around the room, the bond they have with each other, they're all brothers and sisters, there's no question about that. They take care of each other, they protect each other, they encourage each other.”
In addition to a full house of children, the Rosenow’s have four dogs. One of them was just adopted a week ago, his name is Godfrey. Godfrey became “Facebook Famous” after the Oxford Police Department found him on the streets and posted a picture on Facebook in hopes of finding his owners. That didn’t happen and Godfrey went to a shelter. Thanks to the social media post, Kathy saw Godfrey.
"I don't know, we kind of decided we had to be his home, his family. If even if he didn't have long left, we wanted him to spend whatever time he had left with a family and be loved. There's no shortage of that here,” said Scott Rosenow.
And that is certainly a fact.
